Very nice atmosphere! Good food and really good wine!
As has always been my experience, the food was excellent - well-presented and tasty - but even on a relatively busy evening the upstairs area lacked a little ambience, not helped by being positioned next to 3 businessmen discussing their obviously very important day in loud voices. We moved. The background music - hardly authentic Spanish! - also detracted from the overall ambience.
The service was very pleasant but typically Mediterranean in pace and attentiveness. I had mentioned in my booking comments that I was celebrating a friends birthday and that I was looking to make the evening special. I came in weighed down with presents which were opened at the table but no additional effort was apparent, which was a bit disappointing.
The wine selection now appears more limited. - certainly the impressive displays around the walls has diminished - and while the bottle of Rioja we selected was good, the 400% mark up looked a bit steep even for London.
Overall, I think the message is that this is a fabulous restaurant - the design and decor are stunning - but they need to work harder at making the dining experience just that bit more special and authentic.
Overprice and not really that tasty. The place was empty on a Saturday night. I won't be surprised if they close down by end of the year.
They should cut the price or play the gastronomy restaurant.
Really nice food great location . lovely atmosphere
Cousy and smart place with very good quality food and amazing staff
Really good service. The food was good. Loved the sangrias .
Couldn't find the restaurant initially as there was no board outside.
Good food, nice staff, friendly owners.
Quiet on weekends, good for chatting but not buzzy. We we're told it's going to relaunch in sept'16, so watch this space. Overall a nice place, especially for those who like Spanish Basque food and wine
The food was excellent - a real step up from chain tapas restaurants for the same money. Tortilla was light and fluffy. Croquetas - top! It felt genuinely Spanish
Was not let down with our second visit. Food was beautifully executed. The wine list was extensive with price brackets for all tastes. Service was attentive and very efficient. Look forward to visit no.3.
Very nice staff. Our youngest daughter fell and hit her head. The staff immediately attended to her and provided everything we needed (like ice!). Then the food: just wow. The meat was the best I have had in a long time. A great prelude to our trip to San Sebastián this summer. Highly recommended.
Excellent service good ambience and good food and presentation
What a great restaurant. It is a pity we did not have more time to enjoy the place. The tapas was excellent and portions were generous. The wine list is predominately Spanish and carefully chosen. Prices are good value for the quality of the wines. The service was efficient but relaxed as is the atmosphere. Bilbao Berria will be a firm favourite in future.
This place is happening - and staff here is very courteous and polite. We had a lovely evening
The food was excellent and it's really nice inside. The waitress was really nice and helpful but service was really slow and because of that we didn't have time for desert which was a shame. Overall it was good and I'm glad I went, which I feel says it all really! Great wine selection also
Bilbao Berria always has the best of Spain in London. They recommended a wine from Leon and was delicious. Without any doubt we will be going back soon
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the whole experience.
For Tapas style plates the portion size was very good. The food was great, especially the Rabbit paella. They even packaged up the leftovers. We have a habit of over-ordering!
The booking process and confirmation was good.
At the outset need to firmly state how awful the staff and service was. Even though I had booked downstairs in the restaurant, they seated us in the bare area upstairs at a table which was too low for me to sit properly. Whilst it was a later post-theatre booking (10pm), staff were clearly not bothered to serve us properly as they felt the service was ending downstairs with two tables left. They seemed indignant as well as reluctant to seat us where I ha actually booked. I ordered two cocktails both of which they then got wrong. Food was distinctly average to say the least, they even got the most basic of dishes (patatas bravas) wrong. I mean, are kidding me..?!? Overall a pretty horrendous dining experience, I would genuinely avoid eating at this place. The only redeeming feature being the decor and loos downstairs.
Unfortunately the night we went was on a hot Saturday and everyone was taking advantage of the upstairs and outdoor space so the downstairs restaurant was empty which affected the atmosphere a bit but the food and superb service more than made up for it. Will definitely return.
Good tapas menu upstairs in the bar area, nice service but you need to be a bit patient with the waitresses as some dont speak terribly good english. Would definitely come again.
Went before a theatre trip - the theatre menu was varied and delicious and the service was great - good experience all round!
Good looking restaurant with nice atmosphere. Good food, and reasonable service. Minor hiccup with OpenTable booking, a system they suggested they had deactivated, but they honoured our booking nonetheless.
I thought the restaurant was stunning and the food excellent. I was dining with my fiancee's family who are spanish and they very much enjoyed the experience as well. My one criticism was that the waiter quite rudely pointed out the fact that I didn't speak spanish whilst pointing at me and speaking over me like I wasn't there. It was a small thing but totally unnecessary when I have been learning and was quite clearly trying for my new family in law. They all thought it was rude too.
Lovely food, charming setting and very nice waiters - would totally recommend!
