Browns - Covent Garden
Lively, vibrant, eclectic Covent Garden is in the heart of the West End, surrounded by theatres, galleries, shops and landmarks.
Once the Westminster County Court building and now elegantly converted into a bar and restaurant, Browns is close to all the main theatres and our pre- and post-theatre suppers are extremely popular.
The Courtrooms is a suite of four wonderful function rooms upstairs at Browns, Covent Garden. It’s an amazing venue and perfect for weddings, parties or business events.
Come and soak up the Covent Garden vibe - relax, unwind and most of all, have fun at Browns

Excellent service, good value pre theatre menu. Our waitress was great and made it really special for my mum’s birthday. Thank you!
Creme brulee wasnt brulee at all. Risotto with lobster it wasnt risotto it was just rice.
We had a pre theatre meal which was delicious & great value for money. We were not down on their books for a booking but nevertheless we were given a great table straight away. The service was excellent.
Served it’s purpose for a pre theatre meal. Really friendly but chaotic service - felt a bit uncomfortable. Had to chase food up after 35 minute wait, so then had to eat in a rush. Would probably be better to serve fewer things better between 6 / 7:30pm. I do love Browns, food is good, but probably not at that time.
We were sat away from other tables, but we were a large party so perhaps they thought we would be loud.
Food a little hit or miss, some meals were thoroughly enjoyed, others were average.
Staff very attentive and excellent.
Pre theatre supper, waiting staff very helpful with dietary requirements and very prompt service
central location, excellent food, friendly staff, very reasonable considering you are in central london
Pretty average food, waiter was lovely but forgot orders and it was over priced for what it was.
We made a last minute reservation based on a recommendation from a friend. The ambiance was excellent, service very good, and the menu was varied. The steak pie and mashed potato was delish. Chicken schnitzel was a bit dry, needed a sauce of some sort. Affordable wine selection.
Didn’t have our booking when we got to the restaurant.
Reliable and good.
Patchy service and one main course sent back didn’t equal a good evening!
Put on a table in the corridor with the doors open in winter. It was freezing, food was not worth the price.
Service was very slow.
Had to send meal back as it didn’t match description on menu.
One member is staff tried really hard to rectify the issues we were experiencing
New year dinner
Had a great lunch with a table for 8 friends on a Friday ahead of Christmas. Food, wine and service were all very good and we all had a very enjoyable and relaxing experience. The only downside at the start was that the restraunt didn't have our Open Table booking which hade been 2 months before and Open Table had confirmed and sent reminders about. However, the restraunt resolved it quickly and we had a good table and good time.
I am a big fan of Browns usually, and enjoy the food and ambiance offered. On this occasion the service fell a little short of normal standards however. We had to ask three times for table water before we received it, and twice for cheese to accompany a pasta dish. The restaurant had run out of salt beef croquettes (the same thing has happened the previous two times I have visited Browns CG!) and so if this is a popular dish why not prepare for what should be forseeable demand? The toilets were also unclean. Ceiling extract grills caked in fluff and dust, soap running low, neither handryer working, and the area was generally untidy
Usually a great venue, tasty menu, and ideally located, but dissapointing visit on this occasion
All the waiters were excellent. We had gone to Dear Evan Hansen and it was so nice to go to after the show.
They had no booking in for us even though we had booked with open table 3 months ago
We were so looking forward to our meal and we were really hungry
We had to wait over an hour for our food
Angela our waitress was brilliant and food was nice when we got it but the enjoyment had gone
Not a great night
I am happy to recommend Browns but having reserved through Open Table I then received an email from Open Table saying the reservation had not gone through. I then booked directly via the restaurant.
We had waiters coming over to our table bringing over food that wasn’t meant for us. We didn’t get a drinks menu upon being seated, and once we had left the table to go outside or to the toilet our drinks were taken. However, they did replace them and offer up apologies.
Just the sort of place to take my dad for his birthday.
Great get together with friends and waitress was exceptional
We had the pre-theatre set menu. The food was very tasty indeed. The waitresses were attentive and seemed to be very happy.
Food was poor. Chicken dry, sauce and veg overcooked. Dirty knife. Good service but not enough staff. Waited a long time for our food
Comfortable relaxed bistro feel in light airy surroundings with excellent friendly service and good food - what's not to like?
Empty, slow service, wrong food delivered and not replaced. Bland, disappointing
Lost my booking from this site, took ages to serve me (20 mins for initial order), dropped a tray in front of the table and spent most of the main course sweeping up around me including under my table, initial bill overcharged by 50% (chose a la Carte prices not theatre menu, plus got sizes of drinks wrong - just rounding up), wouldn’t allow me not to pay the 10% service charge even though it was optional. Avoid this branch.
It was a very busy and loud Saturday evening, so service was a little slow at times. But food was really good. I had the pork belly that comes with a savoury apple pie - wasn't sure how that would work out, but it was delicious.
I have only been here for pre theatre dinner but every time I have the service is fast, efficient, super friendly and the food and drinks are the same high quality every time.
Had a lovely lunch before the theatre. Very good service - just don't understand why they sat us next to the till when there were so many other table available! Otherwise a great experience.
Overall the food was expensive for what was on offer . In particular someone should instruct the chef on how to cook lobster, as it was extremely tough & needed a steak knife to cut it.
We love this restaurant. I had a milestone birthday party in one of the court rooms way back when, but the Sunday lunch service now leaves a lot to be desired in the delivery of beverages.
We had a very good table waiter, but for it to take the bar 15 minutes to provide a glass of Prosecco and 2 gin and tonics when the restaurant was approx 15% full is ridiculous.
That said, the roast beef was wonderfully on the rare side of medium rare and the schnitzel was very tasty. The seton Mess was delightful and the wine selection was fine.
The only improvements needed are to (hi) get more staff on a widened reception (and to move groups of 8-10 off to their tables and away from air kissing and blocking the aisles) and to staff the bar with a better ratio than 1 cocktail maker to six or seven waiters.
Superb quality and excellent service a delicious meal served very promptly x
In general, the food was really bad.
I ordered the chicken and some mushrooms as a side, but couldn’t eat as it was burned (they saw we sent the entire side back to the kitchen but they charged it anyway)
My friends ordered the risoto, but what was served wasn’t really a risoto (the rice type wasn’t the right one, and it was really dry).
I will never come back.
Food was poor, service was even worse. Will avoid in future.
Was fantastic food with very polite staff in a fantastic atmosphere.
Too noisy with mediocre food
Service was good however
Shiraz very drinkable
Will not be returning
Overall this place is a great meet and eat before the theatre, menu has something for everyone, the service is perfect for those with a curtain time.
Lovely food and surroundings. Maria T very friendly and helpful.
