Bentley's Oyster Bar & Grill
Offered the chance to restore Bentley’s to its former glory when it came up for sale in 2005, Chef Richard Corrigan embraced the challenge. Once again opening its doors to great critical acclaim serving oysters, fish and seafood in much the same way it has since 1916. Linen-clad tables, a wooden floor and Richard’s art collection adorn the walls creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Bentley's Oyster Bar and Grill also has two beautiful private dining rooms. The Crustacea seats up to 14 and the Swallow Street Rooms, with it's own private bar and street entrance, seats up to 60.

A really nice location - tables outside would be great in the summer. Restaurant is lovely, food absolutely amazing and service fabulous. Will definitely return

Always a great choice. Much nicer than that other fish place next door, great for business or social. I’m a big fan!

Our only complaint to a recent lunch at Bentley’s (our fourth or fifth in last couple of months) wasn’t the food, ambience, service or value. No I t was the noise level. Not of guests’ conversation, but of the background music. A loud, intrusive mariachi band with a singer seemingly shouting the same lyrics for an hour and a half. Come on, Richard, you can do better.
Excellent food & service ... we had a fabulous table for 5 on Saturday night to celebrate joint birthdays , the waitress made our celebration a success.
Ambience is good, service is fine.
Food is good but not outstanding nor impressive.
I ordered sashimi/sushi bowl, which was expensive but terrible. Never recommend.
We sat at a banquette in the bar, and I am afraid the piano was just too loud. Not sure what you could do about that, given the space, and I do like the idea of a piano. But we could barely hear one another.
Also, we ordered oysters as a starter, and had to ask for mignonette; surely this should come as standard with a platter of oysters? Only lemon was provided.
But I'll be back!
Food was good but seemed overpriced. Nice drinks. Service was great. Probably would try a different place if looking for this type of food.
Grilled Dover Sole for an impromptu bank holiday lunch was excellent!
Food is good but the tables are too closely packed together and that spoils the otherwise nice ambience
Great food, the upstairs was a bit crowded, high prices
It was for my husband's 60th. We enjoyed our meal. Fish was as requested. My only gripes are being the side veg being quite expensive for small amounts. Wine was good and service superb. It got busy and the noise level got high but that didn't disturb us but it might others looking for a quiet meal. Would go again for another special occasion.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere and great service. Good wine list.
I arrived for a 6 pm dinner reservation at the bar, where I was seated. One or two tables in the room were occupied, and there was one other patron seated at the bar who soon was engaged with the bartender in lengthy conversation. Three other servers were present - two standing in the wings observing the dining area, and one woman behind the bar standing next to the bartender.
After several minutes of waiting it began to dawn on me that something was amiss. I had not been spoken to, greeted, offered a cocktail or provide the menu or drink list. In short, I was ignored. After several more minutes I began trying to subtly get the attention of any of the four restaurant personnel in the nearly empty room. The three others not the bartender were clearly aware of my presence and my growing discontent. Yet they did nothing, as the bartender continued to drone on and on with the solitary fellow at the other end of the bar.
Finally, I got up in disgust, put my napkin on the bar, and turned to walk out of the restaurant. It was only then that I faintly heard someone say "Someone will be with you shortly!" I would have spoken to the seater/greeter upon my departure to express my displeasure, but she too was absent from her post. I left.
I found the fact that I was permitted to languish for ten minutes or so unattended, unacknowledged, and pointedly ignored shocking, especially in light of the fact that four Bentley's employees were otherwise doing nothing but standing around, and were clearly aware of the situation. The bartender's conduct was inexcusable. I have been to Bentley's previously, but will certainly never return, and will take advantage of every opportunity to warn other potential diners of the conduct of Bentley's staff.
My treatment was unacceptable
Great service, wonderful food
