Generally nothing special
I eat at Balthazar London 2-3 times a year when I fly over. Always was a great experience. Last Wed
21 August was horrible and it was my birthday dinner. No more than 5 minutes passed from ordering
to receiving our main courses which can only be because they were not prepared fresh. My veal schnitzel was hard, old and stale and tasted like cardboard. After a few bites I called the manager over and he very
nicely took it back and I ordered a shrimp cocktail since my appetite was lost. I ordered one dessert and we shared it. My husband ordered the Salmon which also was not freshly prepared. To his credit the manager comped the dessert and of course didn't charge for the veal but since my birthday dinner was ruined I feel he should have comped the whole check. It was small since we
only drank water. I won't be going back next time I am in London.
To begin with, we requested a specific table in the restaurant and they were able to accommodate us. Probably doesn't sound like much, but in a large, busy restaurant that can be an important factor in one's overall eating experience. The food is consistently very good and a great value. Eating here is always enjoyable, no matter what you order and the menu, while somewhat limited, does offer something for anyone who is looking for a true French bistro experience.
Service friendly and efficient. However very disappointed with the food which was very average and INCREDIBLY salty. Food quality does not stand up to the steep prices. Will not be returning.
Exceptional as always
Lunch with friends from Canada
Absolutely fantastic! Food was superb! Was a return visit for me but first time for friends who would return! Great !
Excellent service. Excellent choice , excellent table . Loved it
Completely satisfied with this amazing place, I keep coming back for different occasions, celebrations, family, friend, colleagues, everybody loves it! Food quality is always so good, the friendliness and attentiveness of staff another hit for me, location, openness of the the space, the great decor and the vintage feels, good vibes all around. Will keep coming back. Happy customer ❤️
The staff were chatty and attentive despite being busy with a hectic Friday night service. The food was to die for, we had steak tartare, and then cassoulet and steak. The wine was great too. Would recommend this place to everyone!
Was an ok experience the starters of snails and pate de campaign was good however the main course was disappointing the veal schnitzel was tough and sauce was very bland the baked aubergine did not look very appealing
Lurvely lurvely lurvely
Balthazar is a fun and friendly place to go. The food’s great and the service is first class.
Great venue and service at the door and front desk is impeccable but, table service was not good even though there was a large number of staff everywhere. Things seemed a bit hectic. The food was okay but not at it's best.
I've eaten here before and it was great, hence the slightly higher rating and my determination to give it one more try however, on my last outing, the chef seemed to like salt a bit too much, from my octopus salad (previously faultless) , to the schnitzel.
Balthazar is busy and noisy. The music is loud enough to make you have to shout over it, but not loud enough to actually appreciate. The staff do pretty well considering the volume of people in and out, but it still feels a bit like a sausage factory, processing customers, rather than serving them. The food was fine - standard French brasserie fare, nothing spectacular. The choice of wine at the budget end is poor - the cheapest bottle I think was £36, and for that you got something that you’d consider overpriced if you paid a fiver for it in the supermarket. All in all, not my cup of tea. Although having said that, the fresh mint tea was one of the most enjoyable bits of the meal!
The octopus salad was normal, but the main course was perfect
After Theatre dinner. Perfect location and late hours with full menu to choose from. It was 10:30 to midnight and they never rushed us or dropped their attention on making it a great evening. The food was great: Burrata Cheese with Tomatoes and Pesto, escargot, lamb chops, Veal Schnitzel, was all delicious. I would make this a regular after theatre treat if I lived here.
Way too loud in there - could not hear a thing from friends around our table and we only were a party of 5.
The ambience is loud, disorderly and chaotic.
The food average and expensive for what it is.
Food was excellent. Initial waitress did not know menu items - could not answer questions; she had to send over a more experienced waitress. Also, initial waitress was so slow providing dessert menu that we decided to skip dessert
Service was impeccable , staff had a desire to serve and proud to ensure the standard of service was consistent. The mains and dessert were very tasty and flavourful, spoilt for choice on the menu selection. Slight downside, frites were lukewarm, tableware not setup, tables are very close together might be too cosy for some.
Beautiful restaurant serving delicious french cuisine. We would have liked to be seated elsewhere as we were by a pillar near the entrance and waiters constantly wizzing by us on both sides. But the food and service more than made up for it.
Not a very good experience starters good my sister and I had the Burgers for main course, the burgers were cold and when we cut into them they were raw. The manager came to see us removed the burgers and had them cooked again he also did not charge us but it spoiled the night.
Lovely service, it never fails
A favourite in London - great food and lovely wine and always fabulous!
The almond waffles are perfect but the eggs florentine are not filling. Still recommend for brunch
Great ambience, lively yet intimate. Service impeccable, food very good and served promptly. Ideal for a pre-theatre supper or special occasion. It was my birthday and I felt very well looked after.
Great breakfast, staff very polite and attentive
Definitely recommending to others
Very salty food (all of it) and previously good service marred by a couple of big mistakes
The place for catching up with friends. Slick, fun and busy.
We were recommended French Onion Soup in the restaurant and honestly, neither the soup or the portion or infact the serving bowl came to the expectation of a classic FOS. Otherwise the mussels, wine and service was excellent. Hope the comments are taken positively.
Great restaurant - really nice food, relaxed but special vibe at reasonable prices. Service was superb.
Food quality, freshness and taste, just divine. The service was exceptional, the waiters were polite, well dressed and attentive. OUr booking was only suppose to last 2hours but we’ve stayed 3 hrs. I would come here again in a heart beat
Excellent food really friendly staff have been coming here for years never been dissatisfied
Unusually slow service. Have been there several times and never had this issue
Will go back
Rides our server was great and had excellent recommendations!
The waiter who served our table was excellent and prompt
The service is not as good as it used to be, but still miles ahead comparing to other places in London. Great ambience and interior, good food and nice smooth tunes in the background rather than blasting from the sound system. Great for client meetings, special occasions or just a Sunday brunch with friends.
We keep returning to Balthazar for breakfast! It is the perfect cosmopolitan place to eat, with a wide range of breakfast options. It is easy to forget you are in the centre of Covent Garden - with the Parisienne decor - and the eclectic and international clientele. Service is always good and the delicious food comes quickly. Favourites are the pancakes, which come with syrup and bananas, and Eggs Benedict.
Nice place, but nothing special.
Amazing service and great food! It is a pricey restaurant but you get what you pay for. I also mentioned that it was an occasion as we were dining there for a birthday and they brought out a little selection of macarons with a candle. The waiters and waitresses were attentive throughout the evening and the food came very quickly. I will definitely be returning. A lovely special restaurant.
