This quaint bistro restaurant is one of our favorites in the Upper East Side for a cozy dinner for two. Dark and romantic. Great cocktails ... I have had the London Manhattan multiple times and it has been special. We both ordered the chicken with grilled vegatables and enjoyed it. The warm shaved brussels sprouts salad also was delicious.
Oddly overpriced. $30+ for 3 scallops seems a bit overpriced
Even with reservation had to wait a long time for table. Had nowhere for my handicapped mom to sit. She had to sit outside in cold. The wait for food was at least an hour BUT saying that the dinner was fantastic. the food was amazing and we could not eat enough!
Excellent as always
The food is amazing but my friend and I felt very rushed through dinner, as though they couldn't wait to turn the table. I understand that's how they make money, but this was extreme.
It's a nice place and the food is good, not great, but the service is spotty.
My avocado toast was delicious , the service quick, and the noise level went down after about 1:30. We all had a lovely Sunday afternoon.
The service is wonderful. The hostess and waiters are very attentive.
Always a pleasure to bring out if town guests for ant meal here for consistent delicious brunch - especially the gougeres , Bloody Mary’s , truffle fries and brioche poached eggs with tomato confit!
i originally booked for 8pm 100 points later changed reservation to 8:30 1000 points
i only received 100 ooints can you please adjust
Always my favorite place to eat in my neighborhood. Thanks cognac!
- convenient for anyone on the upper east side
- food wasn't great
- good ambience, well-made cocktails
Lovely service, wonderful food in a beautiful dining room. Both the first floor and the 2nd floor are beautifully appointed, but I love the view onto Lexington Ave from the table by the window on the 2nd floor.
Loud client at the bar
Very reliable upper east side bistro. Food is both innovative and traditional bistro fare. The raw tuna tarte is delicious. The diners are well heeled and appreciative of this neighborhood gem. It is too bad that it is so small because tables are cramped, but try to get a table upstairs where it is much quieter.
Quite nice. Food was great and the ambiance was delightful. Try the second floor seating.
My friends and I have always enjoyed this restaurant and we think the food is uniformly good. This time the service was terrible and actually rude. I hope the wait staff was having an off night and that the next time I go there everything will be as wonderful as it was until this visit.
The design, lighting, and particularly the MUSIC, was perfect. Great service and food.
Bartender was green but very nice. If you are a Cognac restaurant you should know what VSOP is ...
Mussels were average and Filet was first raw than a hockey puck
The atmosphere is great and the sides were impressive
Too bad. Food ruined a 20 cab each way
My sister and her husband were here from Sacramento for a wedding. After the hustle and bustle of the weekend, it was a delight to be able to have a delicious brunch in such a quiet, lovely neighborhood setting. Thank you!
Brasserie Cognac is a lovely, lively restaurant with classic French meals done well. The tables are extremely close to one another, so don’t plan on having a deeply personal conversation here. The martinis were on point, but served in rather small glasses. My husband’s beet salad was delicious, as was my foie gras. He said his halibut was very good, albeit slightly bland... but I feel that is to be expected when one orders halibut. My beef bourguignon, however, was out of this world... the very best that I have ever had. Absolutely delicious. I would go back just for that.
LOVE the fondue and Wilson our server. Always a favorite place to go.
Don't ever sit upstairs. Siberia. Very unhappy I was put there
Cheese soufflés was really good but the burger was just barely ok and the meat not at the level of where it should be. Ordered medium rare and came medium well with the lettuce not cleaned.
Been there many times and not consistent. Expecting a traditional fresh and French food but many times inconsistent quality.
Lovely food and service.
Very nice bistro
We had a good time .
I used to go to the one on west side before it was closed because I lived closer.
Now I have no choice so I tried it and realized it’s really good. It’s more about the local clients and the food was really good.
Floating island was even better than the other place!
Branzino, beet salad, escargot were delicious....
The cocktail was so good I had to order another one and everyone really enjoyed our meal!
I will be back soon!
Lovely for brunch. Delicious food great drinks. Wonderful ambiance. Highly recommend.
This was our first visit here and we loved it.
The waiter treated us like we were long time customers.
I had the Nicoise salad with ahi tuna and a chocolate soufflé.
Delicious and I can’t wait to go back.
We had a leisurely lunch, the chicken Pillard was so tender it could be cut with a fork & tasted delicious. The salmon burger is excellent. The staff si friendly & helpful.
Just ok. Not sure how much ingredient quality and how much execution, but none of our dishes (wide variety among us) were better than ok. Service got slow/overwhelmed when tables filled up.
This is my favorite neighborhood bistro to meet people for lunch. It is always reasonably quiet, and the service is excellent. Food is reliable and very good. Best onion soup and cheese souffle. Excellent salads, etc. Don't miss dessert!
We had a nice dinner at Brasserie Cognac with old friends. Very pleasant. Good food. One nice thing was that when I spilled my glass of wine due to the fact that they had pulled two tables together for us and the height was uneven, so that when I put it down on the table cloth where the two tables were joined it tipped over. Without being asked, they refilled the glass, which was the right thing to do, but many restaurants would not do so.
The noise level is OK, and it has the feel of a neighborhood restaurant. Not as interesting food as a real French brasserie, but good.
Consistently wonderful, Cognac never disappoints. Don't miss the gougeres, the mussels or the steak frites.
The food was GREAT. Salmon was cooked perfectly as well as the scallops. The service was on point. Very very good. Definitely would recommend to friends. I would like them to address a small problem with the fruit flies that were flying around. That’s my only small complaint. Otherwise top notch.
I've been here many times and have enjoyed all I've eaten and I will not hesitate to go many more times and recommend. The only thing I would say is that they were skimpy on the amount of scallops for this somewhat expensive and delicious entree. The dish was more like an appetizer than a main course and should be adjusted for the latter. Otherwise, our meal was superb..
Pleasant French bistro with okay food. Onion soup (gratinée) was quite good. Beef bourguignon was dried out in a tasteless sauce. Dessert (floating island) was okay but disappointed; custard not quite meeting the standard. Other main courses were satisfactory.
