Definitely recommend the tasting menus, great variety, quality and plenty of food. Seating is quite intimate, so can be quite loud depending on neighbouring tables.
Amazing service and excellent food. However, the music was uptempo house music. Not a perfect fit and spoiled what would have been a perfect evening. Oh well
Lovely upmarket venue for delicious food and drinks. Service was good and friendly and they accommodated to dietary requirements. Good selection of cocktails and delicious wine.
Food and wine are ridiculously expensive.
Very tasty but not worth it
We got the lunchtime Bento boxes along with some tempura, prawn tacos and garlic fries.
All the food we had here tasted unbelievably good. In hindsight we should have got the taster menu to try more items as it's quite rare to enjoy everything that you're served!
Will definitely come back.
Lunch, it was just ok. The food was warm and not hot and Fresh.
This is the 2nd time I've been and sadly it wasnt as good as the 1st...
Food the both my wife and I ordered was not particularly great...maybe bad ordering...
It seemed that service was super slow too - it wasnt particularly busy.
I did get a nice birthday treat with dessert (when it eventually came).
A bit of a shame really as my 1st experience was a lot better
Had the tasting menu
Enjoyed all the items except the beef. Not that it wasn't splendid but it wasn't to our liking.
Chef was pleasant and stopped by to say hello.
Overall i liked it. I dont think it would be a repeat dining experience though...but it's more because it's London, there's lots tp explore
Went for an evening out with friends, the restaurant is very nice, and in a great location, the food was good quality, as was the service,
Starters were great. Mains not that special. Service was really good. Decor and ambience is special !
This was for my birthday and it was so good - the tacos were inhaled, the lamb was perfectly cooked. My friend said that the octopus was the best she had ever tasted...nice and tender. The only disappointments I had was the fact that the fries came with butter - lactose intolerance is a cross I have to bear - and that the wine was keenly priced, especially when it goes from a glass straight to a bottle. Maybe a carafe to lessen the blow a bit in between. We are definitely coming back - in December for our Christmas soiree, I might even try and get our team over there. The waiter was lovely - apologies I don't know his name but he's from Spain - and took my threats to kidnap the chef and keep him for myself in good humour!
Was never given our cutlery to eat our food after asking a number of times. Drinks arrived after we had finished our meals even though we asked for our drinks numerous times. Mains arrived without the sides, by the time the sides arrived our mains were cold or finished. Really terrible service.
Rushed to bring us every dish of the tasting menu. No explanation as to what dish was what. Just thrown down on the table. Once we had all the food - most of which went cold whilst we ate it as all brought closely together, the service then stopped and plates remained on the table for nearly an hour. Unimpressed by food and service. Won’t be returning
Staff were excellent and attentive. Pork is amazing
Most of us chose the very extensive set menu 1 - food was a mix : some things like the Poke style bowl and the desserts were excellent whereas things like the gyoza were overwhelmed by the cherry sauce. Overall, a good experience - unobtrusive service and a wide range of things to try.
The staff were fantastic - very friendly and helpful. But... either the kitchen is way understaffed or it is very poorly organised.
We ordered 6 sharing dishes between 2. Each dish came out one at a time with a long long wait between courses... we were literally twiddling our thumbs between courses. I asked to cancel the last 2 courses as it was getting late but was told they were on their way....
Another of these hypes which is clearly over rated.
We arrived at the restaurant on time. The manager was standing there in front of his reservation screen, on the phone and we were standing right in front of him. But nothing happened. Either we were invisible or he did not care. After a good 7/8 minutes, finally a waitress asked us what we wanted .... well we booked for dinner so i guess the answer was easy.
While seated, it took more then 10 minutes for anyone to ask if we wanted to drink anything. Finally, 15 minutes later the manager comes to our table and say « sorry what is the name for the booking ? » looking at us as if we managed our way in the restaurant on a false name.
Food was ok but frankly nothing special.
Around 9:00pm (exactly 2h after the time of the booking) we ask for the dessert menu. The answer was stunning « sorry we cant do chocolate fondant as it would take too long and you are already up your time » seriously ??? We are 300gbp down and we are up our time even though we want to spend more and there are plenty of tables empty?
Once we complained to the manager .. again ... he simply tried to explain that this was the rule
So, Mr Manager, in your business what matters is not to feed people, what matters is the experience, the journey, this is why it is called hospitality business
And this experience was a disaster.
