We had a wonderful return to indoor dining at Barbaret last night. The food was even better than I remembered; highlights included beets and goat cheese brulee, potato and pepper soup, amazing veal/bacon meatballs in sauce soubise, and the floating island in creme anglaise for dessert. Great wines by the glass and fabulous service.
Great mussels and fries, and large specialty hamburger
The food at Barberet is delicious, creative, and well-prepared. It is not cheap, but it is not overpriced for what it is--which is high-quality, expertly made, rather expensive food.
Since co-owner Cedric Barberet is a pastry chef, desserts are important and should be eaten. Always! Always have dessert. This should be a rule.
Service was a high point of our evening.
Loud patrons were a low point. Maybe because it was a Tuesday.
Anyway, it was a lovely night overall, and we'll go back. We live within walking distance, so maybe we'll walk so we can justify dessert... Hmm. Either way, we will go as often as we can. You should, go, too.
We really enjoyed our dinner. The mussels, short ribs and steak frites were all delicious. The flavor of the short ribs was amazing moist and tender. A definite must try if you enjoy short ribs Service was good and dessert was awesome with the house made chocolate sauce on the profiterole.
Excellent as usual!
Bistro Barberet never misses. We had the Quenelle De Brochet as an appetizer. It is something like a soft bread infused with tiny bits of shrimp and gruyére. Heavenly. We both had the 72 hour grilled short rib. Perfect. Even the warm bread (shipped in from Paris we were told) was exceptional. We had a bottle of Cote du Rhone and it was awesome as well. It was our Anniversary and it was just what we needed. Hurrah for Bistro Barberet.
Great food and nice portions. Very attentive, helpful and friendly service.
Food was outstanding. I think it was the best burger I’ve ever had and my husband was quite impressed with the short ribs.
The food is consistently delicious and always elegantly served and presented. The restaurant is perfect for quiet conversations and a date. Bring a wrap, as the air conditioning can feel uncomfortably cold.
The service was slow and the food was good but not great. May get better as everything opens and gets more stable.
We realize the pande,ic has forced many restaurants to cut back on the quality of food as they were no longer getting the crowds. That was not so with Barbaret. When we decided it was time to forget COVID and return to the world, Barbaret was out choice.
Graduation brunch-very unusual that everybody at our table loved their meal. Excellent food and service
Excellent breakfast pastries, dark roast coffee (but really good dark roast!) and chicken sandwiches. Will be back!
When you walk in, the bakery is super impressive. We had lunch in the bistro. Escargot, beef tartare, the house soup, and the croque monsieur. All of it was absolutely delicious. We ended with crème brûlée for dessert! We went back later that night for desserts from the bakery all of which were outstanding. (Lemon tart and chocolate pecan tart were out favorite!)
Very nice lunch menu, excellent and cordial service, super bakery packed with mouth watering French pastries. A bit on the noisy side as the restaurant started to fill. Thanks for following the state and federal Covid guidelines.
I would have given 5 stars across the board except for the WiFi kept under lock and key as a state secret. Our server was excellent and was quite regretful that she could not supply the password. The cellular connection was nearly nonexistent and unfortunately my husband and I really need to be able to be in touch with the outside world due to our business.
Great service, and excellent drinks and food! Would defend go again!
Kayla as always was attentive and pleasant. She is an epic addition to an already fantastic restaurant
The food was terrific and the waitstaff were soooo nice and accommodating. The atmosphere is great and quiet enough to hear your friends talk! We loved the meal and will be back soon.
I have eaten here many times, and same great atmosphere, great food. and great service. My clear favorite in Lancaster considering that there's quite a bit of competition nearby.
I've had everything on the menu up to this point except the salmon, so I gave it a try. It was very prepared, great flavor too, but the star of the dish was the fabulous sauce with cauliflower in it.
Always consistent and always enjoyable.
Both our dinners were excellent.
My wife and I were able to enjoy a very romantic evening at Bistro Barbaret. The cuisine was excellent -- great variety of choices, expertly prepared!
The service was top notch without being intrusive.
This is one of our favourite places to dine in Lancaster!!
We were delighted with our server Alex and our food selections were fabulous. If I were to identify one thing that needs improvement...the Old Fashion.
Loved our experience. Will recommend this to anyone who asks.
Delicious food and delightful wait staff. I plan to go back soon!
Another delicious, relaxing lunch date. Our favorite place.
Lovely introduction to your beautiful restaurant, as we celebrated my daughter’s 21st with cocktails & dessert.
Will return for dinner with friends, who will equally love the beautiful ambiance (please consider candles on tables), authentic food and thorough service! Thank you!
Superb, classic service. Peaceful, streamlined room and ambiance. Traditional French cuisine, great wine list. A gem in Lancaster.
All aspects of the experience were excellent!
Wonderful place : great food, amazing team. Feeling at home !
Wedding anniversary. They acknowledged with a small gift. Server was very good. Purchased desserts to take home. They were not as good as the meal.
Always a good place for any occasion at Barberet. The quality of food and drinks match the reasonable pricing for a French bistro and the warm ambiance adds to the experience. What elevates this restaurant further are the exquisite and delicately composed pastry offerings by the chef. The patisserie by itself is reason enough to visit and for locals to support this Lancaster gem.
Limited menu if you don't eat pork, but what was offered was almost all outstanding and delicious.
One caveat : Would not recommend the "fish dumpling" appetizer. The flavors and textures with its sauce -- independently could be good but not complimentary together. Very lovely experience altogether, though.
Amazing food! We will be back!
Bistro Barberet is always a treat! Great selection of classic french dishes prepared perfectly. There is such a variety that you can eat there weekly and never have the same thing twice. The staff and owners are always glad to see you and go out of their way to stop by your table to welcome you with a friendly hello.
They have been diligent throughout the pandemic practicing all that is required for a safe eating experience.
If I had to choose my favorite restaurant in all of Lancaster it would be Bistro Barbaret. Don't miss it!!!!!
They were either super short-staffed, or our server kept getting lost, but it took forever to order drinks, then food, and then forever to get a check. We had to beg a food runner who brought our appetizer for bread as we had requested. The food was fine for most of the table, though the mussels had a not-so-great ammonia odor and flavor unfortunately. All told, brunch took 3 hours- their pastry and chocolates are amazing, I just expected the dining experience to match. We will stick to the front dessert/pastry case from here on.
First time having lunch here and it was delicious and good value!
Delicious. Rosti potato and the Barbaret Martini were perfection.
A very disappointing experience in lieu of prior times where it was much better. We arrived at 7:55pm and there was a sign up stating "section closed" in front. The girl working up front was dimissive to us and said they don't open until 8pm so come back. It was very strange and poor customer service. We went outside and back back in at 8:05pm and the sign was up and the girl paid no attention to us, and we walked back only to discover a wedding party was going on? We were literally seated in between all these wedding guest and was awkward. The waiter even had a convo about settling a bill with the guests right next to our table which was rude. He also told us "when the craziness dies down, I'll be back to get your order." Did not even take a drink order. Once the wedding party left the restaurant, it was much nicer but our service was horrendous. We had to remind him twice of our wine order to have with our main meal and took about 10 minutes for him to finally get them while our food got cold and he brought entrees to other tables. I will not be going back there again anytime soon.
