The ambiance and interior was great, certainly what i would expect of a restaurant in London; the cocktails looked and tasted amazing however the food was a massive let down. To really improve, Boho Mexica needs to make fresh authentic food in line with its feel and ambiance. The Empanadas where over cooked and tasteless and the Enchilladas tasted like a freezer meal. Not good! The restaurant definitely has potential- shame about the food!
Amazing food & ambience. Authentic Mexican. Absolute perfection!! x
Been here a couple of times and will keep going back. Food is good with a wide menu so everyone can eat here! Service is lovely and really enjoy it here
We had a big lunch party. The service was great as we were the only people in the restaurant. Whilst the menu was limited, the chef did make an effort for the vegetarians in our group.
Delicious food and good value for money!
I took my brother here who was visiting for a couple of days. Really good nibbles and loved the pork tacos. The waitress was great and didn't push us to order more than was necessary. The bar staff was friendly and fast, loved my margarita. It gets a bit loud when the small rooms get busy, but that is expected.
Table for two on busy Fri night. Main course partially delivered as waitress didn't listen carefully. Table next door told service wasn't included and tipped again when it clearly is included by default.
We went to Boho Mexican on a friend's recommendation and were not disappointed. It was very busy but the staff were calm, efficient and friendly. We loved our food and cocktails - the black bean sauce with the pork and the fish ceviche were big winners.
My friend and I usually head to Lupita as it is in the same area but decided we wanted a change - so when here! We won't be going back.
The margaritas were fab but even they did not remove the cramped conditions in the restaurant we were basically sitting on the laps of our neighbouring diners which may be good for the restaurant is not conducive for a nice Friday night dinner. It wasn't great that when I say down they said to let you know you have 90 minutes. I managed to go up to two hours but 90 minutes - you are having a laugh.
The food was ok but nothing special and my vegetation friend was a little underwhelmed.
A change is as good as a rest but it just means we will be Lupita-philes moving forward.
Good food, great drinks and service. This is our new place for Mexican food.
Took a couple of friends to this restaurant last weekend. We waited over an hour for our mains to arive and were pretty disappointed when it did. My pork quesadillas were just awful - full of greasy cheese - my plate was full of oil! I will not be returning.
Awesome food. Couldn't be better Mexican food!
Food was very good, the place is very nice and cool, but the service was awful. We talked to the manager and he didn't even care about it. That summarizes all of the experience. I would not recommend this place.
One of few actual mexican restaurants in shoreditch area after few closed down nearby. Like the fact that most plates are quite small so ideal for sharing and their margaritas are very good as well. Recommended for small groups of friends or dates...
Guacamole with Taco Chips was much too salty, made it inedible. Other food was nice but not much for the money. Service was a bit all over the place. Never brought back the drinks menu we asked for, so we had our Cocktail in that quirky pub across the road instead.
The food was ok the service was bad the place was too cramped up unnecessarily so as the tables should be a bit more spread out ! I felt like a sardine ! There is a fine line between profit and descency I think
Loud and lively atmosphere on arrival. Turned out you couldn't hear the person sat directly opposite. A confusing arrangement of all passing waiting staff individually trying to serve you and blatantly trying to up-sell at every individual encounter. Drinks were brought promptly. Food arrived almost immediately. As did the bill. A whirlwind. We got the impression it was more business than pleasure.
We are big fans of authentic Mexican cuisine and run a mile from formulaic TexMex fare so we were delighted to come across Boho Mexica. The restaurant is quirkily decorated and the upbeat but relaxed vibe welcomes you as soon as you walk in. The menu is compact but full of enticing dishes with traditional Mexican ingredients, while the drinks menu offers an array of mouth-watering margaritas, mojitos, caipirinhas etc. Our waitress was perhaps a little over-eager and there was some confusion with our bill but all was sorted out with good grace. Definitely a spot to return to, if only to try the things we didn't manage to sample on both the food and cocktail menus.
Best Mexican food in London - margaritas and fish tacos ....
I always look forward to visiting Boho. The food is great, from start to finish (make sure to leave room for the desserts!). Most recently, even though I only was in London for 2 days, I made a point of having dinner at Boho.
The service is warm and friendly, the menu is consistent. What more could you ask for in a restaurant?
We went to Boho for a friends birthday, its a very strange shape and layout for restaurant but its quirky, I like the décor and the oddness of the furniture. The staff were all great - welcomed within seconds of arriving and were well looked after throughout. food was of good quality and as I was dining with a Mexican and he gave his approval it must have been authentic too! quite good value for money, not a cheap meal but you get what you pay for.
I'd read about this place on the nudge and was keen to try it out as I'm yet to find a great Mexican in London. I was really glad I did! The food was a little unusual (ordered enchiladas and rice came as a side) but it was interesting and absolutely delicious - we will definitely be going back.
We enjoyed a really lovely meal here, the waitress we had was really lovely, never letting our glasses go empty but not buzzing around us continuously, she managed to get the balance perfectly right. The food was authentic and delicious, although the enchiladas I wouldn't order again, a bit bland. We would definatly return!
