Service was terrible. Staff rude, miserable and unhelpful. Booked table in advance. Had to wait 45 minutes to order and even then had to ask for someone to take it. They then asked us to move tables as they had a group coming in and needed our (pre-booked) table. The table they wanted us to move to hadn’t even be cleaned. They were in such a rush to move us that they mixed all our drinks around and took some away. We had to ask for them to be returned! The pancakes were a real let-down with minimal toppings. Had to call someone over to ask for more syrup. Nobody was interested in checking if the food was ok. They then added a service charge to the bill!!
Very average, brunch menu is very un-exciting and not very flexible in terms of add-ons and extras. Also, quite expensive for what it really is.
Poached eggs were overcooked, unfortunately.
If you are vegan - there arent many options and all pretty boring.
Great place for brunch. The service was excellent and our server was really friendly. We stayed quite a while but didn’t feel rushed to leave like in some places. Food was also delicious - definitely recommend! The only downside (if I had to come up with one!) was we were sat quite near the door and so it gets very cold! This ended up being the reason we left because we had to sit in our coats - otherwise we probably would have stayed longer and had a few more drinks:
Food was delicious best brunch I have had, very flavoursome and highly recommend the has browns they are the best I’ve ever eaten!
Lovely food but an extremely rude waitress ruined the whole experience. Staff kept coming to our table trying to pick our plates even though we were still eating. On top of that, one of the waitress complained, kind of loudly, about us occupying the table for too long even though we kept ordering food.
The food, drinks and ambiance at Ben’s Canteen is great. I have been here several times with no problems. However, on my last visit my friends and I (table of 3) were left waiting an hour for our food and had to keep going up to the bar area to enquire about our meals’ whereabouts, where we were told it was ‘on its way’ only to sit for another 10 minutes with no update. When the food finally arrived we asked for condiments but no one brought them so had to make another trip to the bar to ask for them. The manager was very apologetic and took the meals off our bill, which I fully expected, but it did put a damper on our evening and meant we had to run for our train from there. Disappointing. I’m hoping this was just a one-off bad night because otherwise I have always had good experiences.
Lovely brunch and glad I booked as they were fully booked. Best breakfast around!
The food was delicious and as a vegan-ish person I had loads of choice. The staff were lovely, super helpful and friendly. Would recommend for sure.
I was very excited to try Ben’s Canteen. I had heard such great things about the Earlsfield branch. Unfortunately I felt let down. After making my first order, I was told they had none left. I then selected the steak. I was so disappointed as the cut they had used was so chewy (like one of usecfirvslow cooking). I sent this vs k and ordered something else which was nice. When the bill came, my steak order had not been removed. I had to complain again! I feel that after all this I should have been offered a good will discount or something but no one even camevti me to discuss my terrible steak!
Myself and 3 friends visited on Saturday to celebrate a birthday. We were served by Sandra who was lovely. She went out of her way to make it special for our friend by arranging a birthday brownie to be sent to the table. She topped our drinks up and even gave us a warning when it was about to finish so we could have one last drink. The only criticism we had wasn’t with the food or service, but we were slightly cold sitting by the open door and we also thought the bottomless brunch was for 2 hours as it’s not entirely clear online that there’s 2 different ones. Overall, a lovely experience and would definitely come back!
The food and the service were both fantastic. I can't wait to go back!
Great food, very attentive service. Lovely place to go for brunch.
Good food and great service. We enjoyed the atmosphere here too. It’s always busy on the weekend but Friday mornings are perfect!
Made a reservation on Opentable with 2 course and a drink for 18 pounds. We indicated to one of the waiters that is what we were going to have. When the bill came they charged us for 3 course meal stating a glass of wine was a course... I indicated to them that is not what is on your website, they said they changed their menu and wouldn't honour my reservation (2 course + 1 drink at 18). On top of that, that night and the next day was terribly ill. Not only is the service crap but the food is not good. DO NOT GO !
Noisy but cozy
The food was really good, but I've now been here twice recently and I found the service rather poor, they weren't accommodating at all and were borderline rude sadly, shame because the food is worth a visit.
Have been a wee bit hesitant to go back since it became so popular. Thank goodness I did!! Gordon was an absolute delight - really fab to meet someone in the industry who actually cares about the guest. Sandra, a nurse as well as working here was so chatty and lovely! I have re fallen in love with Ben’s and the management should be proud to have them on their team. Thank you
Love Ben's Canteen! The food is different and delicious!
