Bentley's Oyster Bar & Grill
Offered the chance to restore Bentley’s to its former glory when it came up for sale in 2005, Chef Richard Corrigan embraced the challenge. Once again opening its doors to great critical acclaim serving oysters, fish and seafood in much the same way it has since 1916. Linen-clad tables, a wooden floor and Richard’s art collection adorn the walls creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Bentley's Oyster Bar and Grill also has two beautiful private dining rooms. The Crustacea seats up to 14 and the Swallow Street Rooms, with it's own private bar and street entrance, seats up to 60.

Oysters were sensational. Nice music and lighting. Friendly staff, not particularly helpful with recommendations however. Whole lobster great value but slightly over cooked. All told its a hidden gem, we will certainly be back.
Ordered turbot at cost of 38.50. It came as 200 grams of which at least 150grams were bones. No attempt by restaurant to offer alternative.Just the opposite.Waiter followed by the manager said they could do nothing about it.Is there a bigger rip off in London?
We have eaten here many times in the last 30 years but I’m sad to say it’s no longer what it was and I had to send my main course back as the monkfish wasn’t cooked. The staff were great and replaced the dish but even then I was disappointed given the cost of the dish.
There are so many restaurants to choose from in London that we won’t be returning!
The price of Hot Sharing Platter in open table is 65 pounds but it’s 82 pounds in the restaurant’s menu. But I still ordered that, unfortunately the taste was far away from the price. And I won’t visit this restaurant again.
I've come to Bentley's for 40 years. This last time I found the menu unimaginative and lacking variety. The food I had was ok, but the standards seem to be slipping. Pity.
The Fish Pie is very tasty and well filled. Disappointingly our side order of Greens did not arrive.
Overall a great evening
Really enjoyed the food and selection on the menu Oysters Fantastic
Service very slow waited a age to order wine and some oysters and had to catch the eye several times but a very pleasant waitress
The table next to me had to ask 4 times for the bill and could see that they were anxious which is not good if your last impression of a restaurant on leaving
I would always recommend bentleys as it’s my favourite
Have been going to Bentley's for some 35 years now and it keeps getting better. Just a perfectly grilled Dover Sole with a bottle of Meursault. What an evening!
Great food and service
I had to talk to 3 staff members to finally be seated, 1st staff member I approached disappeared to seat another group that arrived after myself. Waited 25 minutes to be able to make my order. When approachable staff was friendly though.
We came for oysters; 4 out of 6 kinds were not available (in an oysters bar). Ice cubes to cool oysters were melted to 2/3. Taste of oysters was great, though.
Another couple seated close to us engaged in a loud fight. Restaurant manager/ staff did make no attempt to calm that situation. We left after soup.
Full of tourists. Not special. Out of many oysters by 7pm on a Saturday. Few choices in oyster. Crappy service, 8 million waiters but none assigned to your table and none looking at you when you need them. Oh, and the whelks tasted old. Bleh, an oldie gone touristy and wrong.
We are from the US and when we come to London, we always dine for lunch or dinner at Bentley's as my husband loves oysters and I love the fish we can't get where we live in the US such as Sea Bream and John Dory. Wish we could come more often.
Unfortunately the restaurant is not what it used to be. I have been coming to Bentley s for the past 15 years, but not be coming back again after the last time experience. We got charged £58 for a Prosecco bottle which was awfully sweet even though it stated extra dry on the bottle and was very unpleasant to drink - the best the manager could offer us to remove the service charge (service was good until the manager had appeared). Of course we have paid for proseco and ordered another £60 bottle of wine as well for the meal , however the manner of handling my complaint and managerial attitude was staggering to say the least. Will not be coming back again for any occasion, plus the restaurant was 2/3 empty on Friday night which was very surprising to me when I arrived( last time I visited Bentleys was just over a year ago, but by the end of the evening It became quite clear why it is empty.
Incredible fish and chips. I have never had such quality before and it is well worth the money. The selection of wine made by the waiter for the meal was excellent. At no point were we rushed or made to hurry up and it was a lovely relaxing evening in great surroundings.
Outstanding food especially the fish pie, service is on point. Love a place with crisp white table cloths
Everything about Bentley's screams Posh. The decor, the staff, the food presentation screams opulence. Service couldn't have been better - Our waiter was incredible and made us feel right at home as did their entire team.
From start to finish, the cocktails, the wine suggested by the sommelier, the food and OMG, our desserts were incredible. The energy level in the restaurant was perfect and really kept the atmosphere lively.
In all, the perfect evening, we will be back for sure. Happy to recommend.
