I have wanted to come here for ages and when I finally did they did not disappoint. Excellent food and charming staff - a pretty perfect evening.
If I notice what music is playing in a restaurant it generally means it's too loud. It's usually there to keep the staff happy or make you eat and drink more because you can't talk! I've been to BU and Trinity many times and have never noticed the music but on this occasion, it was loud and it felt like the Christmas party playlist (i.e. 70s/80s disco favourites) had not been replaced by something more fitting for a Wednesday in January! Generally, the evening was fine but just a little lacklustre. I will still return and am sure enjoy more dinners here but felt a little let down as we'd taken a friend and highly recommended you
One special, a macaroni cheese variation, was delicious, but the beef brisket, which was the other special, was a little greasy. The chicken and duck liver parfait was fine. The chargrilled Bavette was good, but the chimchurri with it was a little acidic and vinegary. Service was extremely pleasant and helpful. House red was fine and decent value.
The food was very good but because of changes to menus I don’t think this restaurant is as child friendly as it used to be. The dish served for our 3 year old was far too rich/buttery and they should think about bringing back the children’s menu of sausage/fish and chips! We love the restaurant but unfortunately it just means that we are less likely to go here as regularly.
We had travelled from Guernsey to meet our family for a meal on the occasion of our 50th wedding anniversary. To avoid the crowds in central London and because Bistro Union was highly recommended by a friend we booked a table. We were not disappointed. We were warmly greeted , the service throughout was excellent but at the same time friendly and casual. The small menu ( always reassuring in my opinion) was different and imaginative and the food was superlative. I could not fault the food or the service even though, at the apero' stage our young lady waitress miss-heard my request for radishes and fish roe and brought a glass of red wine. I couldn't bring myself to point out her error, perhaps my annunciation was faulty! I was a little shocked at the "mark-up" on the wines but I guess that applies everywhere nowadays. I asked for a Calvados as a digestive and was offered an English cider-brandy. Well done for that , I'm all for local produce, there is far too much food and wine being shipped from country to country. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, thank you Bistro Union.
Love this spot. Delicious food. Great service. Delightful staff
Interesting menu, good quality food. Slightly expensive but didn't begrudge them. Nice atmosphere. Staff friendly without being intrusive.
We didn’t have the best experience at Bistro Union - to begin with we were sat in between two very loud tables which I appreciate is not the restaurants fault and they did accommodate a move for us.
Our waitress seemed to forget about us after taking our initial water order and I had to ask if we could order (despite her standing and folding napkins).
The waitresses seemed quite new and having been there myself I do understand the pressures of working in the restaurant but it was small things that they couldn’t quite get right - they bought us our chips as our small plates were being cleared and way before our main plates arrived. We later found out they were meant for another table.
They forgot us asking for a new bottle of water.
The manager made up for it though and she was lovely!! Very professional and friendly and helped make the experience a bit better.
I’d go back though for sure!
Booked Bistro Union as a last minute Sunday catch up with friend. So glad I did! The staff looked after us very well and answered all our questions. The menu has so many lovely choices and all the food we had was wonderful! Will definitely return
Booked for a roast dinner and was not disappointed - had it's own twist and tasted great. Will definitely be going back to try more of the menu.
Bistro Union is my favourite local restaurant. & I’ve eaten there many times. It’s an informal environment, serving tasty imaginative food. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable & efficient & Olly calmly keeps everything together.
Portion size too small especially pastas dish.
A nice ambience and an enjoyable experience. Great service, very attentive, and one of the two mains was delicious (pigeon breast). However, the confit duck was a underwhelming and unfortunately left much of the meat dry and greasy. Overall would try again but hope for a dish up to the standard of the pigeon.
This restaurant never disappoints. The service is standout. Will return.
Good food, lively atmosphere but not too loud, smart/casual dress.
VERY POOR. ONE HOUR WAIT FOR OUR MAIN COURSE WHICH WAS SO SMALL AND VERY DISAPPOINTING. THE SERVICE WAS WAY TOO LONG AND THE STAFF FRIENDLY BUT NOT PROFESSIONAL. WE HAD TO ASK FOR WATER AND BREAD OVER AND OVER AND THE EXCUSE FOR THE ONE WAIT WAS 'SORRY, THE KITCHEN IS VERY BUSY'. NOT RECOMMENDING THIS PLACE.
Great little bistro. Prompt friendly service. Only gave 4 stars for food as we shared the 'whole mallard' and wondered where the rest of it was - most ducks we've ever seen are more than 2 breasts and 2 legs. Despite this it was delicious and we would definitely return. Maybe the menu could be re-worded?
We went to Bistro Union for brunch and had a great time. Couldn't fault the service or food!
Delicious food and not overly fussy. Good sized portions and extremely tasty. Service very good.
Excellent food and excellent service. Staff very knowledgable and attentive. Would recommend.
They've certainly up their game in the kitchen in over respects the same as before with friendly and efficient service and lively, good to see them full midweek, they are obviously getting it right now.
Absolutely delicious food, always has a slightly quirky menu but every dish is always delicious and its fun ordering something slightly unusual. staff are super friendly, have good local craft beers and can order wine by the carafe too if you don't fancy a full bottle but more than a glass!
Great food and friendly staff - really loved the octopus cassoulet. Amazing bread from Combeshead farm.
We had a delicious lunch which we had chosen because of the experiences we have had at Trinity. The service and food was excellent.
Always a great welcome for our family - love Sunday Supper Club!
Great service from the attentive and friendly staff, good wine recommendations. Delicious food
Excellent meal - very relaxed setting, will most definitely be returning soon!
Always good, always welcoming. A personal favourite venue.
Great venue, food and service
Particularly enjoyed the starters menu. Good variety and all delicious.
Good food, fun atmosphere. Nice setting
Always a great time with excellent and imaginative food. Staff are really friendly and attentive.
Food was delicious we tried the fish pie. Staff great always looking after us and filling up our glasses with water
We were recommended Bistro Union by friends and had a great evening. The food was excellent and the service first class, we will return.
Food is always superb. On a warm summer's night, some may find the restaurant too hot to enjoy themselves.
Delicious food, excellent service. It’s always a pleasure to go to Bistro Union. Loved the monkfish
a great evening. great ambiance, service, food; all in; a lovely night out- looked after by caring helpful people who seemed to delight in their guests pleasure and enjoyment.
As always the BU team are lovely, welcoming to young and old and attentive without being intrusive. A favourite of ours! Suzi Smith
Went for Sunday brunch with three teenagers. Waited 45 minutes for our drinks to arrive then our food arrived in drive and drabs. The waitress used the excuse that they had had an influx of diners. The place was half empty. Disappointing.
Delicious food and excellent service.