Good ambience and plenty of food choice to allow for varied tastes. The sole and the sea bass were both excellent and I could eat jamon iberica all evening there. The Terrras Gauda is one of the best Alberinos in London.
We dined at Bilbao Berria upon the recommendation of a friend. We were disappointed, mostly because of the portion sizes of what we received. £16 for some tiny sliced meats (brought out from around the corner, not hand sliced from the jamon on display) seemed pricey for something on sale at Waitrose for £4, with the latter looking and tasting better. What we did find, however, was the wine was good value and quite delicious. Service was slow, with staff spending time chatting to one another rather than being attentive to diners, until it came time to free our table up for the next sitting, when we were ushered quickly to the door. It didn't leave the best impression. Would I go back? Probably not, but maybe for a drink.
Lovely staff, beautiful deco, really bad food and small portion. Basket of bread is 4 dry slices of tesco baguette with oil. I had asparagus salad it contains 2 white tin asparagus, 2 green asparagus mine were over cooked and teaspoon of red humous and cost £7.50. Desert is nicely presented all cheap supermarket range. Avoid if you ask me. Overpriced for the quality of good and size of the portion. Staff are all lovely and look after you in great manner as soon as you walk through the door. Shame its food is such a let down.
Service was friendly and professional and the design using recycled materials is fantastic. Food and wine is not cheap but you are in theatre land. Food is nicely prepared and tasty, I recommend the bellota, octupus and the asparagus dishes.
Tasty spanish tapas and relaxed ambience make it for a nice meal out. Reasonably priced for the quality of food. If you like spanish food its a pretty good choice. I will go there again.
Close to piccadilly circus, but not a touristic restaurant. Nice people, good food and a reasonable price (for London standars). We will come back
I have been going to Bilbao Berria for many occasions (at least 10 times) in the last year or so as my office is close by and I've always appreciated the ambiance, volume of the background music (it's so important as you can hardly talk to the next person in some restaurants these days) and friendly staffs.
Food is decent - I particularly like their grilled beef flank, pimientos and octopus.
The portion sizes were never generous but in the last few visits, I've noticed they got even smaller for some of our regular orders (e.g. less than half of the usual portion for patatas bravas, basque chorizos, cheese board etc - we thought it was a joke!) and our favorite jamon iberico was extremely dry and disappointing. The first time when I noticed these changes, I thought it might have been an one-off occasion (thinking maybe they were running out of ingredients) and had let go but as they were repeated the second time in a row, I will think twice before booking this restaurant again. There are many other restaurants in London that are replaceable.
If you go with a man for dinner, he might not impressed by the portion size. All very pretty but on the pettite size.
There was nothing we did not like but we found the portions to small
The cheese boards, can with so little bread that you have fished the bread before the cheese
We ask for a bit plate of meet and got 4 little fillets I can only wonder what thr samall is like
Overall a nicely set restaurant
Nice for a night out with the ladies
Very chill and relaxing
Would I get back? Probably since we had a lovely time but I should make sure I am not too hungry
We had a wonderful time here after a late booking. The food was delicious & the service was impeccable. The restaurant's interior is also attractive. Would recommend.
One of the best tapas bar in London. The food is very good and a lot of thought has gone into attention to detail. I would visit again
We had some interesting dishes - recommend the traditional garlic soup. It may sound simple but delicious. Fried egg with foie gras and straw potatoes was another great dish. Service and ambience was good so made the evening perfect.
Have been to the original one in Spain and this one did not disappoint.
Fantastic food and service.
Would definitely go back.
I booked a table for a sunday lunch, the food was great - the paella tasted amazing - and the service + the atmosphere were really what I was expecting : calm ambiance and staff always looking for any questions and ready to help.
I would recommend this restaurant - and will go back myself !
First time downstairs, fantastic decor makes a great ambience. Had 5 dishes, the asparagus and beef flanks were the best. Good cava and overall wine list.
I will definitely go back to bilbao berria. It is very stylish with relatively low lighting and dark decor, which is somehow vibrant and interesting at the same time. The food is excellent, the cocktails were good, there is a huge variety of tapas plates and they'll happily make recommendations and give you a steer on the quantities. Which of course you can ignore as we did and end up with a large bill, and belly! You actually feel a little like you're in barcelona at times in here, which probably explains why it can take a little time to attract the attention of the serving staff, it is relaxed I would say. Anyway best tapas place I've been, to including many in spain.
The starter hsm croquette was very bland. The main was ok but mine was cold and it took a half hour to replace at which time my partner's meal was finished. The whole experience was really disappointing. We had one night in London and it left a bad taste I. Out mouth. Although I got my meal on the house I felt it was the least they could do we ended up paying seventy pounds for a very disappointing evening
Enjoyed starters and wine, service was good but main courses disappointed. They were quite rich and not varied in flavour so not as interesting as we had hoped. Quite enjoyed our evening but would not return.
