Been many times and can't fault it. Outstanding value, varied menu with lots of choices, excellent service. Lovely colourful décor and cosy. There is also limited outside pavement area for dining. A gem in the heart of London.
First time here, food was really good and will definitely go back again. Quite a small place so maybe book first. The only thing I can think of as a downfall would be that we felt the staff tried to rush us a bit towards the end of the meal, hovering asking if we need anything but that won't be putting me of going back :)
Been here on many occasions with groups of friends.
Did not disappoint. Friendly service. This is friendly reasonably priced restaurant, in the heart of Soho. Great if you won't an inexpensive evening to catch up with friends.
Me and my husband had enjoyable meal last Saturday. Highly recommended this place - delicious food, warm welcome from staff, good value & friendly atmosphere.
Excellent service, fairly good food, and the right price.
Lovely place with friendly service. Food was excellent but my steak of choice was not done to my taste. It was not tender and much of it was inedible. It was not appropriate to return it in view of the company and occasion I was enjoying. However I would definitely recommend the Bistro 1 and we will return when next in London.
As always attentive friendly service
They only letdown was the quality of the white wine
We tried both the house and Chardonnay, both very disappointing.
I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience. And the atmosphere was really welcoming and lively
Perfect for a pre-theatre dinner. Good service and very reasonably priced tasty food. Cosy and comfortable restaurant.
Small portions. Average food, good value.
Great value food in a nice cosy atmosphere in a good location - very convenient for pre theatre .
Great ambiance. Waitresses were very hard working and professional. Food was good honest Mediterranean. Will defo go back.
Always pleased with the service here but it was a but slower than usual this time. The food was delicious as always and I definitely can't complain about the price.
Been eating out at Bistro for over 20 years. Great value and hard to fault.
Perfect! Thanks Bistro
Really nice place, great for a good value meal, like the set menus
It is London, so I expected expensive and it wasn’t so bad but v small portions. Our waitress never seemed to be in a rush- annoying when you have places to get to. As a vegan, I managed to eat the falafel and sorbet but that was all in the menu :/ probs wouldn’t come back but not a bad place x
Great food, great price, great atmosphere, great location. Why spend a lot on hipster food when u can get a decent meal here that is good quality?
Food, service and overall ambience were great. Particularly good chargrilled chicken. Will definitely go back. Only criticism is that the tables are very close together but it wouldn't put me off visiting again.
A good variety of choices on the menu. Friendly atmosphere. Close to the theatres.
Would definitely go there again.
Fantastic value set menu we all thoroughly enjoyed. Great tasting, home cooked food in Theatre land......
Went for a freinds birthday and experienced great service and great value food.
The starters were very good
The main element of the main was very good but the mashed potato was lumpy and cold which is no surprise when the plates a stone cold. I ate mine because I was very hungry the wife did not
Plates from main took 20 mins to clear no one asked if OK from the time it was delivered until plates were cleared. Too busy was the reason for the time taken to clear plates. OK it was busy so get more staff in. We got an apology and were offered of a Baileys which I presume was not just meant to mean this, but it was not really good enough it. It put us off desert and coffees.
Full price on the bill including the service charge, so taking the p.... a little.
A lovely cosy place, excellent homemade food, pleasant and attentive service!
I have eaten at Bistro 1 several times. The food may not be gourmet but it's good, with a mostly Mediterranean menu which includes a few British options, like fish and chips. The set menu is good value. Staff are helpful and friendly. The menu tends to remain the same, so you always know what you're getting and if you have a favourite, you know it will be there next time you go. It's a small restaurant, so I'd recommend reserving a table for dinner in case they're full. The decor is lovely. They have beautiful coloured glass lamps hanging from the ceiling. They also have a good hygiene rating, which is essential to me when choosing a restaurant.
Gone downhill. Food tired and mains lukewarm. Really tiny starter portion of fried brie with thin sauce. Cheesecake used to be lovely, now made with cheap ingredients reminiscent of sweet shaving foam. Staff put us ( 5) on a table for our booking only for the waitress to try to move us to a smaller one. Loos and downstairs smelly, no soap in gents, but It seemed nobody cares. Used to love Bistro 1 for great value. On this showing,it has lost its mojo and we will not return.
Enjoyable meal, very friendly and helpful would return
Good value (for the West end) prix fixe place.
Le service est excellent, sourire, conviviale.
La nourriture est très bonne.
Le cadre est très sympathique.
Great location for Shaftesbury avenue, generous portions, friendly staff, excellent value
Easy going and friendly staff. Good range of food in their fixed menu.
Booked this restaurant for lunch before going to the theatre. Chose it because it had a good choice of food which catered for all our group. We all really enjoyed Bistro 1. Service, food and value for money was outstanding. We will certainly be recommending it to our friends.
It is a decent restaurant. Very cheap and fair prices for decent food!
Good value for money Mediterranean food with friendly. Restuarant in a vibrant of central London.
We arrived a little late for our appointment at 6.30pm but we’re greeted politely and seated immediately. Menus, bread and drinks all came quickly as did the tasty food. The only downside was a large, noisy group next to us but being the week before Christmas we could excuse that. However, at £27.79 per head for a three course meal plus two drinks, we couldn’t complain. We also got crackers and a free brandy.
Reviews suggezyed Bistro for pre theTre dining. Service was fast and food was good.
Poor customer service - we had to move table as they were expecting a large party - surely they knew this before we were seated. Offered no help in moving just pointed at were we could sit. Food was mediocre and service was poor. Will not be going back or recommending to anyone. The only pleasant thing said to us was when we paid the bill.
I have dined at Bistro1 on numerous occasions before, albeit not within the previous year, and this was categorically my worst visit. Whether ownership has changed in the interim or not I do not know, but had I been a first time visitor then I would certainly not be returning.
I made a reservation for two people, and upon arriving we were placed onto a table which we were required to share with another party. Drinks and food orders were taken, and then the wait began. A basket of bread was not brought over to our table, and more incredibly our drinks orders were forgotten too. As such, our starters arrived yet we still had not been served our ordered water and wine. Upon pointing this out (plus the absence of bread) to the waitress we were told that she would look into it, and eventually 5 minutes further on (by which time we had almost finished our starters) our drinks and bread arrived.
We were asked if we would like any sauces with our mains, and we requested some vinegar. The waitress appeared to have no idea what vinegar was, but then insisted that she would bring some over. This also never arrived.
Whilst we were eating our mains it became apparent that Bistro1 had not given any thought to table layouts to accommodate the bookings that they had taken, hence one party were told that they needed to leave as they had overstayed (they still had unfinished drinks at the time) and other parties were moved around as the staff tried to rearrange tables to accommodate the bookings that they had taken. This created for a terrible ambiance, especially when you can hear the members of staff complaining and shouting to each other.
It is a shame that I have had to write the above, since the food quality, as always, was excellent. As mentioned in the introduction, I do not know whether this was just a very bad day (these things happen!) or if there has been a change in ownership/management in the last year, but for the first time I genuinely couldn't wait to get out.
Food was great but service not so good. Three different waitresses served our table. One was snippy with us, one didn’t speak English and one forgot to serve us bread. One was chewing gum whilst serving us.
A lovely meal as always. The food and service is always lovely, we visit whenever we are in London.
Great location in the heart of Soho, ideal for pre/post theatre, great value Fixed Price Menu
