The Balthazar Boulangerie is housed next door serving its own house-made artisan breads, as well as a wide selection of homemade pastries, salads and sandwiches to take away throughout the day.
Not the same as new York. Ok evening but nothing to write home about
Excellent. As regular opera/theatregoers we can often be found here afterwards.
Bad service with autograt
Food decent but not worth it
We thoroughly enjoyed it. It has a good ambience and not a noisy crowded feeling as so many restaurants can be. Great service and menu. Will defenitely Return.
Service was outstanding! Possibly the best service I have had in London. Brunch menu was a bit disappointing in terms of ish flavours however main menu looked really good!
Awful service. Rude staff. Will never return.
The service was amazing. Suggesting were given that were wonderful. Loved the cod. I like London Balthazar better than the one in nyc. And I love New York’s restaurant.
Loved everything except the noise!
The food was mostly good although the chicken was bland and the lobster on the pasta was tough to chew. Our table was right next to the waiters' station which was not very scenic and felt set apart from the main dining area. We had ballet tickets so the location was superb for the convenience to the ROH.
Mentioned that it was my daughters birthday and we were catching a show. Nothing was mentioned about it.
The venue and ambience is fantastic, very buzzy but not too noisy. We were welcomed and ordered in good time. Our waitress was friendly and attentive but we had some challenges being understood, perhaps she couldn’t hear us well or perhaps because English is her second language (we are British and American).
Food arrived very quickly and was delicious. Service throughout the meal was attentive. We had a cocktail to end our meal.
The end of the meal was disappointing. We felt abandoned and could not get anyone’s attention to get the bill. Since it was a work dinner, we both got a little embarrassed as you need to fill the conversation while looking around the room for service. It didn’t help that we were sitting behind a large pillar.
Overall, we had a good experience, but it could have been perfect. We will be back.
Very busy brasserie serving very nice food
The dessert was not nice, the soufflé and baba cake were so sweet. The cheese and beetroot salad was nothing to shout about. The fish pie was terrible
We booked at fairly short notice for brunch. Upon arrival, the restaurant was heaving busy. But every member of staff was excellent, they really took the time to greet us, make sure we were happy once seated, and despite how busy it was, I didn’t feel we waited too long for anything (and just as importantly, neither were we rushed).
The food was ok, but nothing more. I was hoping for something exceptional, but was a little disappointed, especially for the price. I had a full English. The eggs were over cooked and chewy, the bacon very thin and dry, and what I assume was a fried bread was tough enough to be a building material.
Overall it was still a nice experience, and we would try this restaurant again, albeit not for breakfast/brunch.
One of the nicest meals I’ve ever had - great place
Food was really good and service was ok! Very busy restaurant - expect crowds but still worth a visit!
Great food and service and would be 5 stars but the tables are ludicrously close together which all but rules out going to the toilet with out bumping the next table.
Good food, service was excellent, but very noisy for a business lunch
Lost count of the times I have been here, but this last one was extra special as I got some little birthday treats at the end of our meal... Very lovely touch! And shoutout to our waiter Maraj for being beyond attentive and cheery. Very lovely evening all round! Will be back many times more.
A very pleasant evening business meal was enjoyed by both of us.
I was surprised to find the quality of the food so bad today. I had selected Balthazar for pancake day and the pancakes were definitely undercooked and doughy at parts! They also arrived practically cold.
Perfect place for a perfect onion soup :)
Great food nice place but a bit loud
Delicious food, big portions, great service and very nice ambience.
Great food and service, cocktails fav as well!
It was ok but the food is very average. Strange lighting in there and although it was February the air con was blasting cold air and they have ceiling fans!!!
Big fan of nyc location. London is an equally wonderful experience . Great staff, service and food. Fun
Lively buzz and overall a great evening
- changing a booking from 4 to 6 was a mission as when I called I didn’t have my card with me . Had to go back all the way to my office to get it as they wouldn’t otherwise change the booking.
-our table was small for 6 and in the way of a continuous flow of waiters walking around. My chair kept being bumped in by them, very annoying
- service was very poor. Our waiter was rather intrusive and sarcastic all the way true. We all did feel very uncomfortable about it. His service was poor throughout on several levels! Serving wine from my side to the other side of the table meant a few times I had his elbow on my face or in my glass. Ordered sparkling water and got still.
- starter of beef tartar was average, rather dense and heavy
- spaghetti lobster was a total rip off for £27! Hardly any lobster in it, a bit of a claw and small bits of a tale, very over cooked chewy meat. Spaghetti were actually cut in half and over cooked too. The balance of the dish was just wrong with so much chilli in the dish I couldn’t taste anything else. Utterly awful
I had been here before a few times in the past and I liked it back then! It has changed and not in a good way. Not recommended!
Lunch with 3 dear friends turned into a great afternnon. Your staff looked after us wonderfully from 12.45 until just after 7pm.....a fabulous restaurant.
Food just not great
My daughter’s birthday. Everything was perfect except because the woman who host at the entrance, she bad manners to us, I’m a regular customer and I’ve always loved to go there and generally the people who work there is very kind.
Balthazar is a lively, fun place to go post-theatre. It is busy and buzzy - good bistro fare. My husband had oysters, then mussels and fries (chips) and spinach; I had the special, beef bourguignon, also fries and Brussels sprouts. Bread is hearty/rustic and excellent. The only disappointment was the wine, a pinot noir, but there were other choices and we'll pick differently next time. Our server was very nice and helpful - we had a good time.
I went to Balthazar Convent Garden with my fiancé on Saturday 23rd of February. I had reserved a table as we were going to a show at 7:30pm. We were promptly shown to our table. Our waiter got us some water while we looked at menu. I had the duck with dauphanois gratin and my fiancé had the lamb with chips. Food was all delicious and I enjoyed every mouthful. My Fiancé enjoyed his too. Unfortunately we couldn't stay for desert but I will definitely be back but maybe not at such a peak time. The noise level out off the charts. But it wouldn't put me off totally. Service is very efficient, staff are attentive and friendly. Very enjoyable visit.
Simply an ideal pre-show supper venue. Always buzzing & full of atmosphere. Staff friendly, communicative & efficient. Food fabulous! Love it!
We only had brunch there, however the food was below average
Good love it
We were pleased by the service but the food was really mediocre I'm afraid and overpriced. This resonates with the feedback I got from a friend.
Buzzing and busy. Tables close to each other. Had to wait for table despite booking while others appeared to walk straight on through. Waiting staff were great. Friendly and attentive. Food was fresh, tasty and hot.
All the staff were very good and attentive, food was also very good, but due the high ceilings quite noisy. Good for a pre theatre meal but not a quiet meal for two.
