It’s always a treat eating at The Bee and Thistle Inn. Great food, great service. The staff is always warm and friendly. In addition, you can have a conversation without raising your voice because of the quiet, refined atmosphere.
Good food as always and enjoyed speaking with Chef Kris........a very nice gentleman.
Fun night with out of town friends who were celebrating their 60th Anniversary.
We had a lovely meal . Service was excellent, the inn is always lovely. The menu is quite limited, but what is served is done exceptionally well. The wine list has something for everyone. We had the lamb and the salmon and both were done exactly as requested. Sides were creative and delicious. The all star was a brioche, fig bread pudding....oh my!
Came here to dine as my husband had find remembrances from years ago. The restaurant has definitely seen better days . The waitress was very inept. The worst ever was when she delivered our bread, not wrapped in a napkin so it slid to the side of the basket so she took her entire bare hand and pressed it in the basket in front of us. The wind was not poured tableside and the glasses were not poured to regulation pour. The food was totally bland. The cod was completely tasteless. The experience was nothing short of terrible. We dined at two other places in town of much higher quality and better pricing.
Lovely atmosphere, food and service. Our favorite for a special night out.
Outstanding establishment! From the staff to the atmosphere to the amazing meal, our experience was top notch! We were also fortunate to meet and have drinks with the owner which was a special treat. Its no wonder this place is so amazing when the owners themselves are such great people!!
Always enjoyed, charming, intimate, cozy. But menu too small and too limited with no entree specials offered.
Another great dining experience at the Bee & Thistle!
Sadly this place has gone down hill over the years. The food choices were quite limited. We were there at 5:30 and they had pretty much run out of sweet potato gnocchi by 6:15 which was crazy. They also ran out of spinach for a side order. The condition of the exterior and interior of the building was quite dismal. There were stains on the chair fabric at the tables, chairs were chipped and in bad condition, the front step had loose or missing bricks, there was no hand rail at the front step when entering the building which for elderly patrons was unsafe. We were quite disappointed. Our server was quite slow and several times we had to flag someone down for water. Not a great experience.
we had dinner outside in the garden. The food was very good and the service outstanding which is harder when the diners are outside so that was an A+. We are booked in for next week again. Enough said.
It is always a special evening when we get the chance to go to the Bee and Thistle! Chef Rowe never disappoints! The wait staff are attentive and you just can’t beat the view!
We certainly wish we had the time to dine here more often!
We Saturday in the outdoor patio overlooking the lawn and river as it was a great evening to do so.
Our waitress was attentive and very pleasant.
Cocktails were good and out Garnacha wine with dinner was excellent.
The hangar steak special and chimichurri crusted pork err both superb and cooked to perfection as requested.
Our last minute request for sautéed spinach was handled graciously and it arrived quickly.
The Peach bourbon bread pudding topped off a great meal with a cup of tea.
It was an awesome celebratory dinner and look forward to returning when again in the area!!
We return to the Bee and Thistle each year and have always had an exceptional meal. Thank you.
We always come in July so we can go down to the river before dinner-beautiful view! Food is always excellent and such a lovely setting
Dinner was amazing! Headed back soon!
Why are you making me write so much. I like to keep things short!
This was our second visit to the Bee and Thistle for a "special occasion" dinner, and it did not disappoint. The service was attentive, the food quality and presentation were exceptional, and the ambience was what one would expect from a fine establishment such as this: romantic and full of New England charm.
This is our thrift trip to dine there and we loved it again. The service was top notch and the food was wonderful.
It was a lovely relaxing evening!
Had a wonderful evening however when I got home and looked at my receipt,I saw that I was charged full price for 2 glasses of wine 22$ instead of the Happy hour price
Great service and food
It was a bit chilly for outdoor dining, so we sate at the bar. The limited wine selection is always very thoughtfully crafted and the food, well it is over the top!
There is really no place like the Bee and Thistle!
