Really exciting menu that was able to provide a real tasting experience but at a reasonable cost.
Have been many times and really rate the food - service not good this evening however, one waiter and he only just coping! As said food did lovely but really found the 'helpings' of this Xmas menu tiny ...might be greedy but no bread and not enough vegetables. Will go again but will ask for extra if a small as this...
A nice set menu by Guy. Tasty Japanese style flavours adapted to western cuisine.
Had a fantastic meal at Bistro Guy for husbands birthday. Japanese Fusion is the theme of the food and all of it was delicious, fresh and very tasty. We both opted for 5 dishes which was filling enough and one dish was dessert.
Really nice team lunch (8 of us). I shared a house platter but others had mozzarella toasted sandwiches, & field mushrooms on toast with duck egg & salad. Our only complaint - could have done with a few more chips, but we're a greedy lot & could always do with more. Great service too - would definitely recommend
Worth noting that if you are a party of five or more you will be on a set menu whether you want it or not.
The quality of the food was fantastic.Lots of different flavours.we liked the fact that you could have more courses if you wanted.A good innovative chef.
We found Bistro Guy through open table, and we were over the moon with our evening. The menu was creative and delicious, with each of the 5 tasting plates as good as the last. The waiter was friendly and very helpful, and Guy himself was the same. There is a huge garden which you would never know was there from the front, which is perfect for summer cocktails in the sun!
Would definitely recommend and return on our next visit
Hearty breakfast with very good food and very friendly environment.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, great food, service and hospitality.
Lovely food outstanding value and high quality service
Excellent food prepared by a very skilled local chef. He uses high quality seasonal ingredients. Staff are polite and have a high attention to detail. Definitely worth a visit for special occasions. Even better, the menu changes every month.
We arrived for breakfast, and was very disappointed with the experience. The garden at the back of the cafe was lovely to sit in, but service was slow: it took 45 minutes from order taking to service - how long does it take to cook 2 breakfasts? - and our coffees were cold by the time the food arrived. The ingredients were fresh, but the food was average, and the yolk in the poached egg was hard (ie overcooked). I also think it is expensive overall, and unfortunately will not be going back again.
We were bought a 3 course meal with Prosecco as a gift for my wife passing her dissertation. We had not been to Bistro Guy before but the menu looked interesting and we were served bread with dips as well as a sorbet after the sweet at no extra cost. All the food was delicious, and the sauces with the main courses were extremely tasty and the veg and meat cooked to perfection.
I would only have one complaint; the piano music played through a distorted speaker was painful at times, but I am sure if we had mentioned this at the time it would have been changed, and did not spoil our enjoyment of the food.
Booked because of the option to eat outdoors. The food was superb and the service excellent.
We visited the Bistro Guy to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It had been over a year since we last ate here. I am not sure why as we had such a wonderful meal on the previous occasion too. The food was still as delicious as before. It literally melted in the mouth. The Whitby crab starter was delightful as was the white chocolate cheesecake. The wonderful thing about this restaurant, apart from the fabulous tasting food, is the way the food is presented on the plate just magnificent - it looks almost too good to eat. You can tell the chef really cares about what he is producing and wants to make dining a real gourmet occasion for his customers. We had excellent waitress service too - very friendly and helpful. I cannot praise this restaurant enough and would recommend it to everyone.
Lovely service, good coffee and excellent eggs benedict/royale/florentine - we were impressed with chef's ability to turn out 12 hot and perfect poached eggs at once! American pancakes were also lovely. Nice sociable feel to the place. Beautiful garden - shame it was too cold to sit out there. Will come back when it's warmer!
We were greeted with a warm welcome and the waitress remained pleasant all evening. There was a good choice of food. We had three courses. The black pudding and chorizo starter was delicious and the lemon posset dessert was to die for! Definitely recommend and will return.
First time to Bistro Guy and we'll definitely be back. It's a small restaurant but it's proper quality food this. The mushroom scotch egg to start was ace! Hake with samphire was top notch with great attention to detail on the garnish: just the right level of acidity and saltiness. Beef and ale pie had a thin suet crisp top and honey roast veg. Yum!
The small menu changes monthly which gives you a good excuse to visit regularly. Our bottle of white was excellent too and service was exemplary.
Lovely small bistro. Would definitely go back when next in York.
Friendly staff nice atmosphere
Delicious home-cooked food and very pleasant service.
Chose Bistro Guy from websitereviews. Looking for a relaxed, quiet setting to enjoy good quality food; something a little different. We were not disappointed. The service was excellent and the atmosphere chilled. The meal was an unusual but nevertheless delicious blend of sumptuous flavours and went down a treat. Many thanks for a memorable experience.
What a lovely bistro. I originally went for breakfast because we could take the dog if we sat outside. It was so good we came back for dinner. The food was fantastic, the ambiance was lovely and the staff were friendly but unobtrusive.
We went on a Friday night for an early bird meal having been impressed by brunches here earlier in the summer. Very friendly and the food was great. Only reason why ambience lower is we were the only ones in the restaurant. Otherwise great night and would recommend it.
Great meal at Bistro Guy! They serve seasonal food so the menu changes every month. The food was cooked to perfection and tasted very fresh. To top it all off the service was brilliant...very friendly. So glad we listened to the reviews on tripadvisor!
