After a bit of a false start (there is no obvious signage to the restaurant) up two flights of stairs there is no lift; if you have mobility needs then I’m afraid as far as I can see there was no easy means of access.
I’d booked a table for 18:30 as I had needed to eat relatively early.
The restaurant was empty. An old factory or warehouse now repurposed into a restaurant. With a semi ‘open’ kitchen towards the back of the room.
Simple crisp white linen coverings with comfortable black wooden benches and conventional chairs, the panache of the devour is in its simple understatement. Re-enforced by the waiters and waitresses all liveried in the same simple manner. White shirts, white linen aprons over black trousers.
We were seated promptly and I had reserved a table.
The service was excellent, attentive but not over bearing.
I normally don’t go for starters, but on this occasion I had to try the scallops. I was not disappointed cooked to perfection the scallops were melt in the mouth. The dressing garlic butter was the icing on top as it were.
For the main course I had the fish a chips.Advance warning the fish portion is huge! The batter was light and crispy without any hint of greasiness and the fish was done to perfection. It was accompanied by a generous side portion of chips(far too many for me) and served with mushy peas and tartar sauce. Simple cooked to perfection. Best fish and chips that I have had in a long while.
For dessert I had the sorbet (mango) which was a perfect end to a wonderful meal.
Final point the restaurant got very busy l, very quickly from about 7:00pm. It was a Saturday night. I would advise that you book. I suspect that dining early as I did at 6:30 would probably guarantee you a seat. By the time we left about two hours later the place was buzzing with a constant stream of new diners waiting to be seated.
Been here twice recently after rediscovering it after considerable time. Love the buzz and vibrancy of the place - it has great energy, great food and great staff.
Been visiting Bistrotheque for years and they always maintain a good lever of food, service and drinks overall.
Unfortunately ran out of a few items to the busiest and the sundae desert was a bit of a let down but everything else was delicious
Really lovely quiet and wonderful food bu my date for meh! 😂
It’s fun! And food is excellent.
I really liked Bistro. We went there for my birthday to celebrate with my friends for brunch. Good selection of dishes for brunch and also lunch for those who wanted something else. The food was delicious and the ambiance very nice with the piano on the background. I would just say that maybe they will need to improve some sound isolation as sometimes you couldn't heard the piano because of the general noise.
Need to step up taste and quality of food, been here three years in a row, this is below expectations !
Perfectly perfect in every way. I have always loved this place and it just keeps getting better and better. Great food, fabulous staff and ideal ambience.
Main courses were tasty and really nice, but disappointing of paying nearly £10 for a side salad.
Then, services can be improved, waitresses were not focus in what they were doing... taking starters plates before starter even arrived, or taking finished main course of one of the people before the other finishes, and leaving one person finishing his dish in a rush.
Fancy place, perfect for speacial occasions and really tasty and good food.
Lovely neighbourhood gem run by a group of Frenchies that really know how to run a trendy-lunch joint that is uniquely Bethnal Green. Food was good but nothing extraordinary, and the blood mary I had could be slightly improved. However, staff were professional but warm, and music was upbeat and cheerful.
Love Bistrotheque however The French toast was not as good as I was expecting and unlike any French toast I’ve ever come across! However still tasty, but not as good as usual brunches I’ve had.
Bistrotheque is a fun dining spot, perfect for a quick bite or a long dinner. Just the venue and its atmosphere alone are worth the tube ride.
Really great place. The food was very good and our waitress were very kind. On my thing, the room is very noisy
Tucked away you almost don't know it's there! Really great venue and interesting food. Loved it
This is the 2nd time I have been to Bistrotheque and am a big fan of Hoi Polloi their sister property at Ace too.
The atmosphere is light and bright and friendly, the food is fab, I had the Bistrotheque breakfast and my boyfriend the French Toast and both were fab!
Service is really fun too, shout out to Mar!!!!
We have booked back in for hangover brunching on New Years Day and I can't think of a better way to kick start 2019! See you soon!
