Bistro at the Distillery
The Bistro specialises in 'best of British' cuisine, with local produce taking centre stage. Join us for a simple coffee and a slice of home-made cake, or go all out with brunch, lunch, a full afternoon tea or leisurely three-course supper. We operate a daily set menu which changes regularly and a sumptuous a la carte selection. Enjoy sweet treats galore with our Afternoon Tea, offered daily (Mon-Sat) between 3-5pm or a classic Sunday Roast to end the week.
Requested table was made available for us. Very friendly badly staff. Super evening.
We felt the Bistro was a bit cramped and the food was OK but to serve Halibut with Chips, please!
Excellent food, nice atmosphere, good value, great choice.
The waiters went above and beyond for my friends birthday. Great food! Only comment is we had to buy bread for the anglers plate which seemed odd it didn’t come with it otherwise you are just eating fish, otherwise great!
I have dined at the Bistro a number of times and enjoyed the meals. My daughter joined us on this occasion and remarked that the food in Cumbria is of a higher standard than in the South of the country. She visited from Surrey. The staff were very helpful and pleasant.
Very much enjoyed our afternoon tea. Tea pot was renewed without asking. Selection of goodies was very good and service was éfficient and friendly
Very welcoming, friendly staff, no hurrying, we got a nice table (room to stack away the walking sticks of one of us), food was beautifully presented and was cooked exactly right, gorgeous wine (at an affordable price) so next time we are in the Lakes we will have lunch again at the Distillery. And... we could enjoy a bottle of wine between the two of us, because the X4/X5 bus took us there and back again from Penruddock.
Good food, good quality a little noisey but overall very good.
Paid in advance for my parents to have a 3 course Sunday Lunch for their 30th Anniversary and wish that I hadn't. Apparently there was only had one dish available from the mains menu which was the vegetarian dish and many dishes missing from other menus. The drinks I'd ordered for them on arrival didn't reach them until they asked the staff if there was any ordered because I'd mentioned to my Mum that I'd ordered some fizz - something I'd easily forgive if my parents weren't so embarrassed to tell me that the food quality was poor as well as the service. Really disappointed as I booked this on a recommendation from a friend. Needless to say I've told them to never recommend it again.
Food was fab and no complaints with this however they we're a little understaffed so the service was a little slow and had to wait for food and drinks a little longer than i would have liked. Not sure if this was due to the fact that we we're sat outside. However the staff that did serve us we're excellent and this was no reflection on them and their efforts. I would still come back and dine at the Bistro as the food was fantastic and i'd like to try more of the menu. I would recommended eating at the Bistro and i would also advise that you book well in advance as they do get seriously busy.
The salmon starter was disappointing from the point of view of the quantity of salmon on the plate relative to the price charged - it's claimed to be a Bistro!
It's many years since I had to go outside to the toilet in a restaurant - memories of the original curry houses in Bradford!
We enjoyed a wonderful meal after our Distillery tour, the best fish and chips we’ve ever eaten. Please go you won’t be disappointed.
The food was excellent, but service rather patchy. We had to ask twice for the wine, once when we ordered the food originally and then half way through the main course. That was too late to fully enjoy the wine, and we had expected it to be served with, or immediately after, the starters, and we struggled to finish the bottle before we ordered the dessert.
The gin aperitif was very good, and the desserts excellent, although service was slow.
Had a superb meal here with my wife for our 23rd Wedding Anniversary. Service was quick. And food was superb. Waiters were very friendly. I requested a bunch of flowers to be on the table for my wife which was a lovely touch.
Lovely food in a bright and welcoming environment.
Travelled over 100miles for the fishcakes. No fiskcakes on arrival. Had a distillers lunch which was very nice.
We visited Bistro at the Distillery over Easter weekend and were able to sit out in the stunning courtyard as the weather was so beautiful. Food and drinks were excellent and service was great. We saw a number of people having afternoon tea which also looked fabulous. We followed our lunch with a tour of the distillery which I would highly recommend. Will definitely plan to visit again to try the afternoon tea and meet the alpacas!
We had various dishes between the four of us, all of them excellent. Staff were very pleasant but a little unorganised at the beginning of the meal. The surroundings were beautiful. The tables outside well thought and well organised for good weather, in fact we really enjoyed eating in the open air.
Good food attractive on a plate but main course service a bit too slow. However all plates served at same time
My sister and I had the most fabulous afternoon tea this week, the food was outstanding and I would highly recommend to anyone. I’ve never had sandwiches so fresh and the cakes were so delicate. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the premises spotless and comfortable.
This is one of the best restaurants I have been to in the area. The food is of brilliant quality and the service is good. The staff were very helpful with their recommendations and prompt in delivery. The area surrounding the restaurant is beautiful which makes the whole experience very pleasant. The restaurant is fairly quiet so is very easy to have a good conversation with your company. I very much enjoyed my visit and will definitely be visiting again if I get an opportunity.
the Bistro has some interesting food including Cumbrian favourites and the quality is good. Also do afternoon tea with some really delicious cake. A good Bistro in a wonderful setting.
We had a lovely meal for 4 adults and 2 children on Sunday 14th which fell into school holiday period. Food was well presented and hot, staff friendly and helpful. Sunday lunch very good also fish and chips excellent. The children enjoyed both fish and sausage and chips with treacle tart their plates were clear, amazing, to top it all children's food was free for holiday period.
Thought the starters were a little lacking for the price, would have expected to have been offered water, but were not.Main courses very nice.
Misunderstanding re booking. Also we had advised that this was to celebrate a birthday but this went by unmarked which was disappointing. Redeeming feature was waiter, Matthew, who treats his job as a profession - very impressive and very refreshing. He should be running the whole place. Food fab but specials menu did not include anything which was not already on main menu. A little more variety required.
Second visit and still not disappointed, really enjoyed the food and attentive service.
The service was great and the food was amazing. We had three generations and they all agreed that it was a fantastic lunch. We will definitely come again and spread the word. Thank you to all the staff.
The bistro is a very pleasant location to have a meal. The food is usually very good and the service polite and efficient.
Out for a birthday lunch. Great food and service
Fabulous food and service. Perfect for our 31st Anniversary.
Very welcoming staff. Lovely bistro with room between each table. Attentive staff. Great wine and the food was delicious.
We will be hack to ear again
Very informative tour and great food. Staff went out the way to accommodate food tolerances. Thank you
Good all rounder. Compliments the distillery. Would come again.
The food was excellent and the surroundings are really unusual in the converted barns as part of the distillery. The service was friendly and relaxed and the Lakes Gin was fabulous.
Lovely setting with attentive staff. Food was excellent and reasonably priced.
As usual the food was absolutely superb, service was good, the staff as always were friendly and helpful.
the whole experience was extremely good, the only downside was that they had run out of the dessert that my wife and I wanted, which must mean it was excellent, however the alternative we chose was delicious anyway so the disappointment was short lived. We would thoroughly recommend the Bistro.
Excellent night, gorgeous food, great staff and we would especially like to thank Matthews, very helpful and attentive. Thank you
Had the scotch egg to start which was good, but the main chicken dish which consisted of a small piece of chicken fine beans and a small round pancake which was tasteless and the sauce was watery and the whole dish needed seasoning
Very disappointing meal
Fantastic food. The waitres, Ellie was outstanding - so friendly, efficient and attentive.
Excellent food and service as always, would highly recommend
