Open since 1985, this delightful, unpretentious restaurant in Forest Hill, London, is renowned for its stunning and innovative modern Indian cuisine. Babur's stylish, earthy interior features exposed brick walls, natural wooden furniture and beautiful handmade Bengali artworks. The intimate atmosphere and sensational staff have made Babur a favourite dining destination with Forest Hill locals, and the food is worth making a trip across town for. We highly recommend the spicy sardine fish cake stuffed with caramelised figs; sandalwood ostrich infused with fenugreek; and black cod in spices and mustard oil with mustard mash. The wine list, designed by Peter McCombie, is also superb and features 16 wines by the glass, and 34 bottles for under £20.

Very fine meal, but Babur is a very fine restaurant these days (we first went there over 30 years ago). The food is thoughtful and carefully cooked and well presented. The waiting staff are excellent. It is probably the best restaurant in the area, and there is some competition. A wonderful evening out.

This was probably my fifth trip to Babur. It's a fantastic gem of a restaurant. Well worth a visit! All food and cocktails are fantastic. Can't wait for an excuse to go again!

Our group of three enjoyed the food which was delicious, but we felt as if we were being rushed throughout our time there and the waiter broke into our conversation and stood waiting at our table before we were ready to order. We were not automatically presented with a wine list prior to ordering a meal - only a drinks menu. Overall, probably won't be returning any time soon.

Booked at short notice on a weekday evening, and had a drive to get there. It was worth it however - professional though relaxed service, finely executed dishes, and a lovely sense of peace and civilisation as all the other diners were clearly enjoying their experience too. Thank you Babur. We will not leave it so long before our next visit.

Nicely decorated restaurant. Food was tasty and not by any means the normal high street curry. Good wine list although overpriced.

I have enjoyed the Babur since the 1980s. Over the years it has become more sophisticated in its presentation. Why would I think nowadays of going to central London to eat an Indian meal when I can eat just as well (no,better ) at the Babur?

This is not your average curry place. The service was impeccable from the moment you walked in to the moment you left. The host was lovely and seated us immediately even though they didn't get the reservation from Opentable. Luckily I had the confirmation email but there was really no need to show them as they took me at my word. We demurred the tasting menu as we thought we would be too full but we had the scallops to start with suggested wine pairings with our mains, the sea bream and the duck, with pilau rice, sag aloo and crispy potatoes for our sides. We also had the deliciously fluffy garlic naan bread. They also had great cocktails. An overall wonderful experience.

Excellent food, as always at Babur. Took family this time, and they were very impressed. Best Indian main course he has ever eaten - said my dad (it was the chicken supreme).

Seriously good food - the best Indian cuisine I've ever had. A great tasting menu with a really good wine pairing, and all excellent value for money given just how good the food was. Service was also relaxed, friendly and very knowledgeable.

It's a decent Indian food in that area but nothing exceptional and the service is rather poor.
And dont bother about collecting open table points as restaurant would by default forget to mention that you honoured the reservation.

Always good food at the Babur. The service, though good, was a little too intrusive. Our table was in a very noisy part of the restaurant, and it was difficult to hear each other for most of the evening.

My (now) husband and I had our first date at Babur in 2004 and return each year to remember that night; the ambience is perfect, the staff are attentive, focused and nothing is too much trouble. The food is just sublime and one of the main reasons why this great restaurant is as popular as it is; their creativity and use of ingredients sets it apart from any other Indian restaurant you might have visited - yes, the standards are there, but on the next level; every bite is something to savour and all the more reason to make sure that you experience this local gem, hidden away in leafy Honor Oak Park, as soon as you can.

Lots of great things on the menu, it's difficult to pick! Monkfish main was outstanding, as was the quails legs starter - wine pairing with each made it even more delicious.

I have been going to Babur for years and it never disappoints. This time we tried the vegetarian tasting menu with wines and it was absolutely delicious. The food here simply puts other Indian restaurants in the shade. My only minor complaint is that service can be a bit slow but as soon as I mentioned this to the head waiter, he ensured that things started moving much faster .

Babur is a firm favourite of ours! The food is always amazing, great service and the cocktails are to die for!
Unfortunately on this occasion there had been an issue in the kitchen and we were an hour later sitting down to eat but the staff were very apologetic and attentive!
