with roasted tomatoes, piment d'Espelette and basil
with honey mustard and crème fraîche
Good a little slow but great service
Great London venue noisy busy people watching space polite staff good food, havnt been for 2 years but nothing has changed!
Unfortunately we had to leave before the main course was served and the kitchen was busy... so we never got to try the food properly...
Food was very good. Nice seating and service was excellent. Music was a bit thumpy and too loud
Food was really bad.
long waiting even with reservation
Had to wait about 20mins for our table which was a shame and service was a bit slow- presumably they are suffering with staffing level problems. Food and ambiance were both very good and it was a nice lively environment.
Fantastic in every way. Very lovely staff in a great atmosphere, and food outstanding.
After a 30min wait for our table we had (as usual) a lovely dinner. The wait did put us under pressure as we had an early reservation and theatre tickets that evening. Service was efficient and reasonably friendly given how busy they were.
It was really nice and the atmosphere amd the food!
Nice space with a good vibe. Our food was good and enjoyable but not outstanding. The service was friendly but not that efficient.
Great food, atmosphere. Great night
I’ve never eaten there twice and in both instances only one of the two courses was really great. Great selection of bourbon though, maybe the best in the city. All in all, quality in New York is better.
Great! Always a go to for London
Great experience as per usual would recommend anybody to go.
The staff are great fantastic
Not up to its usual standard. Drinks took at least 30 mins to arrive. One of the starters was not what was ordered. The raspberry soufflé was heavy and was like a bowl of mixture rather than a soufflé .
The service was really poor. Had to wait a long time for a table even though made a reservation and arrived on time. We weren’t even told how long the wait would be, so had to search for an available table ourselves.
When asked for a wine recommendation, didn’t get anything - a waitress couldn’t even understand what we were looking for.
We arrived early and were welcomed to sit at the bar. Our table was booked for 6.30pm @ 8.40pm after we had ordered coffee/espresso martinis in lieu of a dessert, we were told that we had been at the table for 3 hours and that our order would not be served and it was cancelled. Even though we tried to explain we had only been at the table just over 2 hours and this was an engagement celebration - they just said sorry but you have to go now. We didn’t want to get stressed and spoil our family celebration so left feeling really disappointed. The restaurant couldn’t fawn over us enough when we were buying champagne!!!
At no point were we informed that there is a time limit on the table, the customer or the experience is not important at all to the decision makers. I do not blame the ordinary waiting staff, they were lovely - it is the management at fault.
Service was speedy and nice, food and drinks served quickly. Shame that we came for special occasion (birthday) which was mentioned on booking with special request but they totally forgetting all of them
We were running late but called ahead and the staff held our table which was very kind. We chose this restaurant because of its proximity to Theatre Royal, our Pre theatre dinner could not have been better planned.
The food and the atmosphere in the restaurant was excellent, the staff are friendly and attentive. I’d highly recommend this restaurant for Pre or post theatre dinner
Food was ok….. not worth the price in anyway. Steak was good meat but not cooked as asked. Mac n cheese was poor.
Lovely dining room, buzzing atmosphere. Service good. Food ok. Go here more for the ambience than great food. Perfect pre or post theatre. Chocolate mousse was huge and deliciously rich.
Although we had to wait fifteen mi utes as had arrived early we were made very welcome . Initially offered a bar table I requested a table in restaurant with upholstered seats and a few minutes later we were offered one. The cocktails were delicious as was food and nothing was too much trouble . Staff were attentive and friendly. Xxx
Food was good when it arrived. Great quality oysters.
It was a busy Friday night but appeared very well staffed.
Most of the service was very very slow. First round of drinks were ordered as we were seated, took 25 mins for two cocktails to arrive. Starters arrived 45 mins after we were seated. Asked for a drinks menu but didn’t materialise as we sat with empty glasses for 20 mins. Main course arrived promptly.
We asked for the bill as the main course was being cleared away. The bill was the only thing that was managed quickly during the evening. Shortly after they asked us for the table back as we were finishing two glasses of wine we had struggled to order.
We weren’t table hogging and within the time they outline in their borderline draconian booking policy.
Having eaten there >10 times previously it seems it’s gone downhill.
It is not my first time at Balthazar. This time the service was below any accepted standards. The manager who took our order was arrogant - he even told me that the right thing was to pronounce duck parfait with "t" at the end!!! We asked three times for the main course as we were going then to the Opera, no one took our order for another glass of champagne. The waiters were not professional, the manager tried to train them on the spot - no success. So disappointed.
Such attentive service. Food fabulous as always!
The food is good but not excellent as expected due to the price
Too noisy and in reality the brunch card is really short
Dont have the escargot, tasteless rubber. Strawberry soufflé excellent!
We had booked a table and were withing the 10 minute grace period for being late, thye had given our table away within 5 minutes so we were sat waiting at the bar to be seated, after 30 minutes we still hadnt been seated and when i compained we got seated immediately which is annoying as there were plenty of emty tables.
The food then came and the lobster spaghetti as well over cooked that it was inedible.
Its sucha shame as i go here all the time
Ayda the receptionist was so nice and friendly in a very busy Sunday. The kitchen though was out of pancakes which is unusual.
We went for my daughter’s 9th birthday - great atmosphere and delicious food
Tourist trap with mediocre food. The waiting staff seemed lost. No reason to return.
A very, very disappointing visit to Balthazar yesterday. The terrible lunch began with the table not being set and the waitress not knowing what a gin martini was and asking if it was a real drink… she was not joking.
The next calamity was the red wine ordered to go with the main wasn’t available and then our second ordered choice never arrived. In addition our first choice was one of only five that could be ordered by the glass - pretty poor to not have in stock.
One of the mains, the steak frites, was cold.
After managing to flag down a waiter to enquire about the missing red wine whilst eating our mains a glass of white was later delivered to me (looking and being very pregnant and not the person who ordered it). It was post the cold steak and plates being removed so a bit late and most importantly the wrong wine so sent back.
We hoped all could be revived with an espresso martini for my husband, but alas that was undrinkable and my decaf white americano was a black caffeinated one.
Finally, my husband’s chair was bashed into three times by waiters moving heavy tables across the room with no apology or excuse me. Unfortunately no one at any point asked how our meal was, so apart from asking for the service to be removed from the bill we didn’t get a chance to feed any of this back, hopefully the restaurant will read this but I’m not holding out any hope.
Were there any positives?
I must be fair and admit once they’d arrived our starters (the mozzarella) and one of the mains (lobster Thermidor) were good.
Prawn and avocado cocktail was not nice
Avocado and artichoke salad was served with no artichokes
Moules frites served with no frites, so everyone had food at different times…. Naturally 12.5% service still added
Too busy for servers so service poor
Real shame, been here many times before as was so good and really loved the food…. Now won’t come again
Always a nice vibe, in a lovely room. Only criticism is that three of us were squeezed around a very small table.
Brilliant experience ,great service and atmosphere. A few items on the menu were not available but there were plenty of alternatives.
Lovely atmosphere. Whole party enjoyed their food. Service was a little slow and disjointed.
Been to New York Balthazar many times and always very good.
Felt sorry for the lack of training or experience the waiting staff had.
Will not be going back anytime soon
Great food and even better service. Calvin was amazing