The food I ordered at Boho Mexica was quite disappointing. Mexican cuisine is my favourite, especially enchiladas, which I ordered from the menu and was disappointed to find the dish to be very underwhelming. High marks to the restaurant for using authentic corn tortillas, but I've never been served a dish as plain as those enchiladas. The plate consisted of lightly spiced shredded chicken wrapped in tortillas and covered in tomato sauce. Very underwhelming. My friend commented I was served "Mexican caneloni." I make Mexican food at home often and I know that there are so many ways to make enchiladas exciting and delicious, which unfortunately the ones I got at Boho Mexica were not. I would expect more imagination from a restaurant priding itself on making good Mexican food. I have to say that authenticity wasn't necessarily an issue, I was very pleased to see the restaurant uses real corn tortillas and ingredients sourced from Mexico. However the recipe for enchiladas was not imaginative at all. I don't come to London often and our visit to Boho Mexica was expected to be a treat; I can't speak for my friends, who ordered different things from the menu, but my meal ended up being something I could make in my own kitchen.
The place has a lively atmosphere (though this does mean that it is pretty cramped and noisy) but the food is truly awful. Soggy starter and a main with sauce that came straight from a jar. Would not recommend
The food was great - one of the tastiest meals I've had in ages. Good margaritas and friendly service from our run-off-her-feet waitress. Only slight off moment was the guy (owner? manager?) who, after we'd been seated, demanded to know if we had a reservation, like he didn't believe us, then slammed down the window blind - we were obviously not picturesque enough for the window!
With much sadness I learnt of this lovely restaurants closure so sad .
Good cocktails, great guacamole and fantastic starters. Wonderful atmosphere. Service was solid.
The mains, however, were just disappointing. Ok at best and not good value.
I'd go back for drinks and some nibbles, but wouldn't go back for dinner again.
Great choice of flavoursome food and tasty cocktails!
The food was delicious and as a vegetarian there was a lot of options. The tables are a bit close however the atmosphere really makes up for it! So friendly and welcoming, really comfortable and we felt like we could spend all evening there. In addition the food is fantastic value for money, perfect on a student budget! Both our waitress and the overall service was brilliant. Need to book a table before as it's obviously a popular place.
A good Mexican restaurant with a casual bar at the entrance where you can have good cocktails prepared by Maria (all sorts of Margaritas). Good music, nice waiters and good food... So a place I would certainly recommend although cocktails are a bit expensive.
The food was good but someone added a £25 bottle of wine onto the bill which we didn't have. After the wine was removed a £41 meal still had a £9 service charge.
Food was greasy and lacked flavour. I had to ask for tortillas even though they were stated on the menu.
Went here for an early dinner and drinks. They've got a great selection of food and drinks, really good for sharing. Plantains were delicious. All in all, a cool little place.
Whilst I had booked a table, I arrived with my guests to find the restaurant shut. If you're planning on going there - check they're open, don't trust the booking system.
I've walked past many times because I live and work in the area. The restaurant looks lovely, very warm, welcoming and romantic with candles on each table. So I thought this would be a great place to go on a date - unfortunately I was wrong..!
I booked through Opentable to dine at 9:30 and despite the restaurant taking my reservation for 9:30 and welcoming me in for dinner, they were taking last drinks orders at 10pm and by 10:15pm my waitress was reminding me that she would have to close and kick us out at 10:30pm!! Not very nice, not very welcoming, and it certainly did not impress my date who was a lovely lady from NYC.
Given that the mains would be arriving soon (but after the bar was apparently closed) we ordered an additional drink to have with our meal, and scratched out heads at what was going on. The restaurant was literally happy to seat us, take our order, take our money, and then unceremoniously boot us out..!
I'm not sure how that is supposed to work as a business model, but needless to say it was not a pleasant experience. This was the one and only time I have ever asked to have the discretionary 12.5% service charge removed from the bill..! I would say it was outrageous, I would say I was annoyed - but to be honest I was just perplexed and upset. They kinda spoiled our night and we were really nice to them.
In short - don't go. The experience was terrible. That is not why I go out to eat at restaurants. Attrocious service - this restaurant has forgotten that the customer is their business. (And when I asked why and complained, rather than apologising or offering an explanation or trying to fix the situation, our waitress merely barked at us and said that this was the way the restaurant operates.)
The food was very good- great tasting Mexican food full of flavour. Our waitress was fantastic, our waiter less so (very grumpy- obviously didn't want to be there). When there was a delay in our food, she offered us two free drinks, which was a lovely touch. I must say that the biggest improvement required is for staff not to let loads of people looking for a table into the restaurant at the same time. It's a tiny place, so when people are standing in between tables it is quite uncomfortable and staff can't even get passed them to wait on tables!! Very off putting. Perhaps a reservation only policy is required??
I love guacamole and I have never been to a Mexican restaurant where I don't like the guacamole they serve. That is until I went to Boho Mexica. It was just all wrong. Weirdly wet and honestly tasted synthetic and not homemade. Everyone I was with had the Tacos, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. The drinks were VERY expensive and not that good compared to their price. Probably won't be back.
Fantastic little place. The staff were more than helpful and couldn't do enough for me- even offered me some tequila on the house but I'd had more alcohol than I should have by that point! The food came really quickly and was beautiful, especially the salsa picante and vegetarian empanadas. There were plenty of vegetarian options which didn't feel 'tacked on' as they often do in restaurants, and had thought put into them. The cocktail I had was really refreshing (and strong!) with mezcal, watermelon juice, lime and chilli. I was a little surprised to have a tip already added onto my bill considering I was dining alone and had booked way in advance, but I was so happy with the food and service that I didn't mind paying it anyway.
We chose this place as we read about it online also the fact that it was in shoreditch was a good selling point. We enjoyed lovely apetizers and mains and gorgeous cocktails! A few times during our meal we realised we were in silence because we were so involved with our food! Would def go there again! Hasta pronto y Feliz navidad! Xx
