Browns - Covent Garden
Lively, vibrant, eclectic Covent Garden is in the heart of the West End, surrounded by theatres, galleries, shops and landmarks.
Once the Westminster County Court building and now elegantly converted into a bar and restaurant, Browns is close to all the main theatres and our pre- and post-theatre suppers are extremely popular.
The Courtrooms is a suite of four wonderful function rooms upstairs at Browns, Covent Garden. It’s an amazing venue and perfect for weddings, parties or business events.
Come and soak up the Covent Garden vibe - relax, unwind and most of all, have fun at Browns
We love this restaurant. I had a milestone birthday party in one of the court rooms way back when, but the Sunday lunch service now leaves a lot to be desired in the delivery of beverages.
We had a very good table waiter, but for it to take the bar 15 minutes to provide a glass of Prosecco and 2 gin and tonics when the restaurant was approx 15% full is ridiculous.
That said, the roast beef was wonderfully on the rare side of medium rare and the schnitzel was very tasty. The seton Mess was delightful and the wine selection was fine.
The only improvements needed are to (hi) get more staff on a widened reception (and to move groups of 8-10 off to their tables and away from air kissing and blocking the aisles) and to staff the bar with a better ratio than 1 cocktail maker to six or seven waiters.
Superb quality and excellent service a delicious meal served very promptly x
In general, the food was really bad.
I ordered the chicken and some mushrooms as a side, but couldn’t eat as it was burned (they saw we sent the entire side back to the kitchen but they charged it anyway)
My friends ordered the risoto, but what was served wasn’t really a risoto (the rice type wasn’t the right one, and it was really dry).
I will never come back.
Food was poor, service was even worse. Will avoid in future.
Was fantastic food with very polite staff in a fantastic atmosphere.
Too noisy with mediocre food
Service was good however
Shiraz very drinkable
Will not be returning
Overall this place is a great meet and eat before the theatre, menu has something for everyone, the service is perfect for those with a curtain time.
Lovely food and surroundings. Maria T very friendly and helpful.
Pre theatre meal. Chose early evening set menu. Steak Frites.... steak cold and over cooked. We were on a deadline so couldn’t wait for it to be cooked again, 10% deduction on the bill was not a fair reflection.... seemed a bit chaotic in the restaurant because it was closing for a private function that evening..,,
Disappointing because it is usually a consistently good restaurant.
It was a pleasure to dine there
The food as always was excellent but the service was terrible. Waited 30 minutes even for water to be delivered . The food was prompt but wanted dessert and the waiter never took our order but collected the menu without asking if we wanted to order. Then took another 30 minutes to get the bill and pay. We had a show to get to so ended up being a rush and we had allowed 2 hrs for our meal.
Great food and Good Service - reasonably priced for central London.
My friends and I are flight attendants on a layover and we were going to a play at the London Colosseum
And I booked a table this past Saturday night. The food was good, the location great for our play, and our server Diago Sales was lovely. It was quite busy but he took time to chat with us and gave us great service. Thanks for putting up with us Diago. I would recommend Brown’s.
Very nice ambience at browns Covent Garden, staff all very friendly and helpful. The food very nice and delivered quickly.
Good pre-theatre menu. Fast, efficient and friendly service.
We had a lovely evening, food was delicious and service was excellent. Our only criticism was it was so hot in the restaurant to the point it made us all sleepy!Air conditioning or more fans are a must!
fizz Friday great value (£10 off per bottle) BUT lots of v v loud hen parties that the waiters/waitresses/managers made no attempt to ‘contain’ - no one minds people having a good time but when you can’t hear each other over a table of 2 it completely spoils the evening.
Good food, reasonable prices but managers need to manage
Excellent and attentive waitress; the usual good quality menu and standard of food.
Booked for pre-theatre supper. White wine was warm - was replaced with an only slightly colder glass. 10 minutes after the starter was cleared away the waiter told us that he had lost our order for main courses so had to wolf down only barely cooked risotto to get to the theatre in time. Sadly did not match up to previous experiences of Browns and won't be going back.
We have been here before and has always been lovely but on Wednesday it was terrible, we had 4 fish and chips and 1 steak and chips and nobody enjoyed their meals. The fish was terrible and the chips were hard and cold. The steak was suppose to be medium rare and it was well done and the chips were terrible, cold and stale. We won’t be returning.
Booked a last minute, but have been several times before, quality and service are always good, and this night was no exception. The lobster risotto was brilliant served with half a lobster.
Can be a little noisy at times but this adds to the general atmosphere, try to get a table at the front of the restaurant.
Booked for a pre theatre meal but still found ourseleves rushing to get to theatre.
A clean bright cafe with excellent beers on draft and good cocktails. We went there twice and everything (roast chicken, hamburger with crisp fries, spring salad with chicken) was well prepared and delicious. The individual round of freshly baked bread is a nice touch. The location is convenient to both the Covenant Garden and Leicster Square areas.
We had a large family group there for Sunday lunch. Very good other than the roast chicken was seriously over-cooked, to the point of being tough and dry. Had we been in a smaller group those that ordered chicken would have sent the meal back. Other than that excellent - nice atmosphere, good service and sensible prices.
Never again will I go there, they didn’t tell us that they had a big event and shut down at 7pm
Empty restaurant, yet within 10mins of sitting down was warned we would have to move tables if we planned staying more than one hour.
Very bad customer management. No need (nearly all other tables were empty) - you are disappointing the guaranteed paying customer (physically sat at the table) in favour of some future imaginary customer who may or may not arrive - very poor real customer service.
Suggest you Re-think your approach.
Perfect pre-theatre supper in pleasant surroundings with good service. Aware of time but not made to feel rushed
Convenient location for pre-theatre dining with swift service. Several options for each course on the set menu. Well presented, hot, but rather small portions in some cases. (Very small fish cakes served with some salad leaves). Reasonable value.
We went for dinner before theatre. Given location it seems everyone else going to theatre was doing the same because it was so busy. Good food. We all went for the pre theatre menu with a good selection.
Excellent location, attentive service, fine selection of food from vegetarian to meat
It was great except service was a little slow for the pre theatre dinner slot but wasn’t too bad !!
Food was inadequate. Theatre menu. Main course was basically two small fishcakes. Should at least have been accompanied by chips or rice and some proper veg, not a few straggly raw leaves.
Service was good.
Quick pre-theatre meal, just a main course and a drink. Service was generally good but there was a mistake on the bill which took a while to sort. Not sure why desserts on set menu are different from a la carte.
A buzzy ambience and atmosphere with quick service by friendly staff pre theatre!
A character full space with Waiters dressed in uniform and all well presented.
Easy for Pre-Theatre dining - not crowded, peaceful and altogether good. Maybe no great WOW factor but GOOD!
Great service from Angela S. Terrible main courses. Veal schnitzel so tough it may have been fried twice. Was offered replacement but was heading to the theatre so no time.
Very good service and great interior decor. Impressive experience all round. Only improvement was the choice of food for veggies was limited but great nonetheless.
I'm a regular at various Brown's sites and so I know what to expect. Decent food, good service and not too expensive.
We were visiting the theatre next door so the location was perfect. My fish cakes were a bit flat and greasy, but our waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. It was a convenient meal and certainly not a bad one, but I wouldn't necessarily rush back unless I was returning to the theatre next door.
For a family meal, the starters were all excellent. Two of the mains were good, while the other two were disappointing, particularly the fish pie which was very gloopy, needed a spoon to eat it, and there was very little fish obvious, apart from two bones!
