Really difficult to review- the service was friendly, the food tasted great but seemed unorganised- wrong food coming out, long wait between sides arriving and then main. Liked the atmosphere, so really should be a great review but it was definitely lacking organisation/management. Not sure if the kitchen was just badly run as front of house can’t do much about when food is ready, but food quality, flavour and presentation was excellent so hard to mark down the chefs!
Would recommend and hopefully our visit/experience was out of character.
I never give 5 stars for everything but this was truly superb!
Excellent service at the Black Roe restaurant, good food, fantastic cocktails and overall a positive and memorable experience. If you have a special occasion coming up, I recommend you book a table at this place!
I have never eaten as many special food as here. Not just the food, but the drinks were delicious and amazing as well!
Excellent evening!! Opt for one of the tasting menus.
Delicious food, great service.
We were a group of 8 and they did an amazing job of looking after us, not to mention how incredible the food was. I loved the crispy chicken and asparagus! Sorry we missed out on dessert.
One of my favourites in london!
Lovely restaurant with delicious food what more can you ask for.
Food comes at a reasonable time.
The cocktails was okay would recommend the Fiji pornstar martini.
Waiters rushed to food to us between starters and main course
Lobster Mac 'n' Cheese was amazing. And chocolate fondant was the icing on cake. Staff were extremely friendly and made an effort for my wife's birthday.
Took my mum there to celebrate my birthday (thanking her for my existence). The service was excellent, and the ambience was great. We went for the bento boxes and they were delicious and filling. My mum doesn't eat beef, and the kitchen was happy to swap a beef dumpling with something else for her, which is the type of service and flexibility I'd expect from an establishment like this. I only have a little upset with this place and that is the use of coriander. It's a very personal thing, I am that 1% of people who hate the herb and they use it in quite a lot of dishes, which I didn't expect. I am returning with friends at the end of the month and I will be sharing a lobster M&C with a friend - I hope there will be no coriander there!
The whole experience was brilliant. Well looked after by the maitre’d, waitress but more especially the chef Daniell. He made an exquisite meal bringing all the flavours of the Pacific rim into delicious 12 course chef menu!
the food was excellent and the venue has a great fell to it. There is a great choice available and the fusion within each of the dishes is excellent.
Great atmosphere even though we went early and the restaurant wasn’t full; and delicious food! Love the Dover sole!
Staff are great and welcoming, however the value for money is very poor. Nearly £400 for 4 and the portions were small. The sides could be bigger and maybe with the cocktails - make it less about the drama and more about the value?
However as I said the staff are great and this is the second time I’ve been. I wouldn’t recommend though due to value
After being seated in a tiny booth we asked to get moved and the manager happily coordinated. The decor in the place is sub par but the overall ambience makes up for it. Good food would recommend the Poke but probably won’t be returning anytime soon.
Absolutely beautiful food & amazing service.
I was a bit disappointed with my last visit at Black Roe, the presentation and the quantity of food is not the same. But the Shake n bake has always his reason to be on the menu.
Amazing food amazing service amazing cocktails amazing everything can’t wait to go back
Service was good. Food was good but not outstanding. Not sure what sort of vibe they are going for there as it’s so dark inside (even during the day) and their website gives off the impression it’s quite high end but it isn’t really. They have a private dining room downstairs so I’d consider it again for a bday party in the future.
The shumai gyoza’s, sweet and sour pork and churros were the stand out dishes by far. Attentive staff but tried to up-sell the food with sides. Albeit, great additions they weren’t needed.
The restaurant would definitely benefit from turning up the music and dimming the lights earlier in the evening to create more of an atmosphere but the food was absolutely fantastic and highly reccomend.
Lovely waiters - although I would suggest they are more careful when they discuss other customers in hearing distance of other customers. The manager was very nice and very customer service orientated. We ordered the tuna takati and beef steak tartar for starters. Both were delicious. In fact, could go back to just to have those two dishes. tuna was melt in mouth and the tartar was delicious. The mains were a little more disappointing. My octopus was tough and the portion was tiny. It was so chewy we had to send it back. Apparently, that's how they make it said the chef. Really? i thought - so they basically make it bad. The steak was nice and tender - although wouldn't be the best steak i have had. At just over £30 a portion, I would expect it to be significantly better. The desert was delicious. A massive baileys/chocolate milk shake with meringue and other sugary delights. Two of the waiters that served us were lovely. So service was good. Food good too. A nice lunch.
Average food made even worse by arrogant waiting staff. Literally had our plates cleared twice whilst we were still eating. Asked how the food was and then ignored us when we told them about it.
Lunch offer was excellent value. Food quality very good with some lovely fusion dishes - I wouldn't normally order lobster mac, but this was delicious with a decent amount of lobster. Service very pleasant and helpful - a special thank you to the lovely barman who made us a really good, unusual cocktail. Will definitely go back.
It was unexpectedly fabulous. Would go again to this hidden gem
Great food and service
Amazing food and great service
Great food, tiny portions
Service was outstanding, we had a meal picked out for us and it was delicious.
Dumplings were yummy and different in a good way. prawn tempura light and steak very tasty. The dessert in particular, was lovely!
I really liked my yuzu cocktail and my husbands wine was very nice too.
Amazing seafood restaurant just off Regent St. The octopus was delicious!
Lobster Mac & cheese!!
Throughly enjoyed the food, bar staff great friendly, I felt the waitresses could have been a little bit more attentive but overall a nice night out
Great food, friendly staff and great service
An intimate restaurant for fresh seafood. Cosy and dark - perfect for date nights.
Photos of fishermen who catch us the fresh produce display on the wall. Love the combination of recognition and art concept.
Thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at Black Roe, the service, the food, the drinks. Everything was how it should be. The food was fresh, and I felt extra care was taken when preparing my meals. Would definitely recommend.
My second visit, fabulous food again, but let down towards the end by non-existent service. Service started off very good and helpful, but tailed off dramatically by seemingly getting forgotten- long delay before main, then over half an hour waiting for a frozen dessert with no prep needed. The same happened last time so they need to seriously look at their service (delays between courses getting longer and staff just walking past- had to beg for our sides to come last time). If we had had the same waiter it might have helped, they all seemed to assume someone else was seeing to us? Delay for dessert meant we missed our planned train and had a very late journey home. The promised discount due to my complaint never appeared on the bill either but I just couldn't wait to leave by then. I won't be returning which is a shame as the food was consistently amazing, but I expect much better service for that amount of money.
Certainly one of the best places to eat in London. It's stylish with great decor, but the service is genuine and extremely smooth. It has a wonderfully varied menu that offers outstanding poke (try the salmon - delicious!), fantastic twists on sushi and sashimi (tuna tacos were flavoursome and delicate), and heartier main meals such as black bean beef. The beef was tender as candy floss and served in bite-size cubes on a plate, drizzled in sauce. It was rich, but the portion size is perfect and you aren't overwhelmed. We love Black Roe. Love it!
Quite a quirky place. The Tuna Tataki was incredible! Food was good, had the crazy pancake dessert would have been better if the pancakes were fresh and not from the freezer/fridge. The tables for two in between the restaurant were too big, we felt too far away from each other, and I think the staff feel it too, especially since the waiters had been knocking out the guest sitting behind us apparently for the “fifth time” 😂. Bathrooms are too dark and need to be a bit more cleaner please. Would be great if you’d offer stools or bag clip table hangers.
Great service and great food, definitely recommend. The Bramble cocktail was amazing too.!
