Bentley's Oyster Bar & Grill
Offered the chance to restore Bentley’s to its former glory when it came up for sale in 2005, Chef Richard Corrigan embraced the challenge. Once again opening its doors to great critical acclaim serving oysters, fish and seafood in much the same way it has since 1916. Linen-clad tables, a wooden floor and Richard’s art collection adorn the walls creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Bentley's Oyster Bar and Grill also has two beautiful private dining rooms. The Crustacea seats up to 14 and the Swallow Street Rooms, with it's own private bar and street entrance, seats up to 60.

Nice atmosphere and good service , plus a nice plate of dessert for the Birthday girl.
Molto positiva. Cibo di ottima qualità e personale gentilissimo
The oysters were great! Tasty, fresh, and from diverse local areas. The fish & chips were a very solid execution of a traditional London meal, but done very well! The location is in a touristy part of London, but locals were dining there which I find comforting. The space is also great - some indoor as well as some outdoor. Very fun place, too. Enjoy.
A real treat, in wonderful surroundings. This was a retirement celebration - it’s almost worth going back to work again!
Absolutely beautiful food, decor, ambience and staff. We all agreed that the Menai oysters were the best we had ever eaten.
Old fashioned feel, elegance and service, but very limited table space. Food is very good but some items are exceptionally pricey.
Don't sit near the bar after 9.30 pm as there are no one to serve you. Apart from that the good was amazing.
We had a very nice lunch at Bentleys although my wife had to send back her fish pie as it wasn’t warm all the way through. This was rectified but took about 20 minutes meaning I had finished my meal before my wife was served. I am disappointed that this wasn’t acknowledged by the staff however the quality of seafood here is outstanding and I still recommend it.
As usual very good food , had a problem with first wait staff understanding my order but was taken care of with 2nd female wait staff very well.
It was a disappointing end to what started as a very good birthday celebration with friends.
My first contact with the barman was great - Thanks Irish! ;-)
The food was good although the afternoon ended with an unnecessary and embarrassing exchange at the end.
I had paid a sum up front which on reflection, the restaurant should have taken off the final bill. This would have prevented any confusion.
When the final bill came, I explained that I had paid £100 up front and presented the receipt to the waitress.
less than 5 minutes later, the restaurant manager appeared at our table and politely enough asked me to explain myself again (re the up front payment).
He lingered at our table behind one of my guests until I produced the receipt.
I was totally embarrassed by the situation and the our of our lunch was spoiled.
I spoke to the manager again at the end to tell him how I felt and to better understand what had happened.
The question need not have come to my table at all. The manger should have checked with his team to see who had taken payment, what was logged against my booking etc.
This incident on top of an earlier incident where the same waitress emptied an already empty bottle of water into the glass of one of my guests. The bottle should have been removed and another bottle offered.
This was a really disappointing experience and apart from the apology and excuses, the manager could have done more to rescue the situation.
If the 'error' was down to language or process or both in my opinion, the issue with the bill was totally unnecessary and clearly staff need to be retrained. For the calibre of restaurant and the price tag, this was a disappointing and offensive first visit.
Dear DeAnn D, I would very much like to thank you for taking the time to leave a review. However it does sadden me to hear of your experiences post meal. It seems on this occasion we did not meet the standards that Bentley's always strive to achieve. I would like to rectify this situation. Please, if you would like to discuss further, email firstname.lastname@example.org Kind regards, Ionut Blaga Assistant General Manager
Old school place for wonderful oysters and excellent seafood. Downstairs oyster bar is the more fun environment. Upstairs dining room looked a bit stuffy. I had a magnificent selection of oysters, great Lobster Bisque and perfect grilled Dover Sole. My wife had a nice Haddock dish. Our server was helpful and friendly. She helped my wife with an off the menu option with her main. Pricey but worth it.
Fresh seafood. Yummy
We both ordered sirloin steaks one medium rare one medium. They were both totally over cooked. The peppercorn sauce was a disgrace- it was so watery and had no flavour. The head waiter agreed and offered us complimentary deserts. The sommelier failed to top up our wine glasses.
We have been to Bentleys several times over the years and it has always been great, but this time it was very poor.
The pre theatre menu was good value for money, however we weren’t as wowed by the quality of the food as at Corrigans. Toilets need to be improved also.
I like the wine menu. A full lost of a variety of choices.
