Food delicious. Portions very large. Only negative was too much “speed pouring” of wine and bottled water.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated, but grossly overrated. The food is just not tasty; certainly you can’t call it a cuisine.
The atmosfere is snobbish with no particular base for it.
Wouldn’t recommend the place.
Not bad food but extremely slow and difficult service from the staff at the restaurant which didn't make me enjoy the food
Service totalement inefficace. Une service du fond de salle le 11/08 nous regarde sans nous servie alors que nous attendons pour commander. Nourriture bien faite mais sans raffinement. Décor chaleureux
Had such a lovely experience at Berners Tavern yesterday. Lovely staff, food and ambience. Perfect for all occasions!
Had breakfast at the restaurant. The ambience of Berners Tavern was excellent. The breakfast, however, was mediocre at best. Would not recommend to anyone visiting London.
Every time i am in London, I would go to this restaurant for dinner. It never disappoints
Loved it! burrata was amazing and chicken schnitzel was very good. Definitely recommend it.
Ill start with the positive, the food was amazing and the wine list delicious. What lets this place down is the music - pumping disco does not say romantic to me on Monday. The music is more apt to a bar. The tables!! such hideous faux wood effect in such a beautiful room, maybe they want to strike a balance between informal and formal but choose a beautiful material if your not going to put a table cloth on it! The floor for heels is like a skating rink, this should really be looked into. I feel for the price there needs to be more focus on the service and atmosphere to compliment the excellent food.
Was really looking forward to this as the restaurant had been recommended. It is a fabulous space, and initially the service was good. This tailed off during the evening to a point where I had to struggle to grab someone to pay the bill. They impose a fixed service charge.
The food was OK - not special - and expensive. The wines are massively overpriced. This is central London so I accept that this is par for the course.....
Absolutely beautiful setting. Awesome food and amazing drinks list. Customer service was impeccable.
On arrival we were seated and I asked what gins were available. The waiter listed only 3 ‘standard’ gins which surprised me.... and proved to be wrong!! Service was ok to start with but got slower as the restaurant got busier. Food was ok but steak lacked flavour. Overall food was expensive for what it was. Real insult came at the end of the evening just before the bill for the 2 of us of £280 arrived.... when we were asked to move to the bar as the table was reserved from 9.30. If the service was better the meal would not have taken 2 hours. Suffice to say I declined the “optional” 12.5% service charge. Nice venue but won’t be going again.
It has been a great pleasure again. I love the place for the great atmosphere, the delicious food and the super service
Great service, excellent food, good portions and beautiful ambiance. Just a little expensive but worth it for a special occasion.
The chateaubriand is to die for. Desserts slightly disappointing. I would just do entrees and mains. Then go somewhere else for dessert if you're still hungry. The wine list is extensive but some of it crazily expensive, I dislike seeing fancy wine prices in restaurants, it's so pretentious. That wine list was a heavy tome in fine print to try and read in dimly lit surroundings. But surroundings are Wow, and steaks very good.
Berners tavern ambience is amazing. The decor and low lighting was very lovely. Unfortunately the steak was medium well although we ordered medium. When we notified the staff we was told that the meat had rested and becomes tougher... which I found strange as this particular steak was my favourite up until this booking. But we was complimented with wine by the waiter which we appreciated. Amazing staff and ambience. Excellent wine also.
Service was haphazard, it seems more and more restaurants are putting on the optional 12.1/2 % service charge and then thinking they don’t have to try hard.
I started with the full English breakfast which I would not recommend, overpriced and average.
The Lamb was nice but at £80 for two it should be, we asked for two Yorkshire puddings that never arrived, despite asking three times, the manager came over and apologised and asked us if we’d like a drink, one of us did and was promptly charged £16 for a glass of red wine, after a long discussion he reluctantly took that drink off.
This meal cost £340 for four of us with one drink each and two starters, four mains and one dessert for two.
Poor value, room very nice but downhill from there.
The food was very good, sommelier knows his stuff and waiting staff attentive. I love the ambience, the room is so large and spacious, gorgeous architecture and love all the artwork, it's like eating in a gallery. Fab!
Was offered a cheese plate as part of the booking but was not offered
Had a great time, very friendly and enthusiastic staff and good food. As it was our anniversary we were given a complimentary chocolate truffle with candle on a ‘happy anniversary’ plate. A nice touch.
Beautiful location exquisite food perfect service
Very good service. Great food and ambiance. Team on the day was great.
