with roasted tomatoes, piment d'Espelette and basil
with honey mustard and crème fraîche
Ambiente carino, servizio discreto, rapporto qualità prezzo elevato
Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff.
Arrived 5 mins early for reservation - made to wait 20 mins at $:30. Steak was poor quality meat. Sides were average.
I love this place as it's ever so opulent, especially the stairs leading up to the toilets. The food and service are both very good, tables a bit too crammed, and they try to squeezed another chair to a two seater table to make it sit three, that I don't like. The set menu is a bit limited for choice, that I don't mind provided they change it say once a month but they don't which is disappointing. No one wants the same set menu every month.
Balthazar has a great atmosphere - very buzzy - in the heart of Covent Garden. Good service, good food, a great experience.
My partner has a mushroom allergy which the restaurant was notified about when booking the table. The waitress was also informed by us about the allergy.
When we was halfway through eating our starters the waitress run over to the table apologising that she had forget to tell the chef about the allergy but everything should be fine with the starters.
For main I ordered the beef and my partner veal, these were served the wrong way round so we swapped plates whilst a different waiter was still at the table. Halfway through eating the mains the waiter ran back over to the table and told my partner not to eat anything as he needs to double check with the chef about the allergy once again. He did not go into the kitchen to check. We watched him serve other tables for at least 10 minutes before we was able to flag him down. He then told that everything was fine but he forgot to tell us. By this time our food was obviously cold.
Allergy’s are clearly not taken seriously in this restaurant.
Nice brunch and great service. A classic in London
The food was not hot at all and just left feeling disappointed. It was meant to be a special occasion and working as a chef I never have the time to go for brunch on a Sunday so big regrets for picking to go here
Saturday night. Had a booking at 18.00 prior to theatre. Got told on arrival we had to wait for our table as they were far too busy. All very rushed. Food was decent. Good ambience. Service faster if you tell them you have the theatre!!
We arrived 5 minutes ahead of our reservation. We were told to wait outside in the cold until our actual time. We were outside for 20 minutes until our table was ready.
We was then rushed to order our food. My meal and sides were then taken from the table, without asking if I had actually finished my meal.
Given the desert menu and was out the door all within 45 minutes.
Would not go back
Escargot with no or little garlic and no butter SAT ON POTATO a REAL REAL disappointment
Good a little slow but great service
Great London venue noisy busy people watching space polite staff good food, havnt been for 2 years but nothing has changed!
Unfortunately we had to leave before the main course was served and the kitchen was busy... so we never got to try the food properly...
I absolutely love Balthazar in New York, and was thrilled when this similarly grand and near-identical extension opened in London. I’ve had some of the best afternoons of my life here, and so it was with great anticipation that I returned for the first time after the 18 month Covid hiatus, with my daughter and her cousin.
Maybe everyone is a bit out of practice, or maybe the seasoned staff have largely left, but many of our waiters were on their first day and there seemed to be a slight air of ‘coping’ with the demands of customers. I made a couple of small requests for alterations to dishes (i.e. to tone down the chilli for my 10-year-old) which they regretted they were unable to service. Everything was delicious, but had it all got a little (whisper it!) smaller…?
The experience was fine… in fact it was better than fine, it was good, but I left feeling that it hadn’t quite lived up to memory or expectations, which - for the price - is important. The quality has got to stay high for the reputation and prices to remain justified.
Food was very good. Nice seating and service was excellent. Music was a bit thumpy and too loud
Food was really bad.
long waiting even with reservation
Had to wait about 20mins for our table which was a shame and service was a bit slow- presumably they are suffering with staffing level problems. Food and ambiance were both very good and it was a nice lively environment.
Fantastic in every way. Very lovely staff in a great atmosphere, and food outstanding.
After a 30min wait for our table we had (as usual) a lovely dinner. The wait did put us under pressure as we had an early reservation and theatre tickets that evening. Service was efficient and reasonably friendly given how busy they were.
It was really nice and the atmosphere amd the food!
Nice space with a good vibe. Our food was good and enjoyable but not outstanding. The service was friendly but not that efficient.
Great food, atmosphere. Great night
I’ve never eaten there twice and in both instances only one of the two courses was really great. Great selection of bourbon though, maybe the best in the city. All in all, quality in New York is better.
Great! Always a go to for London
Great experience as per usual would recommend anybody to go.
The staff are great fantastic
Not up to its usual standard. Drinks took at least 30 mins to arrive. One of the starters was not what was ordered. The raspberry soufflé was heavy and was like a bowl of mixture rather than a soufflé .
The service was really poor. Had to wait a long time for a table even though made a reservation and arrived on time. We weren’t even told how long the wait would be, so had to search for an available table ourselves.
When asked for a wine recommendation, didn’t get anything - a waitress couldn’t even understand what we were looking for.
We arrived early and were welcomed to sit at the bar. Our table was booked for 6.30pm @ 8.40pm after we had ordered coffee/espresso martinis in lieu of a dessert, we were told that we had been at the table for 3 hours and that our order would not be served and it was cancelled. Even though we tried to explain we had only been at the table just over 2 hours and this was an engagement celebration - they just said sorry but you have to go now. We didn’t want to get stressed and spoil our family celebration so left feeling really disappointed. The restaurant couldn’t fawn over us enough when we were buying champagne!!!
At no point were we informed that there is a time limit on the table, the customer or the experience is not important at all to the decision makers. I do not blame the ordinary waiting staff, they were lovely - it is the management at fault.
Service was speedy and nice, food and drinks served quickly. Shame that we came for special occasion (birthday) which was mentioned on booking with special request but they totally forgetting all of them
We were running late but called ahead and the staff held our table which was very kind. We chose this restaurant because of its proximity to Theatre Royal, our Pre theatre dinner could not have been better planned.
The food and the atmosphere in the restaurant was excellent, the staff are friendly and attentive. I’d highly recommend this restaurant for Pre or post theatre dinner
Food was ok….. not worth the price in anyway. Steak was good meat but not cooked as asked. Mac n cheese was poor.
Lovely dining room, buzzing atmosphere. Service good. Food ok. Go here more for the ambience than great food. Perfect pre or post theatre. Chocolate mousse was huge and deliciously rich.
Although we had to wait fifteen mi utes as had arrived early we were made very welcome . Initially offered a bar table I requested a table in restaurant with upholstered seats and a few minutes later we were offered one. The cocktails were delicious as was food and nothing was too much trouble . Staff were attentive and friendly. Xxx
Food was good when it arrived. Great quality oysters.
It was a busy Friday night but appeared very well staffed.
Most of the service was very very slow. First round of drinks were ordered as we were seated, took 25 mins for two cocktails to arrive. Starters arrived 45 mins after we were seated. Asked for a drinks menu but didn’t materialise as we sat with empty glasses for 20 mins. Main course arrived promptly.
We asked for the bill as the main course was being cleared away. The bill was the only thing that was managed quickly during the evening. Shortly after they asked us for the table back as we were finishing two glasses of wine we had struggled to order.
We weren’t table hogging and within the time they outline in their borderline draconian booking policy.
Having eaten there >10 times previously it seems it’s gone downhill.
It is not my first time at Balthazar. This time the service was below any accepted standards. The manager who took our order was arrogant - he even told me that the right thing was to pronounce duck parfait with "t" at the end!!! We asked three times for the main course as we were going then to the Opera, no one took our order for another glass of champagne. The waiters were not professional, the manager tried to train them on the spot - no success. So disappointed.
Such attentive service. Food fabulous as always!
The food is good but not excellent as expected due to the price
Too noisy and in reality the brunch card is really short
