The service was a tad slow... they were really busy. Our main was forgotten and the arrived cold but they took it back and brought out a new plate without giving a hard time. Food is wonderful. Would definitely go back.
The “shrimp entree” was incredibly overpriced. 6 shrimp on top of a bowl of pita chips with yogurt. How is that an entree? Rest of the food was decent.
Amen our server was fantastic - gave great recommendations and was extremely attentive. Great music and food too!
The service was horrible. We dine at Balade quite often but this time we had the worst experience. I will give zero star for service.
First outdoor dining experience and it was wonderful!
The food was delicious and servers were trying their best to handle covid precautions and outdoor seating. It was a bit loud eating out on such a busy street with pedestrians walking by but overall would definitely recommend and would go back. May try to get a table closer to the street and not on the side walk.
I was having trouble hearing the tunes. Excellent tunes tho
Exceptional. As a Lebanese, I feel very PROUD to have a place like this in the city.
Came here for dinner a few days ago. The menu is extensive and everything we ordered was amazing. We had a few vegetarians in our party and the selection of mezzes was great for them as well. Not much of a dessert person, but even the Mouhallabieh was so delicious, I was scraping the bottom of the dish! Service was fast and attentive. They’ve put up plastic partitions between tables which is also much appreciated. Overall solid place!
Very good despite eating outside & the CO-VID regulations.
Food is extremely meh.
Zaatar fries were totally soggy.
Pita bread was tasteless cardboard. A middle eastern restaurant that cant bake or buy superb pita bread is like an Italian restaurant that cant make a good tomato sauce. Inexcusable.
The grilled vegetables that came with the main were an extremely dumb assortment. Who eats a whole grilled tomato. Gross. Who eats a grilled jalapeno? Inedible. The only thing edible were the onions, and they were barely even grilled.
Rice arrived luke warm instead of piping hot signifying general inattention to detail in their food preparation.
The big issue with this restaurant is that its completely overpriced for its very middling food.
The actual prices are 30% higher than reflected on Opentable and on the restaurant's own website. Restaurant staff explained that prices were raised due to Covid.
Excuse me but its not my problem that the restaurant lost money bc of Covid. Most people in America didnt get a 30% pay raise during Covid, so why it is assumed that I and other average New Yorkers can and should absorb their losses with higher prices? I find this mentality to be highly annoying and tone deaf.
$38 for 4 small, thin lamb chops is insane. That dish should cost $28. There should be 6 thick chops if they are going to charge $38.
Let this restaurant go bankrupt and close. Then a real restaurateur can buy/lease the space for pennies on the dollar and actually have money to spend on decent portion sizes or not be required to over charge by 30%.
Good food! place was a bit too cluttered for me. The wooden chairs are terrible. Every restaurant should prepare for rain so anyone sitting by the open area don’t get splashed. Dessert was great! Really liked the seasoned fries. Staff was somewhat attentive but I chalk it up to adjusting to outside dinning.
Because of COVID, we were sitting outside on the street/under the tent, but our table was at the edge of the tent and water kept falling onto our table from the tent.
Service was terrible and the food wasn’t the best either
The food was good, but overpriced for Mediterranean cuisine. A friend and I split the vegetarian sampler, the falafel was great, but the I didn’t care for the string beans (too oily) and the cheese was very salty. The service was slow, but that’s because there was only one guy running the place, due to the pandemic, I’m sure. Still, I enjoyed my brunch, and I’d go back for the falafel.
Noise level is due to outdoor dining.
Great food, but despite our reservation they made us wait 20 minutes for a table. The same amount of time as walk-ins. What’s the point of a reservation? Also, service was overwhelmed by the crowd and it took another 20 minutes to get a drink. There are like 25000 out of work service employees right now. Hire a couple of them!
Terrible service. Took 2 hours to get food. I had to walk inside to ask for more water even though I asked twice already at the table.
This was outside during the pandemic, so can’t talk about noise. But it’s quiet now!
Possibly the worst service ever. I made reservations and we get there and they have nothing for us, and asked if we would be okay sitting inside by the open window. They overbooked then selves for business but weren't able to manage all the customers. We didn't get some water for 40 minutes. Just terrible service all around, had an attitude and they were getting annoyed we asked to place an order. So disappointed
For COVID dining, they have a nice outdoor seating section set up in a fenced off parking space, but unfortunately, even with reservations, we were seated separately from that, on the actual sidewalk, in front of the closed bodega next door with constant pedestrians walking by who practically on top of us, and a pile of used mattresses a few feet away. It did not feel very safe or inviting, all things considered.
