Balthazar is a lovely french Restaurant in the middle of London. The service was really good and waiters were very attentive. We ordered a set menu and the food was worth the money. Even though it was just a set meal, they still cooked a tasty meal. The restaurant is well decorated and has a romantic ambience. Overall, we had an excellent time dining at Balthazar. Highly Recommend!
Sadly I was quite disappointed with Balthazar London, having heard such great things about it. For me, it was nothing more than an overpriced Cote Brasserie, although not as good. It's a nice looking and atmospheric restaurant, but the food is very ordinary and overpriced for the offering. The wine list is also quite average. Really surprising for a French restaurant. I wouldn’t bother returning.
First experience was in New York in 2013. I loved the atmosphere, the attentive service and great food. This visit ensured that I returned last year when I learned that there was now a Balthazar in London. I booked using the Open table app which is so easy and successful. My experience in London, which I was able to share with friends, matched my New York experience..... and brought back lots of happy memories during a very uncertain time in the world. Thank you Balthazar!
Wonderful food done just right. Excellent service and a fantastic wine list. Looking forward to our next visit.
Service was very very slow it took a while to get the waiters attention but food was tasty
We had a lovely pre theatre supper celebrating a birthday. We love the restaurant.
Long standing client
I like the place and the food
my only complain is that the atmosphere was too loud. But the food was delicious and excellent service. Would return nevertheless.
Great food, great service.
Great as always - we have been coming regularly for years, and it never disappoints
We chose Balthazar for my husband’s birthday with our 8 yo daughter. We were made to feel really welcome and
The staff were polite and food tasty but it’s extremely noisy. My partner and I booked a table on two occasions and the last time, we were placed in between two groups of afternoon teas with ladies screeching over each other. Also, the half lobster I ordered was filled with claws and not very much meat.
Went for afternoon tea for my partners birthday. Great service from all staff. Afternoon tea had lots of different cakes - too much! Staff boxed up leftover cakes to take away.
Service efficient , waiters very friendly and food delicious.
Great food. But a bit overpriced for what you get. Excellent wine.
We both enjoyed our experience dining at Balthazar. The service was friendly and attentive and our meal was well paced.
The oysters for an entree was my husband’s choice and they were delicious. I had the onion soup which was a little difficult to eat because of the amount of melted cheese.
For mains the beef stroganoff was very flavoursome and tender and the ribeye on the bone was perfectly cooked.
A very pleasant dining experience.
It was amazing everything is perfect even the service was really nice
Restaurant OK but very poor compared to New York location. Nothing special and for the price, definitely not worth going there. There are several starred Michelin restaurants in London that do a far superior meal for less money and afterall, for the cost charged here, they should do a lot better. I can't recommend this restaurant but when you are in New York, go to that one.
Food is extortionately and simply doesn’t taste very good compared to other french restaurants in the area.
I tried the lamb rack - small portion, fatty lamb and the aubergine sauce and whatever they put into it was just... very nasty.
Snail starter was also very small and had no flavour to it.
Very nice food, professional and friendly service. Will go again.
Balthazar is a favourite amongst Covent Garden diners. It offers Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and every other meal in between as well as a separate bar. The French menu retains all the favourites you would expect to see - with a particular callout for the seafood - oysters, fish eg: Dover Sole Meunière. I would love to see a seasonal hot soufflé added to the menu (Grand Marnier, Peach?) Service is professional, organised, fast, attentive and not intrusive. This restaurant caters to both pre-theatre crowd as well as those long dinners. I never feel like I'm rushed through courses and out the door - compared to other local places in the area. Balthazar bustles with energy so the noise decibels can get a bit much at peak times. Ask for the booths is my tip. I do love Balthazar, definitely worth stopping by.
This is my second visit in the past month and the food is delicious, Bellini is perfectly mixed and the desserts are lovely. I look forward to a 3rd visit.
As a former New Yorker who regularly dined at Balthazar in Manhattan, and now living in France, I never miss a chance to have a meal at Balthazar London when I am there. The menu never fails to delight - it is tough to choose among the delicious options - and I love the energy in the space. The waitstaff are skilled, attentive at a good level, and efficient. It is an excellent choice for a group or for dining on one's own. I wholeheartedly recommend it!
Quality service - attentive without being overbearing. Portion size a bit small for lobster spaghetti. Staff create a really nice atmosphere.
Had a lovely lunch chosen from the set menu which was delicious and such great value too! Would definitely go there again and also loved the decor as well.
Very good food and excellent service but it was quite noisy
Food choices where excellent as well as the Blanc de blanc Champagne and Pouline Montrachet
The food was average, which was disappointing for Balthazar’s usual standards. The service was awful, my dish was removed without asking if I was finished,I was not finished. People were being rushed and getting the attention of staff was difficult at best.
Fabulous brunch here, the atmosphere is unbeatable & the food was excellent.
Very poor service. Food was nothing special and overpriced.
Good food and service. Quite expensive for what felt like a chain restaurant.
Food lovely, however service was very very slow
We love Balthazar, been many times in both London and New York but thought the service was a little slow and not as organised as usual, felt a bit inconsistent. We do love it but get back to that "silver service"!
Its a good place to visit for breakfast but dinner doesn't seem to be their forte. We ordered different items and everything seemed average.
Good food, ambiance and service.
My friend had a newborn and the staff was so accommodating and wonderful to us. Fantastic food and delightful ambience
One of my favourite places to eat in London
Lovely welcome & great service throughout particularly from our Italian waiter (who was off to Turin the next day) Food is good although portions of the duck pie quite small for the price.
Visited on a Sunday night, which can often be a little dicey for dining out, but the kitchen was on and the food was really excellent, including French oysters from the raw bar. A wine list with a wide choice of reasonably priced good wines that suited the menu. While lively, the noise level was manageable and reflected a friendly vibe to the spot that did not detract from the enjoyment of the meal. Also very well situated for pre- or post-theatre dining.
Food was very good. Table left very little room for conversation. Too close to diners on either side
The servers were not very friendly quite abrupt
