raspberry sorbet and Mascarpone Chantilly
Prawn and avocado cocktail was not nice
Avocado and artichoke salad was served with no artichokes
Moules frites served with no frites, so everyone had food at different times…. Naturally 12.5% service still added
Too busy for servers so service poor
Real shame, been here many times before as was so good and really loved the food…. Now won’t come again
Always a nice vibe, in a lovely room. Only criticism is that three of us were squeezed around a very small table.
Brilliant experience ,great service and atmosphere. A few items on the menu were not available but there were plenty of alternatives.
Been to New York Balthazar many times and always very good.
Felt sorry for the lack of training or experience the waiting staff had.
Will not be going back anytime soon
Great food and even better service. Calvin was amazing
Supremely disappointing across the board. Rude staff and subpar food are not a good combination. First and last time eating there.
First time dining at Balthazar, friendly efficient service. Great food, really good atmosphere. Would happily return.
Excellent place and location for Brunch
Pavement location near railings not good as pavement users keep knocking you, better under the external umbrellas if outside
Food was good, little pricey for Brunch but great ambience
Not as I remembered it from 8 years ago…it’s just okay
Given table outside as requested. Even though we mentioned it’s our anniversary we were given the worst possible table near a smoking spot in the street
Service was way too slow. Don’t think we saw the waitress smile even once.
After finishing each course we sat there with the empty plates for ages until we ran out of patience calling the waiters over
The food was good. The cocktail and wine menu very limited and not Good value for money at all
We won’t be going back to this restaurant and do not recommend unless it’s last minute and there are no other choices
Drinks areuved very late. Also sides arrived after we alerted the waiters.
I felt the food was very average and didn't like the dessert at all. The service was very slow, were sitting there over finished plates for ages... I would say very average, but nice interior and good location.
Very good indeed.
Great room and food.
Needs a value house wine.
I always enjoy going to Balthazar after the opera. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and very good food.
Excellent meal.Good variety well presented.Attentive staff.
Main dish was only tepid when it arrived at the table but the french fries were hot. Despite this the main dish was very flavourful.
Food was very average/poor. Service was slow and I had special requests for the table (as was friend’s 50th birthday), that were ignored. Venue is nice but not a patch on New York.
Nice French style bistro cafe etc, food was nice ,service was very good ..was very busy the prices were on the upper side for the food but it is covent garden
Straightforward food with good service. But blaring music on top of a very live acoustic means you have to lip-read. Noise is quite exhausting. So not good for conversation.
Hate to give a mediocre review coz I love this place, but the food was just not what it should be. And I don’t know if they’ve squashed more tables in but it was SO loud we had to shout to be heard. It’s a lovely setting but when the buzz of the atmosphere becomes painful noise it’s just not enjoyable. Still, a great place for a big party. For three colleagues catching up over dinner - didn’t work out.
This is the best place to eat in Covent Garden
Great ambience, great service, fun place (noise level can be high), amazing delicious food.
The team work so hard there - special thank you to the serving team and also the cooks in the kitchen.
Can't wait to go back!
Had a great time. definitely go again recommend it to anybody great value great people
Amazing food and service! Sat us outside so we could watch the chaos of Covent Garden, and let us have the table for longer than they said. Sooo friendly. And tasty desserts!!! Oh and the prawn starter
We’ve been going to Balthazar in London since it opened. Honestly the service seems to get worse each time. This time we gave up after waiting 25 mins past our booking time (and we arrived early) for a table. Not good enough. Not sure if we’ll be back.
Fantastic food, drinks and entertainment.
Starters were OK, but quamain courses and deserts were simply not good
Just isn’t what it used to be. The service has always been dicey but they’ve removed the items that brought us there in the first place, plus such a pitiful wine list. We won’t be returning.
So much fun. Way beyond my expectations. Had no idea that a simple dinner would become an evening at a glamorous Parisian nightclub. I loved it ALL the way. A true 2021 experience that could be close to the top of my lost by year end.
Drinks post theatre
Lovely fresh mocktail and cocktail
Could only sit at a table if ordered food so we chose the cheese parcels and some chips - super tasty!
Food was OK and a nice ambience but ruined by rude service; the worst we’ve experienced recently. It was fairly busy but no excuse for that in my opinion.
Vibrant place to eat in the heart of Covent Garden with delicious bistro style food and lovely staff.
It’s a must to book Balthazar as at first the receptionist turned me away saying that she was expecting a few large parties at any minuet??? I then stood outside (where there were more empty tables) and booked via Open Table. During the time I was there I didn’t see any large parties arrive so maybe the receptionist (dark hair in a plait) should at least double check before turning paying custom away.
Brunch was nice but this will be my last visit.
We know and love Balthazar in NYC. This is a very pale version. Food not very good, service chaotic, environment chaotic and worst of all, a horrible “cabaret” dancing performance every 30 minutes that interrupts the dinner, halts conversation and transforms the restaurant into a cheesy, horrible tourist trap. Beware.
We had oysters which were the first time fior 2 of our party and started off our meal for them with a great new experience they thoroughly enjoyed
Every course was spot on and the dancers and singer were an extra entertainment bonus
Second time we’ve eaten here and we we’re not disappointed, looking forward to the next occasion
Food was excellent. The service, while friendly, was way too slow. Also they are now doing some sort of theatre show during dinner. The show was good but is more suited to tourists.
Waited 45 mins for starter, 1 1/4 hours for main course and at 2 hours gave up trying to order dessert. Really poor service but great food. I guess they can’t recruit enough staff
Great experience, service was on point. Quick from ordering to table. Little loud but expected.
Amazing fresh seafood bar, classic food that you can't go wrong with and good Friday night entertainment with the singers and dancers. Lobster was flavourful and the muscles yummy and more than plentiful. Service is hit and miss with some just simply serving your burger and fries and not bothering to offer ketchup, while others take a little more time and are polite, attentive, and charming. Beautiful bar but drink size options are either 125ml or half a bottle (no 175ml).
This was the second time in a row I’ve been disappointed by my experience at Balthazar. Both times the staff were chaotic and rushed around. Except this time one spilled a glass of champagne down me. Neither time was I offered any compensation or anything to make up for the situation. They only moved us from our champagne sodden table because we made them.
Think this will be my last visit.