Everything was really rather fine but a little overpriced for what it was . Luckily it was a business lunch with an excellent outcome so all was good in the end .
Excellent food, fresh and original.
A little over priced
Been coming here for years but something has changed with the service. Felt ignored the whole evening and had to wait ages for everything. Food great as ever though.
A disappointing experience. Our server was not able to answer any questions about the menu and had to ask a different server to step in. They were out of many of the advertised oysters. The oysters Rockefeller were too dry (as if they had been reheated). They did not have the wine that we ordered from the menu. The manager was polite and apologised for the experience and offered to comp our drinks and appetisers. We left and finished our evening next door at the fabulous Fishworks.
Bentley's retains an atmosphere which makes it my go-to favourite amongst west-end lunch-time restaurants. Used it a lot in the past, went abroad and temporarily forgot how good it is until reminded as a result of disappointments elsewhere. Lovely friendly welcome. Bar quiet and intimate, ask for a particular table and get it. Will return whenever I can.
We liked it very much. Very good oysters, very good fish and chips!
The food is excellent, but one would expect that here. What was surprising (given past visits) was how much the service has deteriorated. The wine didn’t arrive; we had to ask for water glasses to be refilled; the main was brought out incomplete. Odd. And very disappointing.
Had the smoked haddock and beetroot for starter. It was Devine. As was the mixed sea food starter my wife had (cannot remember what it was called) For main I had fish and chips which was beautiful again. My wife’s dish was gorgeous for her too.
My crime brûlée for dessert was lovely too.
Service was very good and the staff were very attentive.
We went on a Tuesday lunchtime. 25th wedding anniversary. It was a treat that didn’t disappoint.
It’s not cheap to eat here but the quality of the food is very very good. I’ll definitely be coming back again.
Fantastic food as always!
Dined here for a birthday dinner and were very impressed overall. We enjoyed a delicious bottle of champagne and the food was outstanding! Will definitely be coming back again. The service was fantastic as well!
Bentley’s Oyster Bar and Grill is set in a pedestrian side street off Piccadilly and when sat outside, you could be on holiday in any European city, the ambiance was perfect. The staff are attentive, professional, knowledgable and very welcoming. Our starter of the salt and pepper squid and smoked salmon potato pancakes were excellent, good sized portions and delicious. Our mains were grouse (which was amazing). My wife had half a lobster, which when it came up was not cooked properly and some of it was still like jelly. This is the only thing that prevents me giving 5 starts for everything. However, the waitress took it away immediately, a fresh (larger) portion was delivered very quickly and was (I was told) delicious. We were given complimentary wine as an apology, which was gratefully received. We will be making this restaurant a regular visit of ours when we travel to London, apart from the one hiccup, it is a wonderful place to sit, eat and relax. Thank you to all the staff for making it a great London restaurant
Food was excellent. We booked on a day there was a master class which over ran slightly so had a wait for our table. The staff seemed a little disorganised. Not sure if this was due to the masterclass or someone else, which is why the service rating is average.
I’ve been going to Bentley’s for 15 years & plan to keep going. I love the food, service, wine & ambience (although this time they forgot to bring us bread with our drinks & I love their soda bread).
The service was good & attentive but some of my order failed to arrive because the waiter forgot about it. This was rapidly sorted out which was a big positive. The food is good but not exceptional & at this price it is bordering on poor value.
35th anniversary trip to england
Was hoping to meet Bill Bentley but he wasn’t around. Otherwise lovely food as always.
Superb meal & fabulous wine - overall a bit pricey but love the food
So good. The oyster is so delicious
Had the most fantastic evening here celebrating my husband’s birthday- food was excellent but the service and atmosphere was outstanding. The bar staff were so friendly and it was a real pleasure to meet with Mr Corrigan. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
If you want some really lovely fresh fish then this is the place to go.....The BEST battered fish I have ever had. Top notch food.
Lovely dinner at Bentley’s! Oysters were amazing! Fish great! Service outstanding!
Great place for a discrete meeting if you go to the bar area. And the staff are amazing!!!
Food has normally been excellent - last visit, this was sadly not the case. But I will go back.
Still one of my favourite places in London!
I would absolutely recommend Bentley Oyster Bar and Grill. The service was amazing and the staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and flavoursome. One of the best restaurants we have been to.
The food, as ever, was excellent. Staff knowledge of the daily specials was very good and made my guests choice easy!
Treat for a friend. Always a good experience
