This hidden gem, a short walk from London Bridge, is London’s first real wine bar opened in 1965 by John Davy trading as a Free Vintner. Brimming with genuine character and jovial service, it has the feel of a private members club (for ladies and gentleman) and is home to some of the most original private rooms in the area. Best quality meats hand carved off the bone, award winning steak and delicious seasonal dishes cater for discerning customers. All polished off with a British cheese board and sticky puds. Our wine list boasts a large number of rare vintages alongside an extensive range from Davy’s wine merchant cellars.

A really characterful pub set on a quiet lane, but within easy reach of buzzy Borough and London Bridge. The staff were all lovely. Food was delicious and portions generous.

We arrived at the restaurant to find that it was closed, notwithstanding that they had accepted our reservation via Open Table. As it was New Year's Eve, this oversight condemned us to more than two hours of wandering around seeking to find an alternative place to dine.

I went with my wife and found it to be a lovely spot for a cosy drink and meal. I'd not been to a Davy's for quite some time, so I was delighted that this restaurant (the original!) still retains the traditional charm and ambience of the brand that I recall. Great food, very helpful and friendly staff, and great service. Thoroughly recommend and will be returning.

Loved the decor, service was excellent, the food was amazing. We had a Rioja 2013 it was incredible! Amazing varieties of wines. Such a interesting pub, very old and traditional which added to its charm.

Nice bar / restaurant off the beaten track - busy but quiet enough to have a decent conversation with mates. Food was great - smallish size but a great taste. Staff very warm and welcoming and a credit to the establishment. Thanks for a great night.

My first visit to Boot and Flogger, but decidedly not my last! Truly a perfect ambience, with excellent British and continental food, for entertaining friends or international guests. Comfortable seating, attentive but not intrusive service, moderate pricing (for London) - it was a terrific night. I noted that they also have private rooms of various sizes, which would be great for special entertaining.

Food was amazing. Service ok - the waiter we had struggled to make recommendations. Really lovely venue inside. One loud and very brash table dominated the noise levels. When they left it was much better. Some quiet background music wouldn’t go amiss. Would definitely go again - not cheap but very reasonable for the quality of food.

Went for Sunday lunch before seeing a show at the chocolate factory which is closeby. Both starters and main courses were first class and the recommendation to have the cauliflower cheese was a good one! Staff were very helpful. well worth a visit.

Hake was replaced with Sea Bass but was still great. Portion on the fish slightly small but food quality across all courses was excellent. The venue itself is unique and has both character and isn’t too loud. Would definitely return!

This is a really good watering hole, in a quiet spot near London Bridge.
Unfortunately, I picked up some negative vibes outside the Pub, and found that the history of prostitution and unmarked graves made me nervous in the area.
But this is no reflection on the Pub, which gives excellent service

Unique, traditional, cosy wine bar in tucked away location with lovely staff who look after you very well. Untouched by current trends in decor and food, the place to go for bangers and mash and an excellent glass of wine; the real charm is in the interior, with its panelling, private booths and Dickensian feel. The menu is short but well executed and the puddings very good. A happy birthday lunch with my husband and grown-up daughter with faultless service and no difficulty having a conversation in peace.
I do hope they never decide to change the place.......

A great place for good food, a generally lively atmosphere, not overwhelming, handy little glassed-off sections giving a little privacy. I love the old wooden floors and the old feel of the place. Unpretentious.

I have long been a fan of the Boot and Flogger, but it was the first time for my missus and the in laws.
The food was excellent and surprised those who hadn't been before as they thought it was going to be something like a gastropub.
Everything was superba nd we had a fantastic evening.

Great meal. All 4 starters, mains and desserts were really complimented and enjoyed. Would absolutely return. Full of character and talking points. Only one thing I would say is that light background music would improve overall atmosphere I think but that is personal preference. Service was great too from both the staff members. Real hidden gem just away from the busy part of Borough and Bankside .

Booked for our 12 year anniversary dinner, fairly last minute. The actual restaurant itself is lovely and exactly what we were looking for. Cosy, comfortable, quirky, casual. The food took absolutely ages because they had a big party going on elsewhere, which we didn't mind because they gave us loads of free wine to compensate and we were enjoying each other's company and not in a hurry to go anyway. Unfortunately, the food was shocking! I had the Gnocchi, which was inedible. The waiter really didn't seem surprised when I only ate 1 bite and agreed with me that it was terrible. My husband had a steak, which was over cooked and gristly. We decided we'd had enough by the time the dessert menu came so can't comment on that. The wine was delicious!

Such a lovely atmospheric place, retains its original character. The selection of wines is outstanding and the staff are very knowledgeable. The shortish menu had some traditional and modern choices, and the oven-baked hake with almond crumb and a delicious sauce was perfectly cooked.
