To still be able to book a table when restaurant was closed was disappointing and frankly disgusting a day ruined for myself and my daughters!!!!
How awful!!! Arrived at place was shut down!!! Didn’t even have a call beforehand to tell us!!! Disgusting!
It shouldn’t be on this site to book!
Restaurant had ceased trading several weeks before the booking.
The restaurant was closed and I was not advised of this.
Bourgee - we arrived for our pre booked anniversary meal to find the venue shut - we hadn’t been notified in any way. Disgusting customer service.
It’s closed ! Booking wasn’t even cancelled , thankfully word of mouth got around otherwise we would have been stuck
They were closed without notice!
If I want a fun afternoon tea with a difference then I enjoy coming to Bourgee. Food is good but service is a bit slow. Once waited more than half hour before our order was taken. The donuts are brilliant.
Good value for money, always good service
Our visit was amazing , lovely food great service and good prices .
Well defo go again .
Had a great meal..They made a cocktail for us that wasn't on the list. Excellent night out.
Went for afternoon tea with a difference and wasn't disappointed it was as good as it was the first time I went nearly 2 years ago. Great food, great atmosphere perfect for a catch up with friends.
I have been a customer since you opened this restaurant and I must say this visit was not up to the standard of previous visits.
This visit was for my partners birthday, I choose your restaurant as it usually feels special. Unfortunately this visit was just like visiting a normal restaurant and I was disappointed.
Lovely starter - had the lobster and would recommend.
Really stylish decour. Didn't like out table being so close to the bar area. Very noisy at times.
Service was quick and couldn't fault it.
Great food and the afternoon tea is good value. We came late afternoon for a birthday celebration. We particularly liked the bagels and the fruit with dipping sauces . Would recommend
Not impressed. The doorman was the highlight, food was bland and they didn't even ask my date how she'd like her burger cooked! Dry atmosphere.. not likely to visit again
Poor service with poor food.
This first course was presented burnt and was returned. The main course of a whole lobster was so over cooked I had difficulty cutting the flesh with a knife. Although it was exchanged without arguing, by now my much anticipated experience was ruined. On the way out the manager apologised for an undercooked lobster. It would appear that even complaints are not being fed back. Would I go again? Not in a heartbeat
We came on date here me and my husband and was a lovely calming atmosphere
I have dined at restaurant over a dozen times but sadly the last few have been memorable for the wrong reasons. The restaurant used to serve high end steaks like you would find in the steakhouse restaurants in the city but sadly, no more. The prices are still high end but the steaks now average at best.
Overall, it’s still one of the better restaurants in Southend but unless they up their game or lower their prices, customers expectations will never be met. The set menu offers good value but the main menu dictates a much higher spend and food not as good as you will find elsewhere.
My Rib off the bone was tough to cut and even with the steak knife offered, still chewy with the smallest of pieces. My wife’s filet was tended and flavoursome but served cold whereby we had to send it back just to get it warmed up. It still came back warm rather than hot.
We might give it one last chance but, then again, maybe not.
Service was great food lovely would thoroughly recommend this restaurant
A pleasant evening for our anniversary
Had visited Bourgee a few years ago on a Friday night and did not like it, was too loud and it took over an hour to even eat anything, service was very slow. However I re visited on a midweek night recently, and I was so impressed, really enjoyed this experience, service was very good and the food was served in good time, the food is delicious. It was a lot quieter in the noise sense. Loved it and will definitely go back but only midweek
Great food nice atmosphere would highly recommend very enjoyable evening
Great service as always & delicious food! We chose from the Easy Eats menu, the pork belly in maple glaze being our favourite. Great atmosphere, decent prices & close to home. Thank you!
Food was nice, overpriced for what it was. Service felt rushed
If you like an afternoon tea with a difference this is the place to go could not fault it as lovely as previous visits
I wanted to show this place for my boyfriend and celebrate his birthday. The food was excellent. Service fast and friendly. Only one thing which was very unpleasant that we was seated down next to the toilets when it was plenty other tables ,however it was said that they are booked, but it wasn't !
Lovely food and service was amazing too I would recommend
One of the best Sunday Roasts i have had anywhere, The restaurant is beautiful & just wish i had been there sooner ! Service was excellent & the menu made it hard to choose as it all sounds good
We had afternoon tea and it was quite different from other local venues - it was a very pleasant change from the usual finger sandwich/scone/cake offerings.
Would recommend this to anyone who likes variety.
Lovely meal - not cheap but worth it!
Steak wasn’t hot, but other ham that was a lovely afternoon
Was Amazing as always and was the best way to celebrate our Anniversary 🍸🍹🥂🍾
Wonderful service and attentive staff. Food was delicious . I just felt I was seated too close the the table next to mine and felt a little awkward.
We had the 2 courses for £17.50, amazing food, still thinking about it several days later :)
Tried to book express lunch via restaurant - told by a stroppy woman fully booked all week
Then managed to book through open table
Arrived on day of booking - lady that booked us in was miserable & clothes looked tatty
There were two other tables being occupied in the entire restaurant , this went upto 3 & at one point we were alone in the restaurant! - there is clearly a problem with the restaurants direct booking system !!
One glass on the table had a food stain on it ....
We had the express lunch groupon deal - so they gave us a photocopied , stained piece of paper with the menu on ! Not what I would expect from a high end restaurant ..
The food itself was wonderful, although we had to ask for the skinny fries that should of gone with one order ... the staff were not attentive, considering it was empty you would expect them to be more attentive ...
When using the ladies toilet it was like entering the Antarctic !! It was so dark in there & the first cubicle was dirty !!
Overall for a high end restaurant the food is the only thing the lives upto expectation , the experience didn’t ..
I have visited quite a few times before , but Unfortunately it has really gone down hill. They really need to make some changes & fast if not a fear this will be another failed southend establishment !
Excellent food a very enjoyable afternoon tea. My only disappointment was having to pay for refills of tea.
Otherwise would definitely recommend.
Took my mum here for mother’s day and it was lovely! Service was really good can’t complain!
This is the fourth time we’ve visited however would say was much better previously when coming as a couple rather than a group with children.
We came for a joint Mother’s Day / birthday celebration and even though the restaurant was quiet service was extremely slow and had to ask three times for the children’s starters as they did not arrive with the rest of the food even though they were the simplest ones to do. The starters were however very good as usual.
The mains (Sunday Roast) were ok but not of the standard you would expect of a restaurant like this with the beef extremely rubbery and tasteless.
Finally given it was a birthday I would have expected them to at least acknowledge this particularly as they had asked when confirming the booking. They set expectations the year before when my wife received a free glass of prosecco and cake so made it more disappointing the server couldn’t even say happy birthday.
We therefore skipped dessert and had an ice cream on the sea front instead.
Overall an ok experience but would now definitely think twice about returning which is a real shame.
Have never been disappointed, the best restaurant in southend.