Food was good as always however BF was slightly disappoint that when paying that amount for eggs benedict you can’t get your eggs cooked the way you asked for them (he likes his eggs well poached so not runny)
Excellent service, lively welcoming ambience, well-chosen menu and quality cooking and preparation.
Bit hard to find but once indoors service is amazing, really lovely people and great fresh exciting food. Compliments to manager Julio and Valentino, our waiter.
Booked for a group meal with housemates. Fantastic service as usual. All had starter and mains, great wine pairing and a few cocktails. Reasonably priced for the quality and service provided.
Only the table for 11 people was a bit cramped. Other than that great choice fir Dinner and group reservations.
It wasn’t the best experience this time on a very busy Sunday brunch. I’ve been here before and the food and service is really good. On this one occasion when I booked in advance for 5 people for brunch, the fryer had broken down which they were kind enough to call me as soon as they could to warn about. But they were extremely busy and therefore were less attentive. The food arrived nearly 1 hour after we ordered. Some of the food arrived cold and a mix up with the sides led to us not receiving our sides. We reordered then but some had run out. The lady who served us was very apologetic and did not charge us for anything and assured that the experience we had was not typical of the place. I agree. I’d go again and hopefully what we experienced this time won’t be repeated.
Camilla the manager was incredible! Silicons vegetarian brunch, great service in great setting 🔥🔥🔥
Very cool ambience in this open plan old warehouse restaurant, with bar, tables and kitchen all wrapped together. Great!
Repeat visit! Always great serves and fantastic food!
Food was fantastic, but service was a bit slow and menu a bit pricey.
I love this place! Food is always great and service impeccable!
Great time and great service
We used to go to Bistrotheque for special occasions. The food was a bit on the pricey side but nice quality.
Yesterday we left still hungry, after a full English breakfast that had nothing special to it. Two tiny rashes of bacon, one tasteless sausage, beans and dried potatoes. One small and thin slice of dry bread cut in two...
The noise level was terrible.
We will not come again, unfortunately.
Love this place, delicious food and great atmosphere. Service not as good as usual.
Sunday night dinner - not as I expected.
The service was extremely slow although the restaurant wasn’t busy at all. About the food, really nothing special for the price! I think the place is a bit overrated... but I will give it a second chance for brunch.
The atmosphere is great, but the food tasted average and overpriced. I ordered eggs florentine with spinach substituted for avocado, but the food was cold when it arrived on the table, and the bread they served it tasted stale around the edges. The avocado was cut into huge pieces, and had clearly just come out of the fridge so made the dish cold. I would have preferred they said they couldn't substitute than serve me the way they did.
It's a really great venue but the food is very average, and I think it is overpriced. They really need to reform their kitchen.
Loved this place, very stylish, food was very very good and service excellent!
Fantastic venue. Amazing light and pleasant atmosphere....but the food is a delusion.
Very cool spot! The staff was very friendly, a bit on the slow side but it was very busy. Excellent food - portions, presentation and flavor. A++
Service was lacking with its indifference. Otherwise a good effort
First time dining at the bistrotheque and I must say the ambience was very nice, service was attentive. The only negative aspect is the Tartare we had, I found it wasn't great. The oysters on the other hand were good. Overall satisfied
We went on Sunday dinner at around 7pm for a birthday celebration. The food was great and the staff serving our table (with an Italian accent!) is very polite and patient. We ordered Steak Tartare and Roast Cod as mains and both taste delicious. Would try their cocktails next time.
We enjoyed the warehouse space and cocktails were quite good. However, unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The fries were soft and cold, grilled cod fish amd beef tartare was over seasoned and salty and the miso corn had a sour tang. We wanted to thank the staff for taking the feedback well and explained that for dinner service they had 3 new cooks. We had the cost of mains deducted from out overall bill which was appreciated. However, cold soft fries was almost unforgivable.
We went for the £25 prix fix menu before 7pm and I was truly stuffed by the end of it. Quality of the food was great, staff were really friendly and attentive, and overall it was a great evening.
Entrance is a little bit hard to find - follow the outdoor lights, turn left and then right to get to some stairs. Up the stairs and you'll see the bar through the window in the door.
