Place overpriced, not clean at all, food is very average,I won’t go again.
Great food presented in an original and entertaining fashion. I was lucky to have great table companions so we had a great evening and our chef was a maestro.
The worst food ever, tasted like cardboard. We ended up ordering Pizza Hut once we left.
Food was great! Will certainly go again and bring my friends!
The food was excellent. Our server seemed to forget about us, but the chef was great. We didn't like the noise level - way too loud. Dessert option was basically ice cream. Also, we like a more leisurely dinner while Benihanna moves things along at their pace.
The filet and lobster were amazing. Definitely dont get the scallops. They are so bad and all the other hibachi places do them much better. The scallops are always over cooked and rubbery. A great happy hour here as well. The only disappointment was the scallops and service since you wait and wait to get help and pay the bill.
I SO LOVE THIS PLACE! AWESOME SERVICE AND AMAZING FOOD FOR AL AGES!
I mostly visit on Friday or Saturday for dinner and I'm never disappointed. Perfect food and experience EVERYTIME!!!! Make your reservations today!
I am very disappointed with the service and food at this Benihana location in Bethesda! I was there to celebrate my birthday and was completely underwhelmed. The food portions were small and bland for the amount of money being spent and the servers working my party did not even sing me happy birthday as everyone at other tables around me were made to feel special. I am sad to say this experience pretty much ruined my birthday and I made it a point to celebrate there with my family as in the past we've been treated well and the food tasted a lot better! I ordered the Benihana Trio and I didn't get the appropriate portion of shrimp as they were sliced in thirds to make it seem more abundant. For the amount of money spent, I expect WHOLE shrimp and not for them to be minced. I even got a gift card to dine there again as a present, I think I'll choose a different location next time.
I was so excited to share my friends first hibachi with them. Instead of a fun experience we go two “tricks” - a beating heart and a volcano - and none of the camaraderie, jokes, interaction or fun at other hibachi restaurants. No egg roll, no catching shrimp in the mouth, no egg shells in the hat, nothing from the regular routine. Instead the chef dropped his knives and had to leave the station 3 times to go to the kitchen, and it took way longer than normal to cook. My friends were underwhelmed and I was let down that their first experience was so lackluster. I’ll stick with sakura.
New Chef on board. He is very nice and talkative with customers. Sad part is he forgets he is cooking and sizzles the food a bit to long. Overall experience was great!
Good experience as expected. Not happy that fried rice is no longer part of the meal without upcharge
Great daddy-daughter date. Particular positive shout out to Chef Gomez.
We've been celebrating our son's birthday at Benihana for years. In my opinion, the whole experience has gone downhill over time. The service was terrible. It took a long time for someone to come over and take orders. When they did, they took our drink order at the same time as our food order. We started getting food before the drinks arrived. We were solely disappointed by our chef. I used to be impressed about the consistent experience and "show". Chefs must be receiving less training these days. We know the drill and all the tricks. Our chef caught the flaming volcano (made out of onions) on fire, messed up the order from someone in our party, and was extremely slow. The family we were sitting with gave up and took home their entrees. Our bill for four adults was not inexpensive. While the food is good, I felt like the experience did not warrant the price. I'm hoping to convince my son to go elsewhere next year.
I went to Benihana in Bethesda for my one-year anniversary dinner and I had a moderately decent time. I ordered the hibachi shrimp and my husband ordered the steak. I got a decent amount of shrimp, however, when he was served his steak there was about 1/2 the amount of steak as there was shrimp. On another note, this isn't about the restaurant as a whole just my experience, my hibachi chef was extremely unentertaining. He only did one trick and that was the onion tower that you light on fire. He actually had to redo it because he cooked the onions for too long and they were burnt to a crisp. The whole reason that we decided to go to Benihaha was for the dinner and a show. It was completely lackluster and a waste of our money. I would recommend going to this restaurant however, not all of their chefs are as entertaining as others.
We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation time even though we arrived on time. It took a long time to get drinks and put in our order. Our hibachi chef was good. The rest of the table service was fair. I had to wait a long time for the check at the end.
Had a wonderful time celebrating a birthday Will come again
What can I say? It's Benihana, where cooking your food in front of you is entertainment, and you share your table with other diners. Lots of theatrics, including flipping discarded shrimp tails in the air and catching them on top of the chef's hat or in his pocket. There's also the famous onion volcano, where he separates the onion rings and stacks them into a volcano shape, then pours oil and alcohol in the top and sets it on fire! Flames and smoke shoot out of the hole, and the chef dimmed the lights so we could see it better. There was a little boy at our table who had stepped away for a minute, and when he found out he missed the volcano, he cried. :( His family asked the chef to do it again, and he kindly obliged. :)
The cooking is plenty noisy, with lots of banging of implements, but it is still easy to have a conversation. Servers sang happy birthday to me, but they asked if I wanted them to first, which I thought was nice. A bit pricey for the quality of the food, but remember that you're paying for the show, too.