My first experience at Berners was in the bar on a Friday evening and it was buzzing! The service was impeccable. I brought five friends one week later and we sat in the restaurant. Our reservations were for 6:30pm and it was very quiet and we felt very rushed by our server. We would have loved to take the meal slowly and order some cocktails. She was practically rolling her eyes at us when we weren’t ready to order.
We look for 3 things at a good restaurant, good service, good food/drinks and good atmosphere. Berners Tavern ticked all 3 boxes. We’ve been to so many 1 Michelin restaurants half as good as the “Tavern” it begs the question how did they overlook this gem? Who needs a star on the door when there are more than enough inside.
Absolutely loved the decor and ambience in this restaurant and would definitely go back for a special occasion (as it is very pricey!).
Pretty poor value for money (£14 for one of the smallest cocktails ever and £16 for beautifully presented by meagre bit of crab on (a single slice of) toast), but as I said it really is a stunning restaurant with a great atmosphere.
Service very pleasant and polite, but don’t think they realised just how slow they were with doing..well..anything really.
Hey-ho. Despite the focus on the negatives above, I would totally go back!
Lovely venue and beautiful bullying. Food was good, second was aloof.
The ambiance in he restaurant is magnificent, the service impeccable. The food was great, not as fabulous as the first time we visited but still very good. You cannot help but have a magical evening in The setting and the service is 5 star!
The meal was exceptional.
Great menu, excellent food and very good service.
Another wonderful dining experience at Berners. Fabulous brekkie in a lovely setting. Perfectly poached eggs on smashed avo, bacon on the side 👌 Love this place !
The food was exsquisite and the atmosphere was relaxing.
Fantastic service, food and ambience. Highly recommend.
Very friendly staff but the price is just too high!
I have been in Berners Tavern several times. Absolutely stunning place and fantastic food always!
Delicious food and impeccable service. Great London experience for us on our last day. Really great experience and the space is just so gorgeous. Step back in time and soak up the atmosphere!
The location, decor and food are absolutely lovely. Really really good and for that , I would recommend.
However , the service was not as good as expected. Our table was booked several weeks in advance, but when we arrived the table wasn’t ready. We were kept waiting over half an hour. Of course we could have a drink at the bar , but when you’ve a sitter booked, and a deadline to be home again , and you’ve already had pre dinner drinks, you’d like to be seated for dinner - perhaps I’m in a minority there.
The food as I said, was absolutely fantastic. The service to get further drinks was challenging. Lots of staff about, but not tending to our corner of the room.
It took quite some time to get someone to bring the dessert menu, and we gave up with trying to get after dinner coffee.
When the bill came, there was a £60 bottle of wine on which we hadn’t ordered , just attention to detail which took time to resolve, time which at this stage in the evening, led to us
Having to hot foot it home, only just making the last connection we needed. Not a relaxing end to our evening, which was a shame.
Check your bill - quite a bit of padding to watch out for particularly from the sommeliers and champagne trolly guys. They hope you don't notice and when you do it takes forever to sort it out as if they hope you will just pay and leave. left a very sour taste and marred what would have been a fine evening.
Very expensive restaurant, but ideal for a special occasion, as the food is good and it is properly posh. The service was amazing, everyone was really nice. I wouldn't go there for anything else though.
don’t waste your time - horrible service, horrible food! great decor which makes this place overpriced and deceiving! there are a million better restaurants in london. trust me.
A nightmare. We were a group of 5, out last night in London. Air-conditioning was apparently turned-off, the two bottles of Italian reds came warm as hell... this only to begin. We ordered a lot of starters and shared the courses marked as “to be shared”. One of the big steaks, we asked for medium cooked, and when arrived we thought it was more red than expected so we asked to cook a little more. 30 min after the cook request nothing... no waiter, no follow-ups on the beef nor nothing. We fought to find someone, called the waiter, another guy came in, and then another one, and then another one... 45 min later we hear the news: “we had some issues with the kitchen and they dropped your meal of”. No excuses, no apologies, no nothing. What a shame.... so the last guy that came in said, “we will not charge you for the steak” and insisted “we will not charge the steak”. OMG, really?! You tree our meat away and wanted to charge me?! So the grand finale: they charged the service as nothing has happened, did not clean the table, did not offered us anything, did not apologize. Horrible service, regular food, no air, no refrigerated wine.... a nightmare. Worst meal ever in London.