Service is ok. But the food is below average and is overpriced. I had the Bentley's Royal Fish Pie for 35.5 pound. The menu stated that there are Loster, Scallop, Prawn and Haddock. But what I had was a small piece of lobster, two small slices of scallop, two small prawns, a few pieces of haddock and a lot of mashed potatoes. I had a whole lobster in another famous restaurant near London China Town with about 20 pounds only.
Great simply and class
Our first experience and would definitely return. All the staff we very friendly and helpful, my first taste of oysters and would thoroughly recommend the Royale Sharing fish platter, need to return as so much on the menu I would like to try!
Great food, great service. Loved the lobster spaghetti. Been a couple of times and is reliably good.
One of my favourite restaurants in London and certainly one of the best fish restaurants. Great for native oysters when they are in season - but alas expensive. There are plenty of other dishes less expensive, including a well made fish stew and that old standby, fish and chips.
Great food and great atmosphere
Lovely restaurant, great setting and food was divine! Would recommend and definetly go again.
Great food, wine and service. Would definitely return.
Perfect restaurant. Highly recommended. Fantastic food - excellent service. Cosy.
Everything was gorgeous except that the restaurant is located quite far from the road
What is better than a grilled dover sole, spinach and a good bottle of white wine? And top that with excellent service.
Outstanding service highly recommended
Perfect sea food
Oysters to die for
The gentleman at the oyster bar was friendly and very informative
Impeccable service, beautifully presented dishes that use fresh, high quality ingredients.
We went on a trip to London with our children. We had a great meal and terrific service. The food was excellent. We especially loved the baked seafood stew and of course the oysters! Would highly recommend it .
Great food, great service, very nice seating, not loud. Good for groups, or couples.
Enjoyable meal at Bentley's Oyster Bar & Grill. The service staff were helpful and knowledgeable about the different oysters and other options on the menu. The food was all fresh and tasty, especially the starters of shellfish cocktail and octopus and chorizo. The fish mains are expensive as tends to be case in similar restaurants but were beautifully cooked. The one complaint is the very small spacing between tables. With only about a 12-18 inch gap the you feel on top of your neighbours, leading to a somewhat restrained atmosphere. Also, the waiting staff are having to squeeze past you to serve the tables next to you. Would go back when warmer and try one of the tables outside unless they are similarly squashed in!
Great seafood, great service as usual!
Thanks for leaving us such a wonderful review. We put customer experience and satisfaction as our priority, and your review reaffirms the hard work we put in every day. So thanks for your kind words and we look forward to seeing you again. - Jane, Public Relations Manager
We arrived early and were welcomed and taken to our table. Very attentive staff from start to finish. Kath and Marco looked after us very well. The baked oysters and fresh mussels were perfect as were the baked cod and the Dover Sole. For me the mussels and the Dover Sole were the best I've had anywhere. Perfectly cooked and well presented. A great venue.
Such a wonderful place to go!!!! Everything is is just fantastic!
Portions too small to justify the very high prices. Even worse than Sheekey's. E.g. a sharing starter seafood platter with one scallop: how do you share that? Extra charge for bread at ~£100/head.... Quality OK, although nothing very innovative.
Food is amazing, however absolutely no atmosphere in drinks bar or bar/restaurant. Service was very prompt, but sadly left thinking I won’t return.
I requested a plate with Happy birthday for my wife’s birthday but was completely forgotten, not even a candle on the pudding.
Superb fish dish and great service
Quiet - it was mid to late afternoon
Went to Bentleys with my family for mother’s Day lunch, service and food were faultless had a great table upstairs by the window loads of room for the four of us,although it is a bit pricey it does not disappoint, highly recommend for occasion but also ideal as a treat for no particular reason, best oysters ever, shall be returning soon
Great food, Good service, reasonably expensive - Make sure you book a table in the main restaurant. We were originally offered a tight, small booth in the bar for 4x adults! On request, the maitre d' swiftly moved us to a table in the Oyster Bar that was a lot roomier but upstairs would have been even better.
