Having dinner in Berners Tavern feels like eating inside the Sistine Chapel, or at least a really, really rich guy’s house.

Having spent the last 12 years sampling London's fantastic restaurants I have never been more appalled by a 'fine dining' restaurant. Our sommelier ripped us off by serving a similar wine that was 2.2x the price of the wine (gruner veltliner £47 Vs gruner kafer £100+) requested with a similar name even after confirming twice with his finger the wine I requested on the menu. I then wondered why he kept staring at us with a vindictive smile. Our starter of mushroom soup came served with a fridge cold poached egg which was undoubtedly cooked hours before. The steak was at least 25 percent sinew and served with a watery peppercorn sauce and apparently triple cooked chips that tasted like cheap vegetable oil. I will say that our dedicated waiter was polite but since we were seated behind the reception desk we waited a long time after receiving our menu for service. The maitre'd was gentlemanly and cared about our experience but this was before we were seated. I will actively be recommending that people avoid this restaurant as there are far better quality places to eat in London for at least half of the price with less pretentious and vindictive staff who are simply looking to rinse the luxury hotel clientele that they are undoubtedly targeting. Shame on whoever runs this restaurant, if you care one bit about customer experience you are in the wrong industry.

Came for breakfast, my wife ordered eggs benedict and the hollandaise was too thick and the poached eggs were overcooked; English muffin was quite good though. I had a full English breakfast and everything was good, but nothing special. The restaurant takes itself a little too seriously which is inline with the London Edition hotel the restaurant is a part of. The hostess checking us in was pretty cold and unwelcoming. It doesn’t help that the day before we had breakfast at Chiltern Firehouse, which is exceptional. Price at Berners is on par with Chiltern but the food, service and ambience is so much better at Chiltern Firehouse. Skip this place and go there instead.

Food was terrible. not worth the money! And service was soooo bad. Food come very very late. I think they started to grow the ingredients when they got order. When we waited desserts for a long time, suddenly an employee said to us "Can you move your seat? because your seat time limit is 2 hours." It was very bad because most of time we spent in Berners Tavern was 'waiting'!!!!!!!!!! I liked the inside of restaurant but overall, I don't recommend here at all!!!!

Lovely room, decent coffee and good smoothie but the food was pretty average, particularly considering the prices. Service was also not great, took a long time to pay, had to ask to get more water etc. Black pudding was excellent!

Really really nice food and friendly service, but a lot of emphasis was placed on the two-hour timeframe when booking and in follow-up emails, but as the place was very busy there was no way we would have been able to finish up in two hours. This was not mentioned by staff at all (we were a bit stressed at 1 hours and 50 minutes!) but I wonder why it was such an important point during the booking process when it wasn't actually applied on the day.
Nice touch with the little birthday dessert and very friendly cloakroom staff. I would definitely go there again.

Not our first visit, but definitely not our best experience there.
Service was pleasant but clearly staff were very busy and not quite as attentive as usual.
Booked in advance but felt like we were given the drop-in seats by the bar.
This was part of a special birthday celebration for my partner, which I highlighted on the special requests during booking. Nothing was acknowledged unfortunately.
Previously on an anniversary lunch a simple but thoughtful acknowledgement was given by way of some chocolates and a card, as well as a complimentary drink on arrival.
I think we'll try somewhere else next time, which is a pity as it's a lovely space with strong food offer.

The service was amazing and the restaurant was stunning. The food was good, but not quite perfect. Our starter was a bit too salty (it was a ham hock terrine that neither of us could eat). However the dessert was delicious as was the main course.

Our overall experience was disappointingly mediocre considering the prices charged. We spent approx £180 for two courses, with a bottle of wine and a glass of champagne each. I've had better food for a third of the price.

Most disappointing was the food - it felt generally overpriced for the quality, for example the mac and cheese was fairly tasteless and average - for nearly £20. The service was generally friendly but again wasn't remarkable considering the prices charged.

The dining room itself is well put together and pleasant, however the tables for two at the sides are very close together.

You're paying for the location and the fairly unique dining room ambience - I wouldn't go back.

It was my second visit to Berners Tavern and it didn't disappoint! We had the Cote De Boeuf which melted in the mouth. Absolutely delicious. The service was effortless, we were never left waiting for anything and our wine glasses were constantly full! Definitely recommend a visit or two.

Berners Tavern
📍10 Berners St, Fitzrovia, London W1T 3NP, UK

One can never fault Berners Tavern for the lunch menu. Food is always exquisite! BUT... be careful, the Sommelier will, in his infinite knowledge, suggest wines that will choke you if you are paying from your private pocket. So, my humble advise, don't hesitate to look at the wine list yourself... no shame in saving yourself a red face!

After hearing such great things about this place, I decided to book the Saturday lunch offer. Service was slow, arrived on time for our booking and the lady at the front was not very welcoming. Table who arrived 15 minutes after us had their orders taken before us. Food was overly salty, quite surprised as I am huge fan of Jason Atherton restaurants. Will not be returning here.

I will remember my experience at Berners Tavern for a while. From ambiance, to service, to food (the crab toast, steak and chocolate peanut desert get my vote), to music, to bar, to automatic doors to the kitchen for staff (small details are always telling).

My only complaint is the lighting is so dim, I'd have quite liked to see my companion's face more clearly.

Other than that, I think I've just found where the cool kids go.

Booked a table for lunch with girlfriends based on the fabulous looking room and reasonably priced, varied menu. It was perfect. The dining room is big and was buzzy on a Friday lunchtime, but it was not noisy. Service was polished and the staff were friendly and helpful. We ordered the set menu and thought it was good value. We enjoyed a leisurely lunch and were not hurried, but left to chat away for hours!

Initially I was told it was impossible to get a table in the corner as i had requested in my booking by the rude phone staff. This set me up to be very critical, but the staff, setting and food where first class and I was given table in the corner 4/4.5 out of 5 - and I judge harshly. Great night

We reserved a table days ago, were punctual but had to wait for around half an hour. The service at out table was very good, but in general not very friendly and the sommelier was a disaster. The value is pour. The prices are far too high in my option. I will never go there again or recommend it.

I am a big fan of Berners tavern. It has a great ambience, it looks beautiful, the food is great and the staff is always very friendly and efficient. However lately I have been finding that the time spent waiting between starter and main course is very long. The other day it was nearly an hour and yesterday I did not notice the time but again it was a fairly big gap. My colleagues who also use the restaurant mentioned the same thing. Apart from that all is great.
