we had more expectations as we have been here some times before ...
We have been going for 5 years. Before the renovation the menu decreased in quality all of the sudden and today we went back for the first time after the renovation and we were very disappointed. Menu is short, food is bland... we won’t be going back soon.
Great atmosphere - service was slow and mixed
Really great venue and a lovely meal but for some reason we were seated in the same area as all of the families with babies and very small children so our meal was spent trying to hear each other over lots of screaming. It wasn't until we were heading out that we noticed there were no babies anywhere else in the restaurant and there were plenty of empty tables so I'm not sure why we were placed there (perhaps because we were a group of women and they assumed we wouldn't mind!)
Stupendous, attentive service with a smile, welcoming and encouraging waiting staff.
Food cooked to perfection
Food quality and presentation is beyond expectation. Great services. Definitely one of the best in town.
The atmosphere was nice a bit over the top probably because is part of the posh hotel
Good was good the burger a bit to over cooked
Duck small two pieces in a huge plate so they get cold quite quickly
Starter very interesting
Dessert well strange taste the apricot the rest very good
Total was £120 for 3 sharif starter two main and two dessert
For the first time in the many years we’ve been coming here, we were disappointed with the food.
We had 90 minutes or so free so we chose from the set menu, which is excellent value for the location.
Things got off to a bad start...despite it being only 1pm, they’d already run out of soup. They offered to replace it with another soup (it was ‘soup’ weather), which my wife accepted, but she only rated it as ‘OK’.
I chose what our waitress described as ‘a selection of charcuterie’, but which turned out to be a slice of (very good) terrine.
My wife had the sea bass ‘main’, which was over cooked and dry. I had the poule au pot, which was bland, going on tasteless.
We didn’t have the time to ask for any dishes to be replaced, so we just had coffee and left.
The restaurant had only just reopened after being closed for 6 months or so, so we wondered whether there’d been a higher than usual turnover of staff.
Excellent as always, best burger in London. No lunch menu on but no major problem.
We had late lunch on Jan.01/19.
Extremely noisy not because of the number of people but because of a group of 5 who I guess thought were in their house and not in a restaurant & nobody from the staff said a word!! Also I think that a dress code should be implemented.
The recently re-opened Bar Boulud is a pleasant enough space with good food and competent service. The wine list is overly expensive and too focussed on French product. The food is well prepared, but perhaps could benefit from being a little more adventurous.
Food was great, standouts we tried were tartare de boeuf, ceviche and pineapple souffle.
All the staff were super friendly and welcoming. Would visit again.
Very good hamburgers but pricey. Atmosphere plain, nothing special for a place at Mandarin Oriental at Christmas time. Service wants to be excellent but messy, and a French waiter, quite arrogant through all dinner, charged twice my credit card and didn’t even come to apologise. Unpleasant situation and disappointing experience. Definitely not worth the money.
The restaurant wasn’t full and the host didn’t let us sit at the table we wanted claiming that it was reserved. And by the time we left the tables were still empty.
Good food and excellent service. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Definitely would go back.
Excellent professional service
High quality food and at £24 all inclusive for three courses with three options first two courses then dessert from a la carte menu incl soufflé and coffee/tea
I think it would be even more popular if you threw in a glass of wine for £30 or champagne £32
Located on the lower ground level of the Mandarin Oriental and it's a quite nice to just walk into any 5 star hotel which adds to the experience of going to a nice restaurant. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. The service was excellent and very attentive without being overbearing. Their set menu was lovely.
Fabulous lunch! Service was perfect. Food amazing. Great wine list. Any restaurant that has a soufflé of the day is fine by me! The pineapple soufflé was delicious. The beef tartare and the ceviche starters were sublime! We loved everything and will definitely be back!
First time dining here since the renovation and it was all fine. So a reliable stop when shopping in knightsbridge but nothing special.
