Blue Crab Grill in Newark, Delaware is known for offering a giant menu filled with seafood options. Though much of it is seasonal, you can always count on some items at Blue Crab Grill. For example, there is the steak and cake. You get a grilled beef tenderloin and jumbo lump crab cakes.
Another standby at Blue Crab Grill is the surf and turf. This includes a five-ounce beef tenderloin steak and a five-ounce lobster tail that is served stuffed with crab imperial. The crazy jambalaya is very popular as well. It comes with crab legs, crawfish, clams, mussels, scallops, chicken, shrimp and andouille sausage.

Would highly recommend dining at this location. Service and food were fantastic. Plan to visit again.
I went to Blue Crab Grill to check out the seafood. I ordered the surf and turf and was not disappointed! The steak was thick, tender, and tasty! The lobster tail stuffed with crab imperial was sweet and succulent. The portions were generous. I loved the ambiance, too. It was tastefully decorated (pun not intended) with a maritime decor. Blue Crab Grill is my new go-to seafood restaurant without having to go to the beach! You gotta try it.
Our first visit, and we will definitely go back. Food was great, large portions and good service.
The owner, Dick, has maintained a high level of service, gastronomic excellence, and economic thrift. Covid-19 has destroyed other food establishments but Blue Crab Grill prevails because of a relationship of customer loyalty built on years of extreme dedication to client satisfaction. The menu items include the finest seafood delights including my favorites of calamari, scallops, fresh catch, and a chef's seafood salad that includes salmon, cheeses, deviled eggs, calamari, olives, and other tasty treats. My special interest is soft shell crabs (in season), Cajun seasoned fried fish, and varied sandwich specials. The ambiance is perfect with soft music, large, clean, bright aquariums, and cozy tables/booths. The wait staff is highly attentive and friendly: the twins have been there forever (and still look so young), Sarah is quite adroit at getting what you need even before you realize you need it and Miranda never lets a glass get empty (just to name a few). If it sounds like I am a familiar - it is so. We all are. We love coming here and we will for decades to come!
Seated at 7:40 for a 7pm reservation. No hostess. Noted that the chef behind the line wore his mask below his chin, below his mouth, below his nose...didn’t make me feel good about their COVID policies. Also, at at least 3 tables of 6 adults and a huge 10-top in the middle of the floor. Max table is 4 adults + 2 children. I get that things are tough, but you’ve got to follow the guidelines! I’d hesitate to return until after COVID is over because I just would not be comfortable, especially when there are places following the rules. Server told us they could do this because “gathering” sizes had increased. That’s private parties, not open restaurant dining.
This is too bad, too, because the food was great. We went for Newark Restaurant Week and had a really flavorful goat cheese dip, rockfish w/crab imperial and creme brûlée. All delicious. Server was friendly and sweet. Staff overall was friendly.
Jen at the bar was Awesome!
Soup was cold, tomatoes were mushy, waitress was not very attentive.
Not our first time - we go at least once a year - usually Valentine's day weekend or for my birthday. Not cheap but the food is always awesome. Highly recommend.
The portions were very small and the prices were hefty. The food itself was good but not for the price and the crab imperial was simply crabmeat nothing else. I also heard from a table next to us that they had run out of some items.
Staff n food was great
We have eaten here several times and each visit keeps getting better. The food and staff are on the top of their game.
Great place to eat
We had a lovely meal here for Valentine’s weekend. Safety precautions were in place to meet state standards - social distancing, limited capacity, masking when not eating/drinking. The food was outstanding - we got the seared scallops with risotto and surf and turf entrees. The only downside was that service was very slow. We ordered appetizers and drinks, appetizers (calamari and steamed shrimp - yum!) arrived after about 15 minutes; however, we didn’t get our entrees until an hour after we sat down. Definitely keep that in mind if you’re on a time limit for your meal. Overall, we had a really nice time, great waitress, and wonderful food. Highly recommend!
Great food at very reasonable prices. We had oysters, duck spring rolls, onion soup and steak and cake. All delicious!
Our server, Sarah, was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu.
Dinner was amazing-- every bit as delicious as the pictures show! The ambience does not really match-- it feels like a diner, nothing special. But I will say again that the food is worth every penny!
