The restaurant serves a classic, gutsy British menu sourcing seasonal produce from local farms and markets accompanied by a large award-winning wine list. It also has an adjoining 50 seat Banquet Hall for private parties and weddings. Above the restaurant is a Cookery School and Wine/Beer/Whisky Tasting Room. See web for events.

Amazing food and great service. We had a lovely anniversary meal and it was made even more special with a complimentary glass of fizz. The staff were friendly and really helpful. We had a great night.
Set lunch offered and excellent range of dishes. We went for the 3 course option and was impressed with the flavours of all courses. Great service from all staff who served food and drinks.
Great value for money, 4 of us ate extremely well on the set menu. Goats cheese starter was beautiful, lobster and crab good, duck egg and cheese starter was excellent.
Fillet, chicken delicious. The fish cakes were nice and the home cooked chips.
Service and staff were superb. Lovely treat.
Was generally wonderful but would love to see more vegetarian options.
Great food in such a beautiful building. Service was great. Wine was delicious.
We've been a few times for dinner during the week or on a Saturday but we'd never tried the Sunday dinner, we loved it. We will defently be back.
Was a bit cold. Food and. Wine were really nice
Could have done with a pianist for some atmosphere.
Beautiful meal in a gorgeous setting. Helpful and friendly staff.
We were impressed with the decor and seated quickly. We decided we wanted the langoustines, but we’re informed that they were all out. We tried to order the oyster sampler and requested alternatives to the smoked fish, but were told we couldn’t. We ordered a Pinot Noir from New Zealand only to be told they were all out.
We ordered the steaks medium-rare and medium. Both were over-cooked and flavorless if not for the sauces.
Despite all these issues, the waiter didn’t even offer us a free dessert. I would not go back.
Unique setting in an old Friary. Delicious food really well presented and tasted delicious. Quite pricey so would only go for a special occasion.
Absolutely amazing food, great to be able to take the dog along and for him to be served his own food to!
The courtyard was booked for a wedding but it was still lovely to sit outside street-side.
Lovely food, great service and nice atmosphere. Definitely be coming back.
It was very thoughtful of you to have an anniversary card on the table when we arrived. Thank you.
Great food as always . First time for dining outside lovely location in the courtyard
Amazing food and service, going to be coming again a lot more!
My wife and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner immensely. Not only was the food well presented and tasty in the extreme but the wine chosen to complement it was superb too. The service was friendly but not intrusive. All in all we loved it.
Amazing service and beautiful food to suit all our dietary restrictions. The perfect restaurant for a special occasion!
Love coming here for lunch. The menu is always excellent as is the food. The staff are helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
My first lunch time visit so it was quite strange to see the restaurant in daylight! I think of it more as a cosy winter venue so it was odd to be there on a bright sunny day but the food was up to the usual high standard and the service was the right mix of friendly without being obtrusive. Its definitley a venue I'll go back to.
Food excellent and great value, service initially superb but not geared up when a large group arrived.
Once again a great quality meal, the presentation and the service was up to the usual high standard that this restaurant sets.
We ate outside under parasols in the grass courtyard. Lovely setting for our daughters graduation lunch. Food superb and catered for all tastes. Excellent value for money.
Really lovely food...we chose options that we wouldn't cook for ourselves. The beef carpaccio starter was spectacular! We started with G&Ts in the bar...very slow...we did wonder if they were short staffed due to Covid. Better service in the restaurant...knowledgeable about the wine. A lovely evening!
An outstanding eating experience. Wonderful presentation and excellent cooking. Delightful service. Blackfriars is one of the gems of Newcastle.
Delicious food, lots of choice and excellent service. Beautiful historical building.
Would recommend the crab & cod fish cakes. Cannot fault anything, my friends all enjoyed their food etc. We were well attended to. Made our day out even more special.
Graduation meal for our daughter. The food was outstanding and very good value. Service was fantastic and we will definitely return.
3rd time here, food just as lovely as on previous occasions.
Great place with amazing food and lovely staff. Thank you.
We have been before and as we were given a voucher as a gift from our son we booked again. Waiting staff were trying hard. We were served quickly but needed to request HOT food as last time it was lukewarm. We had to recall the waiter to request condiments as none were offered. The building is impressive but not the food. A 10% service charge was taken from our voucher without asking and in my option customers should be made aware of this when booking so it gives the option.
Sunday brunch in the courtyard, including dog who lapped up his doggy breakfast double quick. Plenty of choice, reasonable prices, no rush.
Food was nice but we both had a dish where there was an ingredient we didn’t think worked with the dish, still enjoyed the experience.
I think this is the 5th time I've visited, and everytime it's brilliant. The food was 5 stars and delicious, the service from Matt and Ellie was outstanding and deserve special credit, and the overall experience was deserving of 5 stars. Round will be incoming ;)
Wonderful service and experience overall thank you.
Food setting and service was top quality
A really excellent restaurant with first class food and in a city centre yet unique setting.
Amazing menu, very creative dishes, well presented, to a higher standard
Lovely location, I know the weather helped. Friendly attentive staff. We had the set 3 courses for £21, exceptional quality and value for money.
Excellent food and service . Great outdoor setting
The waiter help us to choose the wine and he told us something about each wine
