Benihana restaurant in London’s Piccadilly offers a truly unique dining experience. The show-stopping chefs with their dancing knives and witty banter originated in New York in the 60’s and Behihana’s culinary experience has been enjoyed by more than 100 million diners worldwide. Each of Behinana’s large shared table enjoys its own dedicated chef who prepares a light, delicious, many-coursed Japanese meal teppan-yaki style before your eyes while entertaining you with samurai knife skills and a stream of charming patter. You can choose from several kinds of steak, chicken, or seafood and let the chef take care of the rest. Meals at Benihana are terrific fun for families, groups of friends and outings for work teams as well as easy first-date venues. The décor is modern Japanese, smart and minimalist. Service is charming and, if sushi is always part of your Japanese meal, Benihana’s sushi is an excellent example of authentic Japanese cuisine.

AVOID! Customer service was appalling. I booked two tables and requested to be seated together. I called up to check they had received my request and was advised this would be honored and was noted.
On the day of our booking- I received a phone call where I was informed that unless I came much later - they could not honor my booking!- which was not possible as there were many children attending. ON MY WEDDING DAY- HOURS BEFORE.
The manager was rude, laughed and belittling. They were aware it was our wedding meal- they made my wedding day extremely stressful and when we turned up, we were not sure we were going to be able to sit together. I would of cancelled but this all occurred on the day of and left me with no option but to chance it. Where else was going to take my dinner reservation for 16 people at such short notice?
We have been many times before but wont ever attend this restaurant again due to the bad customer service provided.
The chef as usual was accommodating, funny and friendly- and the food was generally decent but the cocktails were appalling. Standards are low.

I don´t understand why you are writing the tip on the bill before asking the guest. All of us were very surprised and changed the amount before paying.
The chef wasn´t so polite when we left Benihana

This restaurant should be named Beni-haha, because they're having a laugh charging higher end prices for below-par teppanyaki-style cooking.

We booked a 'monthly offer' via OpenTable, but could not find anything on the Benihana website saying what we'd get — and now I can see why. The offer is described as a 'six-course' meal with a choice of two proteins: steak, chicken, pork or prawn and a few mushrooms for your 'main'. What you get is watery onion soup, a salad that would serve as a garnish in your average gastro pub, bland barbecued prawns, followed by your choice of two equally bland grilled proteins. Puddings are a couple of scoops of industrial ice-cream with chocolate sauce. Total cost of the ingredients is probably less than a tenner.

On arrival we were shown to our table and were able to order drinks as we waited for enough diners to arrive for the chef to start the floorshow. We wanted sushi to start, but Benihani is conveyor-belt dining and there is no opportunity to place food orders before orders are taken for the special offer meal. Everything is timed for the kitchen and staff, not the paying customers, which is a bit rich when you're paying £35 a head.

Not realising Benihana doesn't do 'starters', we ordered a sushi combo and endamame 'to start'. When the first food finally arrived it was a lukewarm onion soup. We explained we wanted the sushi first, but the waitress said the kitchen couldn't time 'starters' to arrive at the start of the meal. So, we said we'd cancel the order — and miraculously it became possible to check and our sushi arrived. The waitress said she would take the soup back to reheat when we'd finished our sushi— but that never happened.

Benihana is not about food, it's about the performance of cooking the food — and this bit is entertaining with lots of banging, juggling and photo-opportunities. But if you want a decent Japanese barbecue, try Sen Nin in Islington.

That was the worst experience i ever had at a restaurant. My reservation was 2030 i phoned the restaurant and ask for early booking since i was around piccadily we agreed to change my res from opentable, i did and we arrived at 1800 and sit them surprisingly after we ate starters (sushi s was terrible) waiter said we have to left in 45 minutes since restaurant is full. We did not order anything , we just asked bill and nobody asked why.never again

I arrived for our booked table on time whilst my friend was about 10 min late. I expected to be able to go to our table but was told we can only be seated if both of us are there and I would have to wait at the small bar area. The person at the entrance was not very friendly and acted as if I should be grateful she is letting me in at all. This despite the restaurant being pretty much empty with lots of seats available (this was midweek late lunch time), whilst the small bar area was crowded with people ordering takeout, so not very comfortable.
The food was mediocre. Nothing specific one could complain about, it arrived as ordered (we had the 5 course meal), but everything tasted quite bland and clearly used cheap ingredients.
Overall I don’t think I would visit again.

Took my sister here for her birthday and it was a great experience. Our chef Errol was entertaining.

We should have been offered the usual manue along side the party menu. As we had never been here before we thought the party menu was our only option. Ended up spending £90 for two people!!

Overall it was nice but definitely ask for their usual menu to get a better variety of food!!