Very pleasant experience! Staff was friendly. Food was very good. I would consider this restaurant as the most authentic Lebanese one so far in NYC.
Loved this place! Delicious food, gracious staff and fun crowd. Putting on the faves list.
Used to be a much better value. Food was okay but unfortunately also downgraded (while prices upgraded)
Food was very good. Dinner for two was only about $90, including tip(4 small shared plates, 2 desserts and coffee). Service was lacking (we were often left for stretches of time without being checked on), although they were polite. Ashta (homemade Lebanese) I’ve cream was awesome. We would definitely come back.
Birthday/Baby Gender reveal
Incredible, authentic, and very affordable
We had to wait for like 15 mins in spite of getting there on time for our reservation. They had enough empty tables but our guess was that they didn't let us sit because those were 4 seater tables and we were just 2. Making us wait for a 2 seat table to clear up so that they can seat their "yet to come" 4 guest group doesn't seem fair. Now to food we ordered all vegetarian dishes (3 small plates, 1 pizza). Food in general was okay to taste. I felt it to be a little bland to taste. One positive thing is their falafel was tasty. Service was just okay and they seemed to rush everything even before we finish eating from our small plates. Overall just an okay place.
Balade is absolutely fantastic. A definite must if you’re looking for great Lebanese food in NYC.
Great Lebanese food for reasonable price
This place has gone downhill since last year. We ordered the mixed grill platter to share and received raw/tough chicken, soggy French Fries drenched in oil, greasy rice, and a mush tomato. I have never had greasy rice at a Lebanese restaurant, is this something new? The last time I was here that it was not greasy at all. So I quickly let the waiter know and he was happy to replace the mixed grill platter. I just asked him to toss the rice at this point, which he still charged me for. When he brought out the new mixed grill platter, I quickly noticed the French fries were drenched in oil once again. At this point, I decided to just eat what I can. As I asked for the check, the waiter asked how was the platter this time and I immediately let him know that the fries were bad yet again. He responded by saying yeah it’s something with our fryer... I mean I couldn’t believe he actually admitted it but hey they’ve been selling French fries drenched in oil all day. No longer will return here. I used to visit this place all the time.
Fantastic and delicious- my fourth visit and will be back again! All the food was flavorful and fresh, and everyone was happy! If you are looking for Mediterranean food - look no further! You will not be disappointed!
Balade is really a special restaurant. The food is really beautiful, and presented in a way that you keep wanting to order and try more things. The staff is completely available to care for guests and are very real and professional in their demeanor. Every time I have dined there I left with gratitude!
Great meal! The ingredients were fresh and everything was delicious. We had gone there for lunch about a month earlier and wanted an excuse to go back for dinner — they did not disappoint.
I wasn't impressed with this food-the tomatoes in the tabbouleh were "off"/acidic. It should've been evident to our server that we barely touched it and there was a problem but she was too busy literally having a 10 minute conversation with another patron.
The food was very good but they gave us the check while we were midway through eating our meal which I thought was very rude. They came back for the check twice and both times we were still eating so we didn't out our credit card in yet.
The food at Balade is superb. From their melt in your mouth pitas to everything I have ever ordered there. It is truly one of the best Mediterranean restaurants in the city in my opinion. A hidden gem.
Balade was just what we were looking for - an affordable Lebanese restaurant with incredible labne!
I'll start off with the positive -- the food at Balade was excellent. Everything was beautifully spiced, portions were sizeable, and the quality remained consistent across a variety of dishes at the table. This one trip to their restaurant was worth the delicious beef shawarma and hummus, plus a lovely selection of small plates. However, the service was absolutely atrocious. Took 15 minutes to get out mimosas, and the coffee we ordered never came (although thankfully they didn't bill us for it either). The second half of our party showed up a few minutes late and were never given menus, so we had to pass them back and forth while waiting for someone to come attend to us. The server was engrossed on the phone while we waited for someone to take our order, and made no effort to check in with us after the food runner brought out our food. And we were one of only two full tables at the restaurant! Will not be back.
