Excellent food and excellent service with great presentation equals a perfect evening out. Highly recommended!!
Thank you, Bergamot for the wonderful evening, delicious food, nice people... Will definitely come back
Food was excellent. Only complaint was the low-sinking seating of the wall banquette. Starting off with fantastic Iggy’s bread and smoked rosemary butter let us know we were in for culinary perfection!
We had the chef’s choice tasting menu! It was exceptional. The service outstanding. We could not have asked for a more delightful dining experience.
One of our favorite places, for special occasions or just a nice night out. Food is consistently delicious (note the menu is somewhat limited in the sense that there are 5or 6 entrees and a similar number of starters), the staff is gracious, low-key, and accommodating, and the atmosphere is blessedly conversational with interesting music and decor, although I would tell the restaurant to stick to jazz instead of Brazilian covers of Earth, Wind, and Fire, We have had terrific meals here (definitely get the 5 course chef choice if you can); only one time did it fall short portion-wise in the summer of 2019; the latest meal left us stuffed. Cocktails are delicious and inventive; the wine list per bottle is pricey but the single pours are ample and in the expected range (~$13-15). Would definitely recommend. (The desserts are the only areas where they could use some beefing up and creativity).
I want to touch on the "service" category mainly and this review only depicts the treatment our table received from one server. His name is Matthew. Upon asking a cocktail recommendation, he got immediately offended for some reason, and his answer was: "I don't drink cocktails". Matthew was very short in his responses and we observed that behavior throughout our prix fixe courses, and it was clear that he did not appear to like our table for some reason. Another noteworthy response from Matthew was when he asked us if we wanted more bread. There was a slight hesitation on us to interact with him which led us to not respond to him for a few seconds, and because of that, we were asked: "Is that a YES or a NO??". Despite excellent food quality and other service members who were courteous and professional, our overall dining experience was negatively impacted by his unprofessionalism.
Really disappointing. Terrible music that was really distracting. Average food. Duck was good but nothing special. $8 for in house sparkling water. Hair on my plate which I didn’t bother mentioning.
Interesting food and great wine pairing for the tasting menu
I was on a first date. I was seated a couple minutes prior to my reservation. The ambiance was great for having a meaningful conversation and connecting with my date. The service ad food was great and provide sufficient portions for both my date and I to enjoy and share with each course and entree. I loved the service and experience.
An expensive place for that it is. The entrances were small and the food was good but not excellent.
All dishes were superbly prepared, with taste and imagination.
It was fun to go out and try a tasting menu, and the food was good, but it didn't wow me as much as other $200 meals I've had.
Bergamot meets all my requirements in a restaurant: it is possible to have a civilized conversation and pleasant evening when seated in the area I prefer; the wait staff are overwhelmingly willing to answer questions and not make diners feel rushed (to the point where I have been embarrassed of my dinner guests taking advantage of their kindnesses); and the experience always makes me want to go back. A a more frequent change to the menu would be helpful plus a few desserts without dairy. Other than that, I would and do recommend this restaurant to my friends.
We've been here many times and enjoy the creative menu and ambience. Seems like they were busy with a large party and many arriving at a similar time. Result was pretty poor service. Everything took forever. Appetizers arrived before drinks. Bread after both. Staff were polite and apologized for the delay in drinks, but could have let us know things would be going slowly up front.
The food was excellent and so was the server, While appetizers arrived promptly, the kitchen was very slow with the main course (although they did bring two kids meals before the others). The server apologized and said that the regular chef was not there. All in all, a very positive experience with excellent food and atmosphere.
I love Bergamot. The food is excellent, the service is fabulous and the three course option makes it affordable. This is my go to place when I have out-of-town guests to entertain.
Food, service and wine list are always great. Will request a table with chairs next time. The banquet seating at the two tops is very low and uncomfortable.
Service was very very slow. It took 20 minutes to get menus and then loads of time between each course, with no attention from wait staff. It even took 20 minutes to get the bill!
This was a 3rd trip to Bergamot. This is one our favorite restaurants. The food was superb and the rice pudding was to die for! The service was top notch as well. I would recommend Bergamot 100 times over to anyone:)
We had a very complexing experience and for our vegetarian, a disappointing experience. We ordered the tasting menu then asked if we could order an extra app and were dissuaded by our waitress who insisted that the proportions were carefully calculated and it would be too much food. There was then a discussion of who she'd have to fake out the kitchen on how to work it into the line up. We left her to figure it out. Similarly, there were 2 desserts to share between 4 people so we asked if we could purchase another... for some reason she didn't want to sell us more. Again we had to push to make this happen. The food quantity was just fine, even with the extra app and dessert - we weren't stuffed. The vegetarian's meal was very basic, things were omitted rather than nicely substituted, and didn't begin to compare to ours.
