Bergen Hill in Brooklyn, New York prefers to do a few things very well rather than offer an extensive menu. So, when you visit the restaurant, you will choose from three different sections - seafood, toast and vegetables. Seafood choices are oysters, tuna, black bass, langoustine, octopus and squid. Under "toast", you will find cauliflower, fennel hummus, burrata and lobster salad. Kale wakame, hen of the woods and summer greens comprise the listing of vegetables.
The wine list at Bergen Hill is actually longer than the regular menu, with a representation of red, white, champagne and sparkling wines by the bottle. For an elegant evening out, you will be well pleased with a visit to Bergen Hill.

My Open Table reservation made July 11th was for the Carroll Gardens location. The restaurant has moved to Cooper Square in Manhattan. I called them the night before we dined and they were able to accommodate our party of 4 @ 6:30, which was lucky, since it is a very small space (they had no record of the Open Table reservation). The food is small plates for sharing; all seafood. We started with a burrata/veggie/toast dish followed by a lobster toast dish. We enjoyed tuna, hamachi, black sea bass (delicious smoky flavor), spring salad, and finished with an octopus and faro dish. Black sea bass and octopus were our favorites, but every dish was outstanding. Four of us shared the olive cake for dessert with strawberry compote - the only dessert offered, but it was delicious. Outstanding meal start to finish. Returning in September with guests visiting from England. Can't wait.
Was able to catch Bergen Hill the week before they closed up their Brooklyn location. Every single dish we got was amazing, but the Hamachi with White Soy Ponzu was out of this world. Really great vibe in this small space. A friend told me this was his favorite place in Brooklyn - he wasn't wrong!
Small tapa-style dishes. All unique, fresh and exquisite. The service was very attentive and the ambience, warm
The standout dish was a squid pasta. Not pasta with squid. Pasta MADE OUT of squid. It was mindblowing.
Bergen Hill has quickly become our favorite neighborhood spot. We live a mile away, and it has beat out some stiff competition from several other great local spots. We've been a few times, and every dish, every time, has been exquisite. It's reasonably quiet, and great for couples or small groups. Very intimate.
Love it! Cannot wait to get back with friends for special food and excellent service
This restaurant was outstanding it was a seafood delight tapas experience can't wait to go back
Went for a date night. Ordered the brussel sprouts, carrots, salmon toast, cauliflower toast, lobster, and octopus. Everything was great, the octopus was exceptional. Service was fine, nothing to write home about.
What a great find. Small location with excellent food and service. The small /shared plates experience allowed us to try a good portion of their menu. Recommend the Octopus, hen of the woods, and cauliflower toast
Good food with Thimble size wine pours and harried wait staff suggest bad guest-employee relations. Generosity is missing here and it impacts the flavor!
I've gone to celebrate my birthday with friends, two years in a row. Every course was very good and the timing works perfectly. Only complaint is that the lighting could be generally nicer (from the side not overhead?) but otherwise I love it and will go back for my birthday again!, and maybe for a fancy dinner in between.
Bergen Hill remains one of our all time favorites. The food is simply divine, service super friendly and good, and it is such a relaxing place. The only thing I would change is the music - strange selection of rock and pop. But overall - absolutely marvelous.
Good food but a bit heavy perhaps too much butter. very smoky inside (both i and my date needed to go outside for fresh air a few times during our meal).
Fantastic food, service on point, great wine list
Brilliant. Been more than a dozen times and every dish nails it. No restaurant not named Le Bernardin serves better composed seafood in New York. The food is that good. Cocktails are superb, the space is intimate and lovely, the playlist is on point and the staff is always kind, attentive, and welcoming. Best bet is to sit at the chef's counter and watch either Andy or Tony whip up beautiful food.
The food at Bergen Hill is great. Most of the dishes are seafood and served either grilled or like a crudo. The flavors are very interesting, but not overpowering. The place has a good bar that you can eat at. It has more a Brooklyn laid-back vibe. I highly recommend sitting at the chef's bar to see how they make the food and talk to Tony (the chef) who is pretty cool. This is one of my favorite restaurants primarily because there are not a lot of places like it out there.
