This was the third time at Blixen. The food was still delicious, but the presentation of my dish was different, perhaps to hide the portion size, which was noticeably smaller than last time.
It was Sunday brunch so it was busy, but our drinks - a black americano, orange juice and smoothie took 40 minutes to arrive - this was after our food. The service was pleasant but I've marked it down for that ridiculous wait.
Nice ambiance as always but standards definitely seem to have slipped.
Tasty food in a stylish restaurant. Staff were very attentive and friendly.
We had reserved a table for 8:45 and wasn’t seated until 9:30. People that came in off the street received tables quicker than us.
Generally great food and nice ambience but falls a bit flat when your hungry and it doesn’t seem like a big issue in the eyes of the establishment.
The food is really so so, chicken is rather tasteless, caesar was too salty, but the apple and rosemary soda is really tasty.
Great ambiance and lovely food. Our main meal was a bit delayed but the manager was very thoughtful and quick to fix it.
Great brunch and just a lovely venue. Great veggie options too.
Blixen has a great setting - the covered outside area (which has heaters so you can sit outside in winter) is very cosy and romantic, and the bar area is sleek and sophisticated. The service is great - happy, helpful, professional staff. But the food lets this place down. My friend and I ordered what was described as ‘slow cooked lamb, with rose harissa, butter beans and anchovy’ with a side of mash to share. The dish was disappointing; lamb was pulled pork in texture in a stew liquid, with toasted bread on the side. You couldn’t taste the harissa, and the anchovies were overpowering. The mash side (£4) was barely a portion for one person and felt like a rip off. The sticky toffee pudding was underwhelming - a toffee sponge, with very little sauce. With just one glass of wine it was just under £50 each, which felt very expensive given the food. I’d love to like this place, but the food doesn’t stand up.
Lovely setting, staff and food.
first rate breakfast with good food and service and good value - would happily go back for more
Great food and atmosphere. Had brunch at Blixen, the menu wasn't extensive but had some really nice options. Attentive service too
Extremely disappointing visit to Blixen for my partners birthday. Staff were just keen to rush us through, we were told our mains were immediately coming as our starters were taken away. The food was cold and bland and had clearly been on the kitchen pass for the length of our starters. Complained to the restaurant after the meal and have had no response. Not worth visiting!
The starters and sides were very tasty whereas the mains were bit of a disappointment. Nobody in our group liked them very much. Cocktails were very good and desserts ok. Nice atmosphere.
Friendly staff and great tasting food. The rosemary and apple soda is a must-try! This was my first visit and i will definitely be coming back
A vibrant atmosphere with colorful decore gives you a summer feel. Menu was limited and seemed more suitable to those seeking brunch. Staff was friendly and helpful but seemed overwhelmed during peak hours, making it difficult to get their attention.
Service was awful, wine was warm and no one changed it for ages after we asked. And they weren't very attentive and it influence our opinion on the whole evening.
Great location with great menu, beautifully executed and presented. Friendly efficient service and relaxed atmosphere. Super evening, Thankyou!
Nice place, good service but the food is average and needs improvement.
I have a milk allergy and they were very accommodating. Food was super tasty and good value for money. Beautiful setting.
Asked to book the garden. Was given the worst table.
Second time eating at Blixen and certainly ticked all the boxes. My friend loved it too and was impressed with the whole package and the service. Thank you and we will be back!
Beautiful space, but that's all it has to recommend it. Our waitress was completely charming. Smiling, helpful, engaged. Really smashing. We didn't see quite enough of her because the senior "floor" staff kept taking jobs out of her hands. The food was really only average - and my meal was really lukewarm when it arrived. I decided not to send it back as by then the other service staff were revealing themselves to be less than acceptably polite and there seemed little point. The hostess at the door, bit snooty. The senior floor staff were awful. No eye contact, literally. No charm, no smile, no effort to remotely make us feel that our custom was even useful to them. Just slap food on the table and "street 'em". Shocking. I've been working in Shoreditch for six months now and been meaning to try Blixen for much of that time - so beautiful as their space looks and their menu reads well, too. But NEVER again. The staff, with the true exception of our waitress, were controlling in utterly the wrong way. We paid our bill an went somewhere else to extend our evening - we had no desire to drink cocktails at their bar and give them more money.
Nice restaurant, with a good buzz to it. Service was a little slow. Food was ordinary but nice. Wine was expensive.
Disappointed we couldn't sit in the garden even though it was empty
Food was appalling - rushed service, no taste to the starter - tasteless confit trout and breathed on gem lettuce, a coppa dish with pickled onions and capers I could have thrown together myself, a salad which was dressed with water and a crab pappardelle dish with no crab and thick, undercooked pappardelle which I sent back to the kitchen.
Style over substance and poorly executed.
Service was saved by the manager Jesus who came over to apologise sincerely for the quality of the food. This was supposed to be a nice treat for my mum and it was very disappointing. The kitchen needs to up its game to match the lovely surroundings and service.
Good overall, food was delicious but very slow drinks service which was disappointing.
We had a great evening thank you! Service was excellent and it’s set right in the middle of Spitalfields so great location, lovely decor and atmosphere, excellent service and the food was great! Thank you
Busy Sunday brunch , slow on drink service but gave us the table we pre-requested and allowed us an extra person last min. Food was spot on. Always a good choice for a post -workout brunch with friends!
Lucus was great however the food has changed and we preferred the previous brunch menu everything was smaller and not as tasty as previously. Also, before we got sourdough toast with our meals this time sourdough bread not toasted? preferred it before the new chef changed the menu!
Had an excellent meal at Blixen, as a non meat eater I sometimes struggle with mainstream menus, however Blixen had good choices of a very high standard. The service was very good and the restaurant has a good feel with some very different areas.