This is our go to place for seafood. Light breading always delicious. Staff is friendly. Just an enjoyable place to go
Great food. Wonderful service and good atmosphere! Never have had a bad meal at Blue Crab Grill. It is our go to place for special occasions.
I dined at Blue Crab Grill about 8 years ago and was disappointed with the food. Usually, I don’t give places a second chance. My husband thought it would be a good idea to try them again before placing on our list of never to return! So, we dined again this past weekend and the food and drinks were delicious!!!! Service from the host to the waitress was A+. I’m glad I gave Blue Crab Grill a second chance.
There were too many people waiting for take out ? As with other establishments they text or call when the order is ready.
Overpriced, drinks were not good, food wasn’t good either.
I travel for my job and enjoy going to seafood restaurants when away from home since no one else in my family likes seafood!
Ordered the crab bisque-delicious and loaded with crab.
Main entree-lobster/crab mac and cheese. Delicious, creamy cheese sauce that was not greasy. Very filling-took most of it home!
Creme brûlée dessert. Will try the cake offerings next time.
Lemon drop cranberry martini was delicious except I would not get the sugar coated rim in the future.
First time there and the food was excellent! I had the broiled crab cakes and was not disappointed.... will definitely be coming back!
This was my first visit and I am very glad of the chouce I made to try this restaurant.
-Wonderful staff
-Excellent food and drinks
-Nice and comfortable atmosphere
I will definitely be returning.
Will be returning. Our waitress was nice but the bartender was our superstar! Clearing our tables and service the best drinks!
We are customers at Blue Crab Grill about once a month- take out or dine in. There’s always a lot of food for the money! My Crab Imperial wasn’t at all what I expected- yes plenty of crab- but it wasn’t Crab Imperial! Lumps of crabmeat were quite nice but none of the usual delicate sauce etc that’s baked in a special dish. Really bland and kind of tasteless. My husbands seafood Gumbo was great - plentiful and spicy.
Lunch was very good and service was great. We found this restaurant on Open Table and will definitely return when in the Newark area.
We went for my husband's birthday and it was great. The food was delicious. Service was good.. and they even gave him a dessert for free. Great experience!
It is a good place to eat but needs a larger menu.
New Year’s Eve..... first time there was a great experience
New Years- we’ve been coming here for years and this time was just as awesome as it was when we first came 18 years ago. Amazing food- awesome service, great value for the money and great bartender! Took a couple here that had never been and they were blown away. Fantastic restaurant!
Food at Blue Crab was excellent as always. One of our favorite places to eat.
This was our first time at the Blue Crab Grill and definitely not our last! As a UD parent, we've heard so much about it so we wanted to try it. The food was AMAZING!! Some of the best seafood we've ever had. The waiter was SUPER nice and very attentive. I would highly recommend it!
Delicious seafood and friendly service. We particularly liked the salmon, served with a Mediterranean mix of tomatoes, capers and olives. Very yummy! The fried shrimp were a nice size, butterflied with a very light crispy batter.
We have not been disappointed in this restaurant and have been here several times now.
It was enjoyable simple relaxing have dinner is quiet setting.
Blue Crab is our newest and favorite find. Have tried several dishes. All of them great. Service - excellent! Love the soft music playing in the background. Not loud, like so many restaurants. You can actually carry on a conversation without shouting.
I have been aiming to visit this restaurant for some time. It was well worth the wait. The food was fresh, well-prepared, and delicious. The server and chefs were extremely attentive and accommodating. The atmosphere was clean and safe with proper precautions. I would love to see the decor and atmosphere updated, because it did not match the excellent quality of the food! I am always looking for good restaurants to take out-of-town company. Will return again.
Been coming to this place ever since opened. Love the seafood. Can not recall ever having a bad meal. Serve has usually Ben Brest. Nicole waited on us this time. She probably does not remember us but she aired us many times over the years and has always been great.
Every thing was good, but to reserve a table you forced me to use this open table which has now sent me at least 4 emails. I wanted to have a good meal, not get inundated with emails. Please stop all emails to me, and do not sell them to anyone else. Likely I will never dine with you again because you didn’t respect my privacy.

The service was extremely slow for our table. The people that came in 15 minutes after us got their food and packed to go boxes while we were still waiting for our meals. It was my husband’s 40th birthday celebration and they ruined it.
Always delicious. Smoked seafood platter was outstanding.