It was a great Sunday brunch, helped by the fact that the sun was also shining. The front part of this restaurant is much nicer with a lot of natural light. Food was good and arrived quite quickly but it took forever to get the bill, which was funny. I would however not recommend the pancakes. I found them underwhelming.
Great staff, good food and fun place to meet friends
No complaints! Great food, friendly service and a nice atmosphere. Good value for money, (even better if you have a Tastecard - and no hassle whatsoever)
We went for dinner on Saturday evening and it was far too loud - couldn’t hear friends sitting right next to me. Staff were apologetic however I will not be going back for an evening meal.
Always love coming to Ben’s - the Bloody Mary is worth the trip alone!
Great food and atmosphere. Shame the service let it down. Always hovering at the end of the meal making us feel pressure to leave and one server had to ask another one to take our order again even after they’d already taken it - not quite sure what was going on! Would go back for the food and just make sure you’re not in a rush!
Really lovely atmosphere, great food and fab service. Really good selection on the brunch menu - our party of 6 were all being a bit difficult with tweaking what they had on the menu (poached egg instead of scrambled etc), but they were totally happy to accommodate and everything came out perfectly. Would definitely recommend (and already have) and will certainly be back!
I have been wanting to go here for a while albeit for brunch. Went there for dinner instead and it was good but below our expectations. Service was great but the food was nothing I'd recommend.
Picked this place for brunch because it was dog-friendly. Highly recommended if you want to bring your pooch out for a meal—they give em water. Brunch was also delicious.
Great good and really good service - friendly and helpful staff that made our evening event better!
Very friendly relaxed atmosphere
Their Recovery Burger has ruined a certain yellow fast food establishments breakfast muffins for me for life. SO yummy!!
Four of us went for dinner one evening - the place was packed and there were a couple of Christmas parties in, making a HORRENDOUS amount of noise, adults squawking and squealing like toddlers. Now this isn't the fault of Ben's Canteen but it really started to ruin our night as we couldn't speak to each other and even the waiter couldn't hear what we were ordering.
Eventually some space became available at the other end of the restaurant so we moved there and it was a much better atmosphere.
Apart from that......
They only sell one type of cider, of which they didn't actually have any
The food took a VERY long time to come (probably due to the xmas parties so I couldn't say if that was normal)
One of the things I ordered - the topped xmas roasties weren't as described on the menu. They came with no crispy bacon or stuffing, and instead had a few bits of turkey thrown in. I wouldn't have minded if they'd told me they were out of some ingredients (though I'd have chosen something else instead), but they didn't mention it.
The rest of the food was nice enough but nothing spectacular.
The prosecco was really nice
The staff were accommodating and understanding about us moving tables
Would I go back? Most definitely not over the Christmas period. Would perhaps go back some other time, but am in no rush to go back
Service disinterested; noise level unpleasant; Smashed Avo good; eggs (with a different dish) completely overcooked; ground black pepper unavailable
We had a fun time but it was very very loud and quite difficult to get the waitress’ attention / other staff weren’t able to help because they weren’t “our waitress”.
Good variety of brunch food.
Food was a lot worse than I remember, I used to be a regular but it seems to have really suffered since I was last here earlier in the year. The food was average, and the service was terrible.
Great bottomless brunch, attentive service and buzzing atmosphere
Lots of individuals on laptops working, very relaxed and low key. Exceptionally good burger (good meat, perfectly cooked). Good meeting place. Very friendly staff. Casual atmosphere, unpretentious.
Lovely place for an afternoon brunch. We were seated on a high table opposite the bar. Very warm and comfortable, except whenever the smoothie machine was on it was very loud and made conversation quite difficult!
Food was delicious, drinks were great, however service was a little slow.
But overall, a great experience, and we'll definitely be back, but maybe with a table away from the noise!
Relaxed, good place for dinner, friendly staff and good food. Burger was delicious, craft beer was cold. Recommend.
Nice shabby-chic decor, good selection of drinks, and the food was good, but let down by incredibly slow service. 2.5hrs for a quick meal for two is not really okay. I wouldn't mind if we were really drawing it out, but we weren't - there were just massive gaps between courses. If they can sort out the turnaround time in the kitchen then I would definitely be back, but if not I would give it a miss.
Very average and overpriced food, super noisy, won't be back
