Outstanding food and service. Disappointed that there was one thing on the menu that was unavailable however was recommended items by the waitress and her knowledge was top class
We had the most delicious meal and fabulous service today! We were celebrating a very special birthday for my father-in-law and the staff went out of their way and added so many special touches (all of which are unprompted). They also made sure my young daughter felt included by bringing rose lemonade in a champagne glass to make a toast. Their knowledge of their food was outstanding. I cannot recommend this restaurant more! Thank you for making our family celebration so special.
Went early Friday evening in January for a birthday treat and it did not disappoint. Service was exceptional, food delicious and choice of drinks superb. I will be back and I hope frequently
This was the first time I’ve been to a restaurant like this and I will definitely go again! The food was amazing and the wine which the waitress recommended with each meal was fantastic!!
Interesting menu & quality was very good
Portions were a little on the small side hence questionable value for money
Guests were 1st timers who were very impressed
A birthday lunch was booked. We were welcomed with a complementary glass of bubbly. We opted for the three course special lunch and were not disappointed. The service was particularly good as our server, Iona, ensured we enjoyed our experience through her personality, attentiveness and recommendations.
we'll be back!
Excellent lunch for 3. Good set menu value. fantastic food, service and ambiance.
Birthday meal - lovely meal and great staff 5**
I ordered Fishcake and Lamb ,my partner Beef --and the waitress suggested we order desserts then as the closing time would interfere if you are arestaurant that purports to be high standard then rushing clients to order 'due to time '' is not protocol
The waitress also suggested the Beef was cooked 'pink' and recommended 'well done' if my partner wished I thought --perhaps the beef had been overcooked and this was pre mitigation
Mains arrived --served both on SOUP bowls --obviously the flat dinner platters were ''in the wash'' -this resulted in ALL the vegetables ,meat and gravy in a mixed up mush and difficult to choose which to eat eat without a mess I tried a piece of my partners Beef and it was TOUGH DRY and tasteless My Lamb was a little better-but nothing outstanding I did not make any comment as this was a special occasion and I was reluctant to spoil it by having a discussion
Bill --£49.06 --which inc 10% service charge --again I was not going to create a scene by querying it --only on return do I see this as''discretionary'
1)If you are closing at a certain time then you should state that --my understanding is LAST ORDERS are 1600
2)Don't rush customers into ordering desserts BEFORE they have eaten their Main
3)If you have overcooked BEEF then dont try and palm it off --Bin it --or make intoBin it --or make into something else
4)Dont just pile the mains onto plates that are devoid of surface area to take it --I can do a better job of presentation at HOME --thats WHY I pay to go to a restaurant -
for ambience ,service and presentation
5)Dont add service charge as a discretionary item --it is OFFENSIVE and in my view too much -as it can spoil an otherwise good experience --if service tip is left to
customers discretion --then staff are more motivated to provide good service and improves /adds value to the psychological contract
The only issue anyone in our group had was that the room was too warm - otherwise, all positive feedback from my 7 guests.
We went to Blackfriars for lunch to celebrate my birthday. We both had the 3 course set menu and the food was excellent. The staff were attentive but not overbearing, and the setting just added to the experience. Would go back!
Food excellent service first class
A superb venue for any form of occasion - unique and intimate.
Really delicious food with excellent service. The cocktails were lovely too. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal out and will definitely be back.
Once again a fabulous dining experience from beginning to end. The staff and food are of the highest quality. Matt was one of our waiters today and his friendly yet professional nature shone through. We both opted for a new chicken dish on the set lunch menu, chicken with black garlic glaze, and this was ultimately one of the best chicken dishes we have ever had. Yum yum. Many thanks for another brilliant meal.
Lovely place to celebrate birthdays
Food is gorgeous
Our first time here and wished we’d been here sooner. Everything about our dining experience was first rate. Will definitely be back on our next visit to the north east.
We went for the early bird set menu, plenty of choice. Quick, professional, polite service from all staff. The food was amazing! Presented lovely and so so tasty! Great value for money. We had a lovely evening, we will definitely be returning.