It was OK , not too busy so was surprised to be placed on a table with a couple ( there were 6 of us). Nothing bad but nothing outstanding is probably the best way to describe it. Didn't come away thinking I would go back.

Was an amazing, calm yet exciting place to celebrate my birthday! Would recommend for casual and occasion dinner as its so relaxed but still so classy. I love the chef presence and their communication, everything about this restaurant is really nice and welcoming. Considering the location and that the chef cooks and serves food at your table, the prices for food and drinks are very reasonable and affordable!

It was a fun experience watching the chef cooking in front of you and the service was very good. Food was yummy (steak or cod is highly recommended) with decent portion. It won't come with a cheap price tag but it's definitely a must try! :)

We celebrated my boyfriend's birthday with a lunch at Benihana. The staff were welcoming and friendly throughout the visit. Our chef, Andrew, gave us a fun and friendly performance with great food, and we were well looked after by Mina, who surprised us with a special dessert and got the staff to serenade the birthday boy in both English and Japanese. Seems pricey but there are a lot of side dishes included and it is even better value foodwise at lunch. Would definitely recommend.

We have been to the restaurant on a few occasions during the last year. We have always had a great time - lovely food and great entertainment with the chef performing whilst cooking the food. The children particularly have loved it.
On this occasion however our chef was not so experienced and so his 'fun time' was not so good as we have had before and we ended up getting that enjoyment by watching the talented chef on the other table nearby, which was a shame.
Will definitely go back but will request an experienced chef next time as it made a difference to our meal this last time and it was disappointing as it was our daughter's birthday lunch and she had asked to go to this restaurant as she really loves Benihana's.

For a restaurant with such high reviews I was truly disappointed. The worst part of the experience was definitely the front desk ladies, they were like little witches just miserable and giving off such unfriendly aura.

If you want great tasting food, I would recommend somewhere else. The food is pretty bland and boring.

However one of the positives was definitely the chef, great energy and witty banter made us chuckle.

Front desk personnel are devoid of charm and could practice smiling occasionally. They make you feel like a bit of an inconvenience and churn you though the system as quickly as possible. Started with a very average luminous green cocktail with a plastic cherry advertised as an "apple martini" and highly recommended on the menu...really?!
Given its a pricey affair - just shy of £150 for 2 - and that was on the monthly special menu, we expected more pampering and entertainment. Food was tasty but nothing special and our chef appeared to be going through the motions.
Atmosphere was akin to an upmarket fast food joint and the bill was presented as soon as we had finished desert and without waiting for us to request it even though the place wasn't full. Underwhelming experience and won't be going back.

Food was great - portions a little small . we went for the £35 Set Menu. They offered us ( Egg fried rice as an extra price - "watch out as Plain rice is included- but that wasn't given to us") and we were charged for the Egg fried rice but were not given the plain rice.

Overall - food was great but portions were small.

Great ambience.

It was fine. Not wonderful, just fine. For a quiet night Service was okay. Food good, but way overpriced for what it was. Have eaten in better, cheaper Japanese barbecue restaurants with far more character than this.

For an 18th birthday meal, it was frankly underwhelming!

I have been to benihanas Piccadilly many times in my life, for ten years. Due to the tepanyaki style cooking and the theatre experience from the the chefs entertainment. I absolutely love the food! On this particular occasion, it was my birthday, and I could not compliment this restaurant enough to my friends. However, Upon arrival, we were greeted with the most inhospitable host, a front of house person who had carried a sour pus face, whilst greeting you. Perplex? Yes, I was too! Asking us for our coats, then tutting when we gave them to her. We were then served by another rude girl who rushed through our order, then was never to be seen when we needed more service. The last straw, was when my friends and I retrieved our coats, the so call host and another assistant handed them to us, they exchanged looks and sniggered. I asked my friend why they were sniggering, to which she replied, they were laughing at my coat!
I have been going to this restaurant for ten years, and I was disgusted by this treatment. I feel so bad, as I love their food and love the theatrical style of the chef cooking and entertaining, makes you feel special (ironically) seeing your food being made right before you. But unfortunately, the service staff has 100% let it down. Even if you wanted a Caucasian person to greet you, at least teach her to pronounce ‘hello’ in Japanese properly. Inspite of the service, I always have come back and enjoyed many celebrations here over the years. But after this incident, I will never return, as I will never accept anyone putting down my friends or myself, like that.
Such a shame! I sincerely hope they can sought out their service staff. What a waste of a good restaurant.
On the up side, if you can bear with poor service, do ask for lloyd as your chef, as he put a smile on our faces, regardless of all the acrimony from the staff and the so call greeting host.
