What Insiders Are Saying
Having dinner in Berners Tavern feels like eating inside the Sistine Chapel, or at least a really, really rich guy’s house.
Extremely disappointing service. Sat at our table for 15 minutes before having to attract the attention of the waiter to ask for a drink, sat a further 15 minutes waiting for a waiter to take our food order and again had to ask a passing waiter for service. Not the service I would expect from this restaurant.
One of my favourite places in London, and especially more so for Brunch. The ambience, service and food is always fantastic and the high ceilings and décor remain as impressive as the first time I visited. Recommend any dish with the sourdough bread as well as the pancakes!
I would only recommend it if you like interior design etc. I wouldn’t go again
Group of 7 for dinner. Very friendly staff, delicious food and very notable interior. A fantastic night and will go again. Really very very good.
My dad and I came here for a Friday breakfast during a holiday to London. I by far had the best English Breakfast ever! Not oily like most I’ve had before, and really tasty. Super nice staff as well, and we probably dealt with 4-5 of them from arrival to when we left. Will be hard not to return next time we’re in London!
Another fantastic meal, highly recommended!
Very beautiful restaurant and delicious food. Outstanding
Superb service in a beautiful upscale bar setting. Food was very good, although menu was a bit limited for non-red meat eaters. Definitely worth a visit.
Merveilleux ! J’y retournerais certainement le soir pour l’ambiance et le décor !
Beautiful restaurant, great service, delicious food! Stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday morning, not too busy, casual vibe
Cadre fantastique qui transporte et fait rêver
Un peu trop de bruit pour moi
Quelques plats délicieux
Restaurant was not crowded, yet it was difficult to get the attention of staff for assistance. Service was slow and staff didn't seem happy with what they were doing. We had a similar experience 3 months earlier. Quality of food and service has deteriorated since we started visiting a couple of years back which is a pity for such a grand dining room.
We were having a reasonably good time until a couple with two little screaming children was seated next to us. The kids were screaming and banging toys in the table and turned a perfectly good high end restaurant to something resembling a motorway MacDonalds. We asked to move and were given a quieter table among adults who kept noise to a more acceptable level.
I was looking forward to dining at Berners tavern but our experience was partly ruined I’m afraid.
Have visited restaurant several times before & have had no complaints. Yesterday (New Years Day) I went for brunch with my partner (it was her birthday) & 2 friends visiting from Switzerland. We all ordered off the brunch menu & to say it was disappointing was an understatement. All our eggs were over cooked, the sourdough toast was a very measly thin slice with an equally thin covering of avocado = really bad value.
Would not visit for brunch again🙃
I took my family to celebrate the first day of the new year and my dad’s birthday. The service was slow and inefficient. When I spoke to the manager, he was arrogant and did not even apologize for the bad service.
Fantastic steak, ambience of the restaurant was just right.
Booked 10mins before seating and everything was catered for. Great food shared everything
Food was incredible! One of the best steak places around. The bar just outside is also very classy. Not a wide selection of cocktails on the menu, but you can always request the ones you like from the bartenders.
Staff: Bartender was very friendly & professional which front of house lacked. I felt less than welcomed being greeted with a miserable face. A smile goes a long way. 6/10
Food: Very well executed and served in orderly timing. Flavours worked well and beautifully plated. The only criticism that I have was the potato purée with my Jacobs ladder was overly seasoned, I could not finish the whole dish as I would filling myself up with more water to wash it down. Desserts was my favourite course. 7/10
Tuna Crudo - excellent
Crispy a duck egg - excellent.
Roasted Cod - a little over done but flavours worked well together.
Pistacio parfait - Excellent
Chocolate & Coffee Choux - excellent. Favourite dish of the evening
Restaurant: Highlight of our evening. Stunning. Lighting is designed to perfection with the stunning photo frames. I could stare at it all night. Ambience is perfect. Comfortable temperature. 9/10
The food was lacking in flavour but the ambience was good and the service was exceptional
It was a nice experience with great staff and quality food. Definitely worth a visit.