All the food was lovely except the vegetarian food which was really not good.
As always, a lovely New Year's Eve dinner, with very good food and a cosy atmosphere.
We had a brilliant New Year's eve meal. Gorgeous food. Lovely wine. Great ambiance. And what an amazing place right in the centre of Newcastle. We will be returning many times I would think. Loved it
Ideal for that special occasion, my partner was well impressed & is looking forward to returning in the near future for his daughters graduation
Lovely experience. Fantastic food, beautifully presented and nice ambience.
Perfect venue and never lets us down, it was booked as a special occasion for a 70th birthday and it was all just perfect. Thank you
Great food at this restaurant although a reduced menu for seasonal dishes. Couldn’t fault any of the food - it was all delicious!!
Great food quick service
Few fan heaters on the go which made it a bit too hot but staff quick to turn them off when we said it was too hot.
My husband and I booked here for a meal for our 2nd wedding anniversary. We viewed the menu online and although due to the time of year only the xmas menu was served we both found dishes we liked. The ambiance of this restaurant is perfect for a special occassion. The staff were friendly and attentive and our meals were tasty and well presented. We found it good value for money. The wine list was also varied and well priced.
Our waiter Nicholas was attentive and helpful. The noise level was quiet, but we dined early so the restaurant wasn't full at the time. The food was very good and the best dish was the chocolate delice with coffee sorbet - it was dairy free and allowed my wife to have a yummy dessert for a change. Would certainly recommend the Blackfriars restaurant.
Blackfriars has a lovely ambiance especially at Christmas time. The service was very attentive however I felt that the courses were rushed; all 3 courses had arrived within 50minutes.
We all loved the starters, the scallops were beautifully flavoured and beetroot cured smoked salmon was very tasty. My husband enjoyed the smoked haddock wellington, the duck was also very nice however was cooked “pink” which we were informed about.
Only real disappointment was the plum crumble which was quite watery.
Really enjoyable lunch.Solid tasty cooking from a Festive Menu.Friendly attentive service.
Very good choice of wines by the glass.
All specially praiseworthy as it came in the gap between Christmas and New Year when restaurants can be excused for being “fatigued”.
Thank you all at Blackfriars.
We enjoyed the food menu was limited and don’t really want to eat Xmas dinner on Xmas eve when everyone will be eating that the next day. Also didn’t deliver bread. Bill was incorrect they charged us for dinner instead of lunch but it was rectified once I made them aware. Overall ok needs some ambience very poor for Xmas eve no atmosphere.
Fantastic food in a lovely, traditional environment. Love it here.
Friendly staff, Great food attractively presented. The staff didn't rush you and gave you a breather before the dessert. Nice added touch of a Santa hat.
Very attentive staff, beautiful restaurant and food was divine.
Once again a fantastic experience. Very helpful and friendly staff. Food was delicious as always.
Horrendous main course.. Steak was 60 percent grizzle.
Plum crumble was very dissapointing...served ice cream on boiling hot crumble which melted instantly.
Gave me 6 quid off bill.. How this place has won awards I ll never know.
Love Blackfriars but have to say we were really disappointed in the quality and quantity of the Xmas lunch. It was actually quite laughable how much turkey we were given as the majority of the two small slices were made up of stuffing and because there was so little turkey it was really dry. As for the veg I don’t think one slice of carrot, four sprouts and two of the smallest parsnips and three cremated roasts potatoes is value for money.
Sadly a typical Xmas menu where the starter was good and the main was spoilt by dry, over cooked veg what ch had clearly been warmed up to burn the roof of your mouth temperatures in the microwave. Overpriced compared with normal great value lunches.
We arrived with friends for our annual Christmas meal. Although the food was very good, once the courses commenced, they came in rapid succession and we certainly felt we didn’t have enough time to digest each course before the next one was served. The whole meal was over within one and a half hours. It was a shame that the staff didn’t recognise that this was a special occasion for us and not just a functional meal.
Couldn’t fault it. Ambiance & food were outstanding. Staff very friendly & polite. They couldn’t do enough to make our visit a memorable one.