Poor service, very dirty. Feet stick to the floor kinda place.
The chef and waitress were both fantastic!! Service was on point and timely. The chef cooked the food perfect!
Service was slow, but cook was great and fast.
I had a reservation but was not seated for 15 minutes. After being seated, it took another 50minutes before the chef came by. The waitress apologized stating that they were short staffed. The waitress was friendly enough and offered to give us some shrimp tempura for our wait. I politely declined. Drink orders during the 50 minute wait took forever. In fact, they arrived just a few minutes before the chef The Chef did a fine job (Gomez was his name), but it ended up being over a 2 hour meal and every step of the way including the bill took way too long.
The restaurant has gotten tired over the years. It needs a deep cleaning too. All of which I have dealt with and am ok with if the service was even average.
Went for my birthday, had a great time and I really enjoyed myself. Thanks a lot
Great service and food - had a great time! The Chef was very entertaining.
The quality at BENIHANA has drastically declined. On this particular evening, Tuesday, July 10, it was very busy. The waiter did not know much of anything, like how the birth day coupons works or what was included with a particular dish. He was clearly overwhelmed as we could see him drowning in quick sand, (there was one other party at our table) and we rarely even saw him. My husband and I got up several times to serve ourselves for forks, napkins, a wine chiller and even drinks (so did the other party). As far as the taste/quality of the food, the salad dressing was obviously watered down as well as the soy sauce. I know bc I have been a patron of BENIHANA since 1998. In addition, while at the bar waiting on the wine chiller, as I was talking to the bartender, the hostess came out of nowhere and just started talking to her, never even saying excuse me. I gave the experience 1 star and that was only bc the manager was as accommodating as she could be, but it was obvious that she herself was drowning.
Visit at your own risk.
Had a new cook who got our order completely wrong. Had to wait for new Cook... more time wasted.
There were no comps for inconvenience. Had to ask for $9.80 beverage as comp. but there were two of us. Probably won’t be visiting any time soon
Hubby and I were kids free! We didn’t want the hassle of the hibachi table to we sat by the sushi bar! It was perfect for some overdue quality time.
Food is still good but service is going down. Very sad, kids love this place.
Very loud. So loud they got my husband’s order wrong. Food was good though.
The hosts and the bartenders were sweet but the overall experience for this location is poor. It's not worth the money anymore.
It was warm the people were friendly the food was delicious.
Benihana was perfect for our family of 7 - 4 grandkids to celebrate good grades. The grillmaster was efficient and entertaining. Of particular note --- we have one grandson with a severe peanut / egg allergy. The grillmaster was very careful to explain that he uses no peanut oil etc. in cooking. He was extremely careful in keeping this one child's food segregated from the other food containing eggs etc. The waitress was very attentive to his needs as well. And, additionally, their attention was low key etc. so as not to embarrass him. VERY WELL DONE. It was a fun night for all and we have memories and photos we'll treasure.
Easier to say nothing was good
Everyone that i know has hyped up Benihana for a very long time. For my first experience, i was not that impressed. It took the hostess about 10-15 min to greet us and it was not that many people in there on a late Sunday night. Our server was ok; although he only came around to check on us like every 25-30 min. The presentation of the food is what got me. The cook put way too much oil to cook the food and it looked oily and burned due to it being on the fire top to long. then it was no presentation of the food just thrown on the plate. I prefer the other hibachi places. this was not as i thought it would be.
I received a Benihana’s gift certificate, and my husband and I were excited to go there for the first time — even though the restaurant is a 45 minute drive from Baltimore. We were seated promptly and the server took our order within 15 minutes of being seated. However, it was an hour later when the chef came to “cook” our food. At least two tables that were seated after us, were taken care of before ours. The food was good, but this very long wait was unacceptable, and made the entire experience a disappointing one.
I just have not been impressed the last two times I’ve gone. It’s just ok.
I love Benihana favorite restaurant ever
The food was great. Chef Martinez did a fantastic job and I can’t wait until I return.
We waited 35 minutes for our cook to arrive. Service was poor, we were in a group already seated but the waitress ignored us, I had no refills because she just ignore our table. After the cook arrived and our meal was prepared and we ate, we had to wait another 15 minutes to get our check. The waitress simply took her sweet time and walked past us numerous times until we had to go talk to her Also, her nails were long and unhygienic.