Amazing food and very attentive staff!! Good concept of mix’n’match depending on your tastes and appetite. Will definitely be coming again soon!
Very nice, food is amazing but overpriced for size of portions.
Great food, never disappoints
Service was a little slow, staff super friendly and food was super tasty. I would recommend the beef (so tender) and their pornstar martini was a highlight.
It was our first year anniversary but we were unfortunately rushed for time, we had a lot of plans that day. But the experience was lovely, food was tasty but the service made it, we had a lovely waitress but I didn’t quite get her name. Will definitely be returning, but when we have more time.
The service we received from our waitress was shocking. She kept on misunderstanding our orders. We were indecisive as the menu is very limited and made a change, however when the wrong order was brought and we explained that she made a mistake she completely dismissed us and said she won’t be changing it. Very rude and aggressive. I have never witnessed such behaviour ever. Disgusting. She was so unprofessional she knew we would complain so she ran straight to her manager having a conversation about our situation in plain sight. Another basic customer service skill that both her and her manager lack. Have the conversation in the back where we cannot see your aggressive hand movements whilst speaking about my partner and I. I must say her manager did speak to us to understand. Part of our order did not arrive but we just could not be bothered anymore to request it so we left it. We were not offered cutlery for our lamb chops, we waited about 10 minutes because we were expecting more food which did not come.
Really difficult to review- the service was friendly, the food tasted great but seemed unorganised- wrong food coming out, long wait between sides arriving and then main. Liked the atmosphere, so really should be a great review but it was definitely lacking organisation/management. Not sure if the kitchen was just badly run as front of house can’t do much about when food is ready, but food quality, flavour and presentation was excellent so hard to mark down the chefs!
Would recommend and hopefully our visit/experience was out of character.
Last time we went we had a fantastic evening and were excited to come back but I am not sure what was going on that evening but it was a little hit and miss.
Bar staff was great as per usual, but we had to wait for ages for our food and when food arrived we got 3-4 dishes at the same time. Despite the guests next to us, on either side, who arrived later than us, got their food way before us. We managed to drink a whole bottle of wine before our mains even arrived.
It was a little disappointing - especially considering the size of the bill at the end of the evening.
I never give 5 stars for everything but this was truly superb!
Excellent service at the Black Roe restaurant, good food, fantastic cocktails and overall a positive and memorable experience. If you have a special occasion coming up, I recommend you book a table at this place!
I have never eaten as many special food as here. Not just the food, but the drinks were delicious and amazing as well!
Excellent evening!! Opt for one of the tasting menus.
Delicious food, great service.
We were a group of 8 and they did an amazing job of looking after us, not to mention how incredible the food was. I loved the crispy chicken and asparagus! Sorry we missed out on dessert.
One of my favourites in london!
Lovely restaurant with delicious food what more can you ask for.
Food comes at a reasonable time.
The cocktails was okay would recommend the Fiji pornstar martini.
Waiters rushed to food to us between starters and main course
Lobster Mac 'n' Cheese was amazing. And chocolate fondant was the icing on cake. Staff were extremely friendly and made an effort for my wife's birthday.
Took my mum there to celebrate my birthday (thanking her for my existence). The service was excellent, and the ambience was great. We went for the bento boxes and they were delicious and filling. My mum doesn't eat beef, and the kitchen was happy to swap a beef dumpling with something else for her, which is the type of service and flexibility I'd expect from an establishment like this. I only have a little upset with this place and that is the use of coriander. It's a very personal thing, I am that 1% of people who hate the herb and they use it in quite a lot of dishes, which I didn't expect. I am returning with friends at the end of the month and I will be sharing a lobster M&C with a friend - I hope there will be no coriander there!
The whole experience was brilliant. Well looked after by the maitre’d, waitress but more especially the chef Daniell. He made an exquisite meal bringing all the flavours of the Pacific rim into delicious 12 course chef menu!
the food was excellent and the venue has a great fell to it. There is a great choice available and the fusion within each of the dishes is excellent.
Great atmosphere even though we went early and the restaurant wasn’t full; and delicious food! Love the Dover sole!
Staff are great and welcoming, however the value for money is very poor. Nearly £400 for 4 and the portions were small. The sides could be bigger and maybe with the cocktails - make it less about the drama and more about the value?
However as I said the staff are great and this is the second time I’ve been. I wouldn’t recommend though due to value
