A British neighbourhood Bistro where the menu is made up of British Classics; changing seasonally to reflect the best of our indigenous ingredients.
We welcome reservations, for Brunch/Lunch or Dinner, please call us if the time you want is not available.
I wouldn’t recommend the bistro based on the Sunday roast we had. It was pretty average to be honest in comparison to The Windmill nearby for example.
Really delicious food. Nice buzzy atmosphere I am told that being able to buy draft beer is a huge plus!
This place never disappoints. Fresh seasonal produce - the radishes with cod roe are lovely, oysters were delicious. Skate was a large thick chunk, perfectly cooked. Service was attentive and they advised on menu choices. Presentation slightly updated since my last visit (too long ago) - standard menus instead of the quirky school books. Hope to be back soon.
Lovely staff and ambience with a great small plate selection. The tiny amount of duck in the cassoulet main course was disappointing, which made £20 for the privilege a little hard to swallow!
Otherwise, great little place!
We had a delightful dinner with friends at Bistro Union. Service, food and ambience were all excellent.
Decided to go to Bistro Union last minute and for a Sunday night it was surprisingly busy so had a good atmosphere. Food and drinks were excellent with really friendly and knowledgeable staff. Will be back again soon !
I am not one for bad reviews, but good Lord this place SUCKED. The portions were TINY - so tiny in fact that we complained to the manager, and she realized that she couldn't justify charging us £10 for literally 11 pieces of pasta, and comped us a free dish. The cassoulet was so average it was painful, literally a pot of badly seasoned beans and dry duck, and not a hint of the richness the dish calls for. Plus they ended brunch at 12, which is such a peasant move cause IT'S SUNDAY! Will not be returning, can't believe we even paid for our bill at all.
Overpriced breakfast and not great service
Delicious food, great service and always a nice buzz.
Restaurant had a nice relaxed vibe, service was pleasant although slightly over-attentive at the start as we had to ask for more time to choose drinks and food on 2 occasions.
Starters were well executed, chicken and duck liver parfait was very nice. Main course of the duck cassoulet was a little underwhelming, all the individual elements were well cooked but the dish was missing something to bind it all together.
Overall, simple unfussy cooking executed to a good standard but missing some finishing touches that would really elevate the food.
Bistro Union is a wonderful restaurant. Took the parents and my GodMother here for lunch they loved it. Food was delicious, staff are friendly and helpful, the restaurant itself is beautifully decorated as well. If you live in Clapham you must try them out, you won't regret it!
Good place for a pre cinema supper.
Interesting menu but lacks greens and fruit.
The Gents Loo needs sorting!!
Food was okay but not great. Noise levels got worse as meal progressed and I can recite word for word what the table next to me were talking about. Not sure I would go again.
Great food, service, setting.
V kid friendly.
Good for literally everyone.
Delicious food and *excellent* service, would totally recommend!
Everything was very nice, however a baby changing facility would mean that we can come more often.
Great little restaurant tucked away - blink and you’d miss it, but once you get inside it’s deceptively large. . The food is lovely and the staff helpful and friendly. I met friends for brunch and we had a great experience with lovely food. I will definitely be going back here
I have eaten twice at Bistro Union in the past fortnight; it is excellent.
The rabbit was as good as it gets and the service professional.
The 500 cl carafes of wine are great value.
Try it! You will like it....
A great place in a great location. Perfect for a casual evening with friends.
The sharing plates are enormous, easily suitable for 3, and even 4 once you have added veg
Love this restaurant, always great good and lovely service. The interesting menu keeps every visit exciting! The roasts on Sundays are delicious. Our table of 6 diners were all extremely happy with their food and afternoon out! Thank you.
Waiter was very rude. Food was lovely however due the waiter being very pretentious it ruined the experience. I ordered the bavette and he argued with me about how I wanted it cooked which I didn’t appreciate.
Great food. Great Service. Good wine. What more to ask for?
You expect the noise level to be high in restaurants nowadays and this was no exception. Our food was good...lovely to have fresh skate wings and the sauce was delicious...the sorbet was excellent as well. Service was non intrusive but we waited quite a while for our main course because we did not order a starter. We are lucky to have good food available on Abbeville road.