Lovely food and very impressive service. Had the trout which was beautifully cooked and an orange and chocolate dessert which I’ve thought about a few times since - wishing I could have bought a piece for later 😜
Poor service since Ben the manager left
Without doubt this is my favourite place to have a burger which is not bettered by any other restaurant! The service is absolutely first class in a fantastic establishment situated in a very high profile location! As Arnie would say "I'll be back!"
The manager, Norm, was on the case. A minor issue that could have accrued was swiftly handled by Norm. Excellent customer service.
Love this restaurant.
We always visit just before Christmas (and at other times throughout the year) and always have a fabulous time.
The highlight, as always.... the MADELEINES!
Great value pre theatre menu. Fantastic service and amazing food.
Blows me away every time. Can’t wait to book. Best burger ever.
So happy they are open again after 6 months+ closure(fire).New Chef, very good menu, and love the soufflé on the desert menu; would go just for that any time of the day !
A beautiful restaurant to celebrate my friends birthday, the care the staff put in to ensure we had a lovely time was fantastic and the food was so absolutely delicious!!
Hmm, mixed feelings on this one. Very professional staff but... after being encouraged to arrive early and have a drink/s at the bar would have expected to be notified when our table was ready or at least be told to let the seating team know when we had finished and were ready. Twenty minutes after our booking time had elapsed I went to enquire... not the best start.
Chose ceviche to begin with and although the curing liquor itself was beatifully flavoured none of that flavour had transmitted to the fish, disappointing.
The high point of the meal was the main course, every mouthful of the merguez on a bed of giant couscous was a delicious delight and, quite frankly, this dish saved the experience for me.
The deconstructed apricot crumble dessert was a return to little flavour other than the pleasant smokiness of one of the components.
A weighty wine list is a feature of Bar Boulud but our original choice was unavailable so another little disappointment picking away at the enjoyment the evening had promised but failed to deliver. On this occasion I felt that the venue failed to live up to it's reputation. Perhaps everything needs a little longer to gel after the recent, post-fire damage, reopening. My jury is out on whether to give the place another second chance.....
The set menu is good value and quite good quality good . Wine list expensive , but you seem to get that in restaurants these days . Very friendly service
Excellent service. Food good but nothing special and certainly didn't justify the eye-watering prices. Back to Brasserie Zedel next time I want classic French!
Not impressed at all felt I was eating in a work's canteen. Set meal was very dull. We were overcharged for the wine we ordered a carafe of Baron de Rothchild and was given Bouscasse £41 not what we ordered luckily we checked the bill! The £4 dessert price part of the set meal was not advised. Dessert prices were £9 or £10. Very disappointed as would have expected better for a restaurant at the Mandarin . Having recently been to Soho House and Ham Yard both of which I would visit again I had thought the Mandarin would have similar standards.
So glad that you guys are back open. We love the Piggie Burger!
I like bar boulard but just a few teething problems after just opening after refit
The service from the wonderful lady on the front desk and the bar staff was amazing. The food was incredible; especially the coq au vin and the sublime macarons
The place could have been cleaner with food under our and other tables
With so many staff roaming around I have no idea how the service could have been so poor. We asked 4 times for drinks, wrong coffees arrived later and then when you needed someone, all of the 10 plus staff were looking at the floor
Amazing food, unacceptable service for the price and location
The food was good, but by no means mind-blowingly so. I was impressed with the overall setup though and, perhaps more importantly, they showed my mother-in-law a good time and left her eager to return.
Personally, I'd happily book again if I found myself in the area and in need of a bite to eat, but wouldn't go out of my way to return.
The service was very good but the food was average at best. There is nothing wrong with the food it is just not very inspiring or particularly tasty but very expensive and in my opinion not worth paying for. A dessert cost £8 (cocoa sponge) and it was beyond disappointing. Would not come back.
Professional staff dealing kindly and well with a busy cosmopolitan crowd, supplying good food and innovative cocktails. Good wine list.
