The Balthazar Boulangerie is housed next door serving its own house-made artisan breads, as well as a wide selection of homemade pastries, salads and sandwiches to take away throughout the day.
Good service and food was acceptable although not quite as good as on previous occasions.
Everything was great but it was a bit noisy.
Waiters great, fast service, nice ambience. Good for Covent Garden
Service was very good, helpful with allergies. The food was average. Very nice atmosphere in the restaurant.
The loud swearing Americans at the next table were unpleasant.
Most enjoyable. Really good food and great, buzzy ambience.
Excellent food and service as always and great value for money
We didn't think much of Balthazar. The menu relies on the same repertoire of French bistro favourites you'd find at Cafe Rouge and Cote Brasserie, excepte here they're easily 50% more expensive. For the premium, you get a prime central location and a large and noisy dining room in which the volume levels are so high it's hard to conduct a conversation without shouting or straining to hear. Food was competent and tasty in a mass-catering kind of way, without being memorable in any way whatsoever. We escaped as soon as we could, and enjoyed our dessert and coffee at the new Portuguese bakery over the road, which was definitely the highlight of our meal. Big shout out for Santa Nata: pastel de nata to die for! I have to say that if you want a luxurious brasserie-style dinner, places like Delaunay and The Ivy Brasserie do the whole Grand Cafe thing so much better than Balthazar.
Very good service, food wait for not long. The staff even filleted my fish even though they advised this is not something they usually do.
Maitre d deserves a great shout out - gave us my favourite table! Staff were brilliant. Food delicious as ever. I’ll keep coming back!
Great place, great food and great service. That’s why I keep going back!
Great food and ambiance
Will come again sure
As returning customers, it seems that Balthazar is not what it used to be. Un attentive staff, had to get up from table twice or more to call waiter, sent back the duck pie which was really not great, paid about 65 pounds for one two main courses, one was a plain spaghetti with tomato sauce for the kid, really poor experience. The candle and macarons at the end on the house was a nice effort, sorry, not enough, this will be our last time. Btw, I was at the opening night in Nyc in 1998 so kept a warm spot in my heart for the brand, ouch.
Disappointed! I booked on basis of good reviews but disappointed for following reasons: incredibly noisy and difficult to have a conversation, food was mediocre - my wife’s pasta dish was luke warm, as was my coffee, mediocre wine felt overpriced at £48 per bottle, service very slow - took over 2 hours for two courses and coffee. I think there are many better value alternatives around and do not intend to go back there.
Balthazar in NYC is one of my favorite places to eat Steak Tartare, so I made a reservation while in London. We got to the restaurant, and I checked in with the host. I then went to get my friend (waiting at the bar) and when I came back, the host had seated a table of 3 other Asian women (I'm an Asian woman) because he thought it was my group. No apology; he retrieved the seated party and moved them to a non-res area. No apology all night from anyone, and service was really slow. We were a party of three and ordered 1 appetizer, 3 mains and 2 desserts, and the entire meal took 3 hours.
Balthazar is an amazing place in Covent garden. The ambience and food are exquisite. The service today took unfortunately way too long
Always good quality food and service. The prices are fair for the quality you get. The ambience is excellent, you would never know from the tasteful decor that it had only opened in 2013. It has the feel and style of a past era.
When I asked for no coriander so they made me a dish special without my asking! Excellent service!
Normaly it is very good bit yesterday the service was very bad. Everything took a long time.
Lovely night. Great service and the food met our expectations. We would recommend it!
Very fun ambiance and a great place for pre or post theatre bookings.
This restaurant is very loud, and the layout of the tables are very uncomfortable.
My third visit, I really like the vibe and ambience
The food was excellent - my salmon tartare was excellently presented, and the horseradish not too strong; and the stroganoff was juicy beef, instead of leather. But the piece de resistance was undoubtedly the raspberry souffle. The wine was good, although very expensive. I have been there twice now; on both occasions, very good. French, without being tiresomely French...
Pésimo servicio , hace mucho no nos atendían tan mal! No nos quedan ganas de regresar ! El
Mesero nos aventaba las cartas, se burlaba! Pésimo servicio
Food was very tasty and service impeccable!
Brilliant service and great atmosphere, all the food was great (we went for brunch).
Best stick with the seafood - the steak was not the best cut. Ver noisy with reverberant acoustics. Outstanding service, however.
Went for supper following a superb Billy Budd at ROH which didn't finish until nearly 11pm. Tuesday night at that time was pretty quiet but delighted that the Tuesday special Duck Pie was still available. Great service as always.
We had 4 dishes
Macaroni cheese was good
Salmon was cooked well but had none of the glaze flavour specified on the menu
Tuna nicoise was served with rocket salad which was not specified on the menu and looked thrown on the plate
The roast cod was hard around the edges and rubbery to eat. Didn’t look appetisingly placed on the plate. Was cold
The lentil side ordered was the same as the lentil served with the salmon which could have been pointed out. We ended up with a ton of lentils.
Didn’t live up to expectations. Service was slow and food was average
In the heart of Covent Garden by the Opera House. Great location for shopping and foodies. Would recommend.
My son wanted to have his birthday dinner here. We were a little hesitant as he’s turning 7 and it seems a bit formal for him but it was great!! The staff was wonderful and accommodating, the kids menu was great, we appreciated he choose a place with amazing food and wine for the parents, and they did a lovely happy birthday dessert for him which made his day. The atmosphere is so wonderful! I come here with friends pre-theater and it’s always a great choice due to food and service!
We were a table of two, for pre-theatre supper. The maitre'd unhelpfully sat us at different tables, out of line of sight of each other, despite acknowledging the reservation to each. It took us 25 minutes to realise the error. Once rectified and mollified by offer of two glasses of bubbles, the rest of the meal went smoothly. Food as good as always.
Always a pleasure to dine at Balthazar. Lovely food, friendly staff and great service. Took my friend there for her birthday brunch and she loved it.
Place packed. Attitude of waiting staff felt forced rather than genuine. Starter was a few meagre prawns in a bowel of sauce. Main was over-cooked. With a half carafe of white it was over £100 for 2 ppl and not worth it. I won’t be rushing back.
Always the central London go-to for a certain good meal well sourced, presented and delicious meal. Just great, what can I say?
Very enjoyable evening - excellent food and wine, and service could not be faulted.
Balthazar has always been one of our favourites but the food seemed to go to a whole new level on our recent visit. Steak Tartare to die for and all 3 of our meals were excellent. Service was attentive even though the restaurant was busy. Always a good atmosphere even when dining early or late. We will be back as always.
