Nice shabby-chic decor, good selection of drinks, and the food was good, but let down by incredibly slow service. 2.5hrs for a quick meal for two is not really okay. I wouldn't mind if we were really drawing it out, but we weren't - there were just massive gaps between courses. If they can sort out the turnaround time in the kitchen then I would definitely be back, but if not I would give it a miss.

I used to eat at Ben's Canteen regularly but have since moved out of the area...so I was very keen to return when I went back to Clapham Junction. It didn't disappoint, still delicious food, good service and cool decor. Recommend.

Ben's canteen used to be a place where myself and my cousin used to regularly meet for a catch up over some delicious American Diner style food. However as soon as we walked into the restaurant we knew something had changed. Firstly the wall hangings had been taken down making the whole place feel soulless. We were shown to our table but I later received a no show email from Open Table. We looked at the menu which used to focus on burgers and now only had 4/5 options. We desperately searched the menu for our favourite dish the duck nuggets but there were no longer there and its place were 'duck and ginger balls'. This is where the disappointment began. The waitress came over to take our order and she had to keep checking the menu to see what we were referring to. She had no knowledge of the menu and couldn't answer a single one of our queries. We enjoyed a glass of wine whilst we were waiting for our food. To our surprise our burgers came before our starters. We asked the waitress why this had happened and she replied saying they were 'sharing plates' not 'starters'. However, on the menu there is a section of starter/sharing plates. She should have asked if we wanted them as starters or together with the burgers. When the food was bought we told her said wanted our starters first she was very rude and stormed off. One of the starters we ordered was on the original menu (chicken pieces) was served completely differently, before it had slices of succulent chicken with a selection of sauces but now in its place was 3 small dry pieces of chicken with 2 pots of disappointing sauces. The other two starters we ordered were equally as disappointing. When we tucked into our burgers they were overcooked and not pink how they previously used to be served. I approached one of the managers who I recognised from our previous visits and told him my feedback, I was disappointed to learn it was his final night. This was the icing on the cake and I can say that I won't be returning.

Tucked away from the main hussle, this place was buzzing. Perfect for a Saturday chilled brunch although some might find the noise levels a little high. Food was excellent and the service was spot on.
Worth a visit if you just want a chilled brunch in a relaxed setting.

Had wanted to try Ben's Canteen for a long time and decided to arrange a brunch catch up with a friend. Unfortunately this place disappointed, the coffee was nice but the food was mediocre. The staff were extremely unfriendly, rushing to get you in and out and seemed put out when you asked for anything. Not a nice atmosphere to sit and enjoy a brunch, will not be returning.

We had a friendly enough reception and were fairly well looked after by the staff. However there was no real sense that anyone cared if we enjoyed our food or not. I had requested a small side of avocado with my poached eggs which they were nice enough to oblige with, however when it came the eggs were nicely cooked but the avocado was so cold it had obviously just come straight out of the fridge and made quite a horrible contrast alongside the eggs. I was really surprised that a chef would do that.

My friend found that her scrambled eggs were not very warm and her avocado also was freezing cold.

Another issue was the very loud dance music which was quite stressful if you're trying to catch up with a friend on a relaxed Sunday morning.

This place was friendly enough but I wouldn't go back due to the above reasons.

Environment was just too loud, we were a group of friends catching up on a Sunday a and we just felt like we were shouting over each other throughout! Couldnt wait to leave! We sat at the back, so maybe that was the louder end of the cafe? Food was tasty though and service was fine although becuase of the racket, it was quite hard to order. And my friend thought that for the price, the burgers should have come with chips.

It was ok. The food was nothing special, the service was slow, and it was expensive (£19 for a burger, fries and a coke!). The company was great, and the environment (and lack of attentive service) meant we had a good chance to catch up! Won’t rush back.

Lovely seating outside in the sun on a quiet but vibrant street. Waiter was lovely and very polite. Drinks were excellent, tastiest Bloody Mary I have had in London. Food was good and tasty, expensive though. Unfortunately only one person’s came out, and we had to remind the waiter that the other person had also ordered food. Person 1 had finished their meal when second meal eventually came out. Waiter was apologetic

Friendly staff, ok food and nice laid back and relaxing atmosphere.
I would not put it in the list of top London places to go for a Brunh.
Nice enough place to go but over priced for what it is in terms of both quality and quantity.

We went today to have brunch me and my husband, I must said I was excited because I heard very good things about this place. Overall the food was good, a little bit pricey, but tasty, but the service wasn’t good at all. Our main waitress looked like she won’t to be there at all, she sat us on the table, no smile or greeting , nothing, she took the order like a robot, she never came to check on us to see if everything was ok, she removed the plates without saying a word, my husband tried to engaged in a conversation with her saying how tasty was the food, she didn’t even replied, she took the payment and left. The place was pretty empty, so no excuse of at least, a minimum customer service. Even if the food was nice, I doubt we are going to come back.

The guy that welcomed us was the only positive thing about our visit, kindly made some adjustments so my dad could have more leg room as the table layout is very snug to say the least he was a very nice guy. But that’s where it ends unfortunately the waitress was new and didn’t have a clue what she was doing. Kept walking off to check every time we asked for some thing.
My brother and my dad got a cheeseburger that cost about £10 without chips (WOW!!) I got the chicken benidict which was nice apart from the tooth breaking burnt toast underneath. Advocado and feta was nice. Sweet potato chips were caked in salt. £80 bill for brunch for 3 definitely not worth the money so most likely won’t be going back to that particular branch ever again unfortunately.

Had an excellent time last Sunday- celebrated a friend’s baby shower brunch here and the staff were extremely accommodating even though we had a big party, had to wait for a few people to arrive and brought our own cake. Had a lovely long meal with lots of nice drinks and the service couldn’t have been better. Brunch was delicious and a great drink selection- genuinely something for everyone. Thoroughly recommend if you’re in Clapham J. Thanks!

Service is second to none! We went for brunch and ordered the sweetcorn and courgette fritters. They weren’t to our liking - all greasy batter and little filling. The manager came over to ask how the food was because he noticed we had left a lot. We said everything on the plate was delicious except we weren’t keen on the fritters themselves. He seemed disappointed and, unprompted, knocked them both off the bill. You don’t get that very often in London!