Had lunch here recently and the service was outstanding along with the food, 11/10
On arriving the staff were very attentive and asked us if we wanted to each outside which as it was a warm
evening we sat outside which had a really nice feel to it, heaters and blankets were on hand if a chill came over. there was a great ambience... The starters were great, I had the oysters which were really nice and then fish pie which was delicious... my hubby had the muscles to start with, which was more like a main course , more than enough really to share a starter. He went on to have the fish chips and peas and that supper good.... all went down well with a really nice bottle of wine... but too full for desert. which was a shame as they looked really good.
Bentleys never disappoints. The food is outstanding, and the wines are top notch. The service is amazing, and the place itself is a bit like a gentlemans club. Its fairly expensive, but I would argue reasonably priced for the quality and service on offer. Highly recommended
service poor . ordered regent fish pie, something else came. Told a new pie would take 20 minutes , I said that I that I would wait however thankfully a new pie came after 10 minutes. Ordered coffee .Forgot to bring it. Had to remind the waiter. The wine waiter came up to me immediately after giving our order. I asked him for more time to select the wine. .He just walked away saying nothing. Eventually the waitress took my wine choice. Only saw the wine waiter again to top up our glasses. He clearly had a cob on which I do not like and reflex badly on the restaurant . I must say that the female waiters were very pleasant and somewhat remorseful. The wine waiter needs training
I must also express my thanks to the management for not charging me for my fish pie and coffee.
Very friendly waiters, good qulaity food.
What a joy! great food cooked to perfection. Jeeves-like service. excellent acoustics. Comfortable chairs. highly competent sommelier. what more cld one want?
Another really good dining experience at Bentleys - a great place to unwind after a stressful day. Made especially nice by the lovely staff who seem to really care that every aspect of your evening is enjoyable. Apart from the excellent service, the food and drink was delicious with perfectly cooked fish and a lovely bottle of wine.
Underwhelmed. The food was average, expensive for what it was. Although the restaurant was largely empty, felt that we were constantly being rushed.
For a supposed London institution I wouldn't be recommending.
Has very fresh seafood. Sole and oysters. The breads are fantastic They have great seasonal salads, entrees (grouse) . The fig and goat cheese salad was fantastic. Best Dover sole, beautifully prepared. Lovely traditional English food. What I want when dining in London. Also, great location! Just off Piccadilly Circus.
We sat outside which was lovely. It was quiet and heaters were warm enough. We were able to chat without hearing other chatter which was nice. Service was good and friendly.
Food is very nice. I had the Royal fish pie which was not huge but tasty. My friend had turbot which was nicely cook but is not cheap and comes without any potatoes or veg.
Ambiance is very nice. I would come again.
I loved their service and food definitely!
Though we went on rather budget friendly orders, the staff were very nice to us and we all loved the food, definitely the oysters and lobster pasta, cheese selection, home baked bread and butter. Bentley will be the venue for special occasion from now on.
By far the best service we have experienced in the U.K.. the whole staff was ready to help. I requested help picking a wine and the staff was spot on with his suggestion. The food was outstanding. The fish stew was out of this world.
Fabulous food & excellent wine - a bit cramped & difficult to talk to your partner sitting opposite you without shouting!!!
Overall a great evening - been meaning to go for decades - now cant wait to go again!
Charming staff- great service and good food but SO pricey!
Delicious food, good and timely customer service, fresh seafood, relaxing atmosphere.
High quality reliable seafood expertly prepared - that is Bentleys. It is expensive but I doubt you will find better. Service is always quick and friendly. The tables in the bar area are just one too many - a little more space per customer would enhance the experience. If I want to impress an overseas visitor with the quality of London cuisine it is the place I book.
Great sea food in a great location in central London
Great food and very good service, even an Italian speaking waiter as requested.
Only pity: no fresh fruit available, nothing at all. Is it so difficult to get fresh fruit in London ? I can’t believe it, this costed you my fifth star !
Waited an. hour before the food arrived due to the waitress forgetting to put the order to the kitchen. However the maitre d complemented us with 2 glasses of wine and a cake for sweet on the house......... Rescued!
The best oysters in the UK. I stupidly ordered grouse ( it’s the season) and it was predictably bad, previously roasted and warmed up prior to serving, dry and nearly tasteless. My fault. This is a renowned FISH restaurant and I allowed myself to be disappointed by a stupid order of game. I have learned my lesson and hope this review will spare other clients. EAT SEAFOOD, you will be delighted.
We came after theater. Despite the late hour, the service was prompt, attentive and friendly. Several varieties of local cultivated oysters were fresh and tasty. The Royal fish pie was delicious and perfectly seasoned. A very enjoyable way to end the evening.