Based on recommendations from friends, I was excited to bring my colleagues to Bergamot last Friday night. We were warmly welcomed by very attentive staff, especially our server, Clayton. However the level of individual attentiveness did not translate into the attentiveness to serving times. Every aspect of our dining was slow; from the serving of drinks and pace between courses. We were served our mains after more than 2 hours. One in our party did not really eat very much because of dietary restrictions and the long waiting times affected her the most. She only had roasted potatoes to eat all night and even those arrived late. I would have assumed that the serving staff would be more empathetic towards my co-diner who barely ate when he was, it seemed, very attentive to everything else. Overall, we were all quite disappointed.
We love their food. It never disappoints. Interesting selections perfectly prepared. The service is excellent- attentive without being cloying. Now the BUTs: the noise is overwhelming, so loud it deeply detracts from the experience. They’re not about turning tables over quickly, the usual reason for a deafening din. Our dinner lasted 2 hours.. the wine pairings, an additional $45 regularly disappoints, however. They don’t stand up well on their own and do very little to enhance the food. Finally the lock on the first restroom is broken. They should either fix it or post a sign saying, “knock first!”
Bland, uninspired food and slow, slow disorganized service. Will never go back. Anything is Boston is better
This wasn’t our first time Celebrating at Bergamot. We have really enjoyed our meals here in the past. So when we were thinking of places to celebrate our 20th year dating anniversary, it was my first choice!!
The food as always was amazing. The wine pairing with the 5 course tasting menu was spectacular!! But the service was bad and it really affected our celebratory mood. Our server forgot about us multiple times and at one point she forgot where we were in our courses and caused a very long delay between courses. What normally is an 1.5-2 hour meal was over a 3 hour meal. My husband was really put off by it and isn’t sure we will be going back. For the amount of money that the meal cost, the service really should be substantially better.
A favorite place for a quiet dinner with our family. The setting is always impeccable and the food on our most recent visit was exquisite. The menu is more favorable to pescetarians and vegetarians than most places, yet the range is limited. There is definitely an emphasis on quality over quantity of dishes. The servers are well-informed and really pleasant people. I recommend it highly.
Delicious food and great selection.
The service was horrible but the food was outstanding
The Christmas Eve dinner had a limited menu, but our experience was very pleasant. We'll have to return, to get a more complete sense of the restaurant's capabilities.
The bartender and one lady were very nice.
Our main waiter seemed uninterested and our order was not executed right. We were missing an appetizer and he never bothered to check on us after taking the order.
Food was decent though one main dish should have been a small plate not full priced entree as there was very little there.
Had the chef’s 5-course tasting menu. They were able to accommodate for my vegetarian partner. Fantastic food and great service who described our courses in great detail. Strongly recommend!
Quality of food is average, nothing spectacular and prices are too high, especially with portions being small. Service was outstanding which helped a lot
The food and service were very good. Yelp says they are vegan friendly. There was a vegan option - 2 small pieces of roasted butter squash. It was good, but don't think I'd eat here again. Portions were very small and the bill was very high.
Fanciness and enjoyment do not have a linear relationship.
Bergamot is right at the apex of the curve.
We arrived a little before our reservation and they seated us right away. Waiter came over immediately and gave us some bread and took our drink order. He was great but it took forever to get our drink. Great choices on the menu and food was outstanding! Disagree with portions too small as we felt very adequate. Not tapas at all. We had the beets and monkfish. Perfect! But would agree that it took a very long time for food to come out, about 45 minutes and ordered a second drink and he forgot it. Was going to get desert but we had already been there over 2h and didn’t want to take another 30 min for desert. So overall excellent, food amazing, waiter with great personality and knowledge of menu but service was overall slow. Would go back again for sure.
Our meals were delicious although portions were very small relative to their cost. Unfortunately our waiter was rude at times and we had to wait a very long time for food to arrive.
Food outstanding chef choice menu. Every course outstanding.
Food and drink were excellent. Meal took an hour and a half to come, and it wasn’t a busy night
We had not been to Bergamot for a number of years but I continued to read favorable reviews and occasionally heard from a friends that the food was excellent.
So my wife and I went for our wedding anniversary. It was a Monday night and the restaurant was quiet. The waiter was attentive at first while we ordered drinks and then talked about starters. After the drinks came it was a rather long wait for the appetizers, which were quite good. While waiting for the first course we had ordered our entrees.
3/4’s of an hour after finishing our appetizers our main course came. The wait seemed interminable and somewhat diminished our experience and the pleasure of eating out.
The food was good but nothing to rush back for.
The food is great. The officiousness of the greeter may bother you.
- Servings are extremely small; I understand it is suppose to be an "artisan" restaurant - the food is certainly pretty, but not good if you want an actual meal.
- Came here with my girl friend and got the 5-course. Food came out PAINFULLY slowly. One of the dishes she didn't like at all. When the waiter came up and asked her if we liked it we said she didn't like the dish. I was pretty surprised when he didn't try to remedy the situation by bringing her a different dish, especially considering how much we were paying.
- Extremely kind, patient, and engaging staff. Seriously, the staff here rocks; they are both professional and personable - a combination hard to get right.
- The food is pretty and tasteful