Tosh and the rest of the team there are absolutely incredible.
It’s wonderful to be able to recommend a restaurant to people and know for sure that they will be extremely happy when they go there as well.
The food is consistently excellent and the people there make everyone feel so special.
First time outside on the patio and it was a great evening. Very pleasant, nice atmosphere, and great food and service (as always).
We had a wonderful meal at the Bee and Thistle. But our waitress forgot my glass of wine and we had made a point of telling her that we were going to the Goodspeed for a 7:30 performance. We didn't get our bill until 10 after 7:00 and the theatre is 25 minutes away.
My husband and I dined here on a Sunday evening and loved it. Cozy romantic rooms with antiques, flowers, glowing fireplaces. Lovely staff. Well chosen wine list. Delicious food beautifully presented. Elegant but unpretentious. We plan on dining here regularly.
We had an amazing first visit. We were greeted with warm smiles and friendly approach. The Fillet was perfect and my wife’s cod was the best fish either of us had ever tasted!!! So proud to have such a gem 💎 in Old Lyme!
Great for a special occasion! We really enjoyed our dinner.
The B&T is our favorite restaurant in the area for its lovely ambience, superb location and consistently good food. We have always enjoyed dining there, whether for dinner or a special occasion like Easter lunch, and this year (our fourth in a row) was no exception. And we really appreciate the warm and personal greeting on our arrival each time.
We go to the Bee and Thistle a few times a month because it is consistently excellent. A number of people in our family get the cod every single time because it’s the best we’ve had anywhere. The service is always attentive, but never too much. I highly recommend Bee & Thistle.
It had been a couple years since we dined here and still as good as I remember. Lovely service, didn’t feel rushed. Love the ambience.
Outstanding evening! Arrived at 6pm,didn't leave table until 9:45pm. Not rushed, made to feel very welcomed. Dinner courses were served spaced out to allow conversation in between. The food was cooked to perfection, the cocktails mixed to perfection, the hostess, barmaid, waitstaff all very pleasant, helpful, cheerful and wonderful to interact with. Can't wait for our next visit!
Parking was an issue due to live entertainment in the lounge. However we had a great table and very much enjoyed the music venue. Simply Phred was excellent! Only negative was the limited entree selections.
The Bee is our favorite local spot. Sometimes they are busy and sometimes not, but any time it is a lovely place to spend the evening.
We love this place. Always friendly and exceptional service, not to mention the food
Always a beautiful place to dine. The charm factor is a 5 and the service is attentive and very professional. The menu is not changed up very often and lacks inventiveness which prevents us from going frequently as we live nearby. The food however was cooked perfectly and presented nicely. I’d like to see more locally sourced foods. Lyme/old Lyme has a ton of farms where the food could be sourced. They are GF friendly. A bottle of Perrier was $11 for the table. You can go to the big y and get it for $1.89, so quite a mark up.
This is the best meal that we’ve ever had in CT!! I’ve always loved the Bee and Thistle, but this meal was PEEFECTION! We started out with the wedge salad, and my fiancé and I are fine sharing a plate, but the chef kindly split the salad for us without us needing to request it. Then we had the salmon, accompanied by wild mushroom risotto and braised cabbage and the filet entree with mashed potatoes and vegetable. Everything came out very hot and all at the same temperature - this is not our usual dining out experience, and we were very impressed!
Our table was amazing and our server, Lexie, is a ray of sunshine, just full of kindness and excellent service. We loved every part of our dining experience!
The Bee and Thistle was a wonderful find. My husband and I love to experience new to us places. The Bee and Thistle was a magnificent find for us. The staff were wonderful, they were genuinely interested in making sure we were satisfied with every part of our meal. The ambiance is beautiful, the character of the Inn makes for a nice relaxing dinner experience.
We have eaten here often and this was the best of all the meals we have experienced. Truly the best combination of dishes prepared in the most superb way. Kudos to the chef on this Valentine’s masterpiece