Excellent as always. Fresh ingredients. Friendly staff. Very reasonable prices.
Lovely breakfast, friendly service, thanks for a nice brunch!
I have wanted to come here for ages and when I finally did they did not disappoint. Excellent food and charming staff - a pretty perfect evening.
If I notice what music is playing in a restaurant it generally means it's too loud. It's usually there to keep the staff happy or make you eat and drink more because you can't talk! I've been to BU and Trinity many times and have never noticed the music but on this occasion, it was loud and it felt like the Christmas party playlist (i.e. 70s/80s disco favourites) had not been replaced by something more fitting for a Wednesday in January! Generally, the evening was fine but just a little lacklustre. I will still return and am sure enjoy more dinners here but felt a little let down as we'd taken a friend and highly recommended you
One special, a macaroni cheese variation, was delicious, but the beef brisket, which was the other special, was a little greasy. The chicken and duck liver parfait was fine. The chargrilled Bavette was good, but the chimchurri with it was a little acidic and vinegary. Service was extremely pleasant and helpful. House red was fine and decent value.
The food was very good but because of changes to menus I don’t think this restaurant is as child friendly as it used to be. The dish served for our 3 year old was far too rich/buttery and they should think about bringing back the children’s menu of sausage/fish and chips! We love the restaurant but unfortunately it just means that we are less likely to go here as regularly.
We had travelled from Guernsey to meet our family for a meal on the occasion of our 50th wedding anniversary. To avoid the crowds in central London and because Bistro Union was highly recommended by a friend we booked a table. We were not disappointed. We were warmly greeted , the service throughout was excellent but at the same time friendly and casual. The small menu ( always reassuring in my opinion) was different and imaginative and the food was superlative. I could not fault the food or the service even though, at the apero' stage our young lady waitress miss-heard my request for radishes and fish roe and brought a glass of red wine. I couldn't bring myself to point out her error, perhaps my annunciation was faulty! I was a little shocked at the "mark-up" on the wines but I guess that applies everywhere nowadays. I asked for a Calvados as a digestive and was offered an English cider-brandy. Well done for that , I'm all for local produce, there is far too much food and wine being shipped from country to country. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, thank you Bistro Union.
Love this spot. Delicious food. Great service. Delightful staff
Interesting menu, good quality food. Slightly expensive but didn't begrudge them. Nice atmosphere. Staff friendly without being intrusive.
We didn’t have the best experience at Bistro Union - to begin with we were sat in between two very loud tables which I appreciate is not the restaurants fault and they did accommodate a move for us.
Our waitress seemed to forget about us after taking our initial water order and I had to ask if we could order (despite her standing and folding napkins).
The waitresses seemed quite new and having been there myself I do understand the pressures of working in the restaurant but it was small things that they couldn’t quite get right - they bought us our chips as our small plates were being cleared and way before our main plates arrived. We later found out they were meant for another table.
They forgot us asking for a new bottle of water.
The manager made up for it though and she was lovely!! Very professional and friendly and helped make the experience a bit better.
I’d go back though for sure!
Booked Bistro Union as a last minute Sunday catch up with friend. So glad I did! The staff looked after us very well and answered all our questions. The menu has so many lovely choices and all the food we had was wonderful! Will definitely return
Booked for a roast dinner and was not disappointed - had it's own twist and tasted great. Will definitely be going back to try more of the menu.
Bistro Union is my favourite local restaurant. & I’ve eaten there many times. It’s an informal environment, serving tasty imaginative food. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable & efficient & Olly calmly keeps everything together.
Portion size too small especially pastas dish.
A nice ambience and an enjoyable experience. Great service, very attentive, and one of the two mains was delicious (pigeon breast). However, the confit duck was a underwhelming and unfortunately left much of the meat dry and greasy. Overall would try again but hope for a dish up to the standard of the pigeon.
This restaurant never disappoints. The service is standout. Will return.
Good food, lively atmosphere but not too loud, smart/casual dress.