Love the decor, aesthetic is amazing with all the frames! The service is incredible too
Absolutely perfect! Great atmosphere, amazing decor and exceptional food!! Will certainly be going back again!’
Wonderful venue, great ambiance. Food and service was fine, good wine selection
The environment is outstanding，the ribeye is delicious！
24th December I had the misfortune of celebrating Christmas breakfast at your restaurant and I can only say it was the worst experience I have ever had.
I booked in advance for 8 people to celebrate with my whole family. We were planning a leisurely breakfast with champagne in an elegant setting.
Here is what we got
1. The waiter had the worst hygiene so from the very start when ordering we were overwhelmed with a terrible smell
2. We waited and waited to be served but had to ask 3 times to order
3. The order came as follows: 2 people got what they ordered. 2 people got mistakes, half of which was left on the table getting cold while they tried to resolve it. One person waited 45 minutes for a bowl of porridge
One person asked for a well done omelette and got mush which took a further 25 minutes to resolve. And I, who requested simply avocado on gluten free toast with smoked sAlmon got first eggs on avocado- I am allergic to eggs, then mushed avocado on mushed bread and then finally when everyone had finished the right order.
The drinks came at the end of the meal so the kids were thirsty and grumpy. We never got the water we ordered.
We also didn’t pay but what we lost was a chance for my sister and I to say goodbye to our parents as they are now away for a length of time and the chance to spend a happy Christmas together as a family.
It was an absolute disgrace and I will be posting this on all review sites.
Berners Tavern is known for its ambiance service and food.
WE GOT NONE OF THESE.
Thank you for ruining our Christmas.
I am devastated and would like an appropriate response and explanation.
So grateful for providing the most delicious vegan option, a splendid restaurant!
Our second visit to Berners Tavern, to sample what MUST be THE best Beef Wellington in the world!!!
Impecable service. Wonderful ambiance.
Excellent food and a buzzy atmosphere. Small detail is that the wine list needs updating as the vintages quoted done match what they have in stock.
Berners Tavern managed to fit us in despite a booking mix-up, which was appreciated. The weekend roast menu was nice rather than exceptional, and you pay for 3 courses even if you only take 2. The venue itself is very grand, and you aren’t crammed in like sardines like many London restaurants. The bill had to be corrected due to a £81 overcharge (6 people dining), which is pretty poor for a high-end restaurant.
Brought my partner here for his Birthday. The whole experience was top marks! The service can't be beat. Highly recommend.
Food not the best I've had but 110% worth it for the ambiance.
Beautiful restaurant and food. However small touches, such as the bread could be slightly more high-end. Other than that, the restaurant cannot be faulted.
From the moment we arrived the service was seamless. From the greeting at the front desk to the Sommelier and Maitre d’ the service was excellent
The choice of food coverered all tastes and the quality was of the highest order.
I have already recommended Berners Tavern to several friends and have already planned to revisit in 2019
Enjoyed the experience, helpful staff and great surroundings. Food and wines excellent quality, a bit pricey so if you want cheap go elsewhere.
Extraordinary interior, great ambience, creative dishes.
Cons. Sommelier did not want us to test vine before ordering a bottle. I had to convince him to let us test it.
Delicious food in a beautiful setting. The bar and dining room are worth going to on their own!
Me and my parents chose Berners Tavern to celebrate my graduation from university. Since we are not accustomed to „fine dining“ we needed some help navigating the menu etc. Staff were incredibly helpful and made us feel welcome and comfortable. The food was excellent and upon hearing about my graduation, the waiter surprised me with a small „congratulations“ treat for desert. I can 100% recommend Berners Tavern for anyone like us who is looking to treat themselves.
We all thought the food was ok, the weekend roast I would have thought should have more options and different side dishes also the £8 supplement for the beef Wellington was not good I did not think it was a bit much to ask for this .
I have had better meals at Berners tavern in the past it was a good atmosphere and is a nice venue.
Wonderful food and attentive service throughout but we were rushed off of our table despite being sat half an hour late and having spent £300 on the bill, it felt rude and we were very disappointed with this.
