This is a great place to share a special dinner. In our case, it was a delayed Valentine's Day dinner. This Inn has such a romantic warmth and feel. The food is exquisite. And the service makes you feel very special.
Place was packed, the host jumped in to help our waitress who was in the weeds!
Seated immediately. Nice wine list. The online food menu did not reflect the menu that was handed to us. Smoked trout appetizer was delicious, with a lot of trout! My Sweet potato gnocchi were great. Perfect consistency, large portion, very flavorful mushrooms. Wy wife's filet was cooked perfectly. A little sparse on the root vegetables. Bread pudding was flavorful, and not too heavy. One downside were the long intervals between service. We had already finished our coffee when the desserts finally came. Similar delay between asking for the check and finally receiving it. Maybe understaffed on a Saturday evening??
Delicious lobster bisque, arugula salad, salmon, and chocolate tort desert. Service impeccable. Ambiance romantic!
The Bee and Thistle Inn has a reputation of one of the most romantic restaurants in CT. While the food and service were good, it did not strike me as romantic, especially since we booked far in advance for Valentine's Day. It was a Friday night and there was no live music (they used to have a harpist) only piped music that was not very romantic. I was somewhat disappointed with the evening.
Perfect Valentine’s Day dinner! Best filet I have had in a LONG time!
Valentine's Day at the Bee and Thistle is special to us since we were married there 8 years ago. As always, the staff is wonderful, place is gorgeous and romantic and the food delicious. Can't beat if for a romantic dinner.
Great food. Excellent service
A warm fire, cozy surroundings, pleasing light level, lively but not loud noise, comfortable chairs, good food, excellent service.... Altogether a very pleasant experience.
Food was creative, tasty and served hot and all together. One minor complaint, the tile floor was very cold. The atmosphere leaves one feeling luxurious as you pass through stuffed couches and a live fire into a full window porch. A very pleasant experience and evening.
My sister and I were in from New York for the weekend and picked this restaurant based on reviews. We could not have been more pleased. The ambiance was quintessential New England. So cozy and inviting on a stormy January night. We were greeted by the manager John who gave us a brief history of the beautiful inn and helped us select the perfect wine for our dinner. My sister ordered the cod and I had the salmon. The fish was cooked to perfection and the sides of risotto and farro were delicious. Our waitress could not have been lovelier. We will definitely come back.
A great experience. We have also done tea there and had a similar great time. Excellent food.
lovely place for a special meal. The staff was helpful and atmosphere lovely. We hit it on a very quiet post holiday evening.
Lovely staff. Excellent food. Perfect time.
New Years Eve
Charming and delicious! We loved our NYE dinner.
Wonderful evening. Pre-New Years celebration with the in-laws. Staff couldn’t have been nicer. We had a lovely table for 5 by the fireplace. Been there before and always enjoyed it, but this was the best food we’ve ever had there. Our family all had the saddle of lamb which was cooked to perfection. In-laws has Salmon and veal chop. Our daughter substituted the cheese plate listed as an appetizer for dessert which was a brilliant idea.
It’s a long ride for us, but totally worth it. I wish it was closer but the ambience is so lovely it’s hard to resist it.
A very quiet and romantic dinner. Limited menu, food was good. Our server was very good and friendly.
The food was delicious. The staff noticed without my saying that I was not 100% comfortable physically at the table where we were initially seated and they suggested a different table which was a perfect fit for our long legs . Impressive that they noticed subtle clues. The holiday decorations were lovely and all fireplaces were lit and cozy. And importantly as stated first, the food was absolutely delicious. We each ordered different starters, entrees and deserts and all were excellent.
A lovely spot particularly at Christmas. Well decorated and pleasant fireplaces. But then.....the food and cost. Very expensive, and not very good. I had one veal chop for $48. The other 3 of our guests had slightly less expensive choices but equally poor quality. Also very few choices on the menu, but perhaps they had to do that for Christmas Eve.
A pretty country inn with mediocre food and service. Expected more for $100. Dollars a person. I should have known better when I saw chicken entree for $31. Never again
My only suggestion is that your bar offers Chopin Vodka & Tito's Vodka as both are very popular right now and high end.
Such a lovely experience for their holiday tea. We didn't feel rushed and service was fantastic.
We met friends for a holiday dinner. The setting was beautiful, the food delicious and the service excellent. Attentive without being excessive. We did not feel rushed or under pressure to leave. It was a beautiful evening.
I really wanted to love it but the waitress was not present and the food wasn’t anything special. Neither plate was even hot when it arrived at the table and getting a drink at a stadium is easier and faster. Too bad I miss the old days when you went to a place like this and it was top notch. These folks are just putting in the hours and the lack of passion for the food or the patrons is apparent.
We eat at Bee and Thistle almost every time we are in the area and have enjoyed it each time. The food is excellent. We especially like sitting in the breakfast room because it is more intimate with the fireplace going at this time of year. We were surprised when we got there to hear the entertainment. It made the evening for us. Thank you so much for having a great restaurant!!
Wow what a little gem, food, athmospere and service absolut top notch
Per & Anne-Charlotte
Wonderful food. Also, wonderful place to have a wedding or a special event.
The last time I ate at The Bee and Thistle Inn was 30+ yrs. ago. It's just as terrific now as I remembered it. I won't wait so long to return.
Everything was great - the food, service and ambiance.
I highly recommend it.
Wonderful Holiday experience!
Food and Service outstanding and not at all rushed.
Will be back!
Everything about our evening at the Vantassel was lovely. Beautifully decorated, excellent service and the music was a nice touch
Amazing food. Great atmosphere
Wow the food was outstanding! The servers were the most down to earth friendly people. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. The Live music was fantastic. We can’t wait to go back.
It’s always a treat eating at The Bee and Thistle Inn. Great food, great service. The staff is always warm and friendly. In addition, you can have a conversation without raising your voice because of the quiet, refined atmosphere.
Good food as always and enjoyed speaking with Chef Kris........a very nice gentleman.
Fun night with out of town friends who were celebrating their 60th Anniversary.
We had a lovely meal . Service was excellent, the inn is always lovely. The menu is quite limited, but what is served is done exceptionally well. The wine list has something for everyone. We had the lamb and the salmon and both were done exactly as requested. Sides were creative and delicious. The all star was a brioche, fig bread pudding....oh my!
Came here to dine as my husband had find remembrances from years ago. The restaurant has definitely seen better days . The waitress was very inept. The worst ever was when she delivered our bread, not wrapped in a napkin so it slid to the side of the basket so she took her entire bare hand and pressed it in the basket in front of us. The wind was not poured tableside and the glasses were not poured to regulation pour. The food was totally bland. The cod was completely tasteless. The experience was nothing short of terrible. We dined at two other places in town of much higher quality and better pricing.
Lovely atmosphere, food and service. Our favorite for a special night out.
Outstanding establishment! From the staff to the atmosphere to the amazing meal, our experience was top notch! We were also fortunate to meet and have drinks with the owner which was a special treat. Its no wonder this place is so amazing when the owners themselves are such great people!!
