Buckle and Vaughan
'This is one of the best restaurants in the area ...’ [Trip Adviser review August 2016]
Using the best of local and seasonal British ingredients to create sumptuous Modern European dishes, Buckle and Vaughan is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, with a bar area for drinks and cocktails.
We offer a varied menu, showcasing a range of modern European favourites, all made from ingredients of the highest quality.
Be sure to check out our Lunch Menu, priced at only £10.90 for two courses, or £14.50 for three courses, available Monday to Sat between 12-6pm.
The food was very nice but the staff left a sour taste in our mouths and we won’t be returning.
The waiter was fairly rude throughout our visit and immediately commented that he wouldn’t have bothered to make the table look nice if he’d known we were bringing children. I explained I’d called ahead and spoken to a lovely French man who said it was fine to bring kids only to get a “well he’s on holiday” response.
Later we were left with a bottle of wine dumped unopened on the table because my husband was in the bathroom. We went ahead and poured the wine but then realised it wasn’t very nice at all but because we’d poured two glasses out they wouldn’t do anything about it other than to “offer” to charge us for two glasses and take the bottle away and us buy a new bottle if we wanted something different. Later we were told “well you did order Merlot which isn’t the best wine anyway” as if we were being judged on our taste and the issue wasn’t the fact that the wine was unpleasant.
Only issue was the way the chicken cooked on skewers was presented on such a tiny plate that it was impossible to add the rice to the dish. The dish it was on was more like a long side/starter plate. Also the serving dish that held the rice in was not practical, rice felll out of the sides when scooping it out.
I do love this restaurant in overlooking the Green at Winchmore Hill. The food is very good as is the ambiance.
I had invited my friend over to visit my neck of the woods & she was very impressed.
Unfortunately it did get very noisy at one point & we couldn’t hear each other but that’s because it is very popular.
Have already booked my next visit
Great food & atmosphere. Just felt a bit rushed near the end
Nice ambience. Very good food and service. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Had the mini crab cakes for starters and rib eye on the bone. everything was cooked and presented perfectly. Attentive service from our waiter. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to others.
Arrived on a quiet early Sunday evening, having pre-booked, and the lunch service having finished. We were two couples and were attended to swiftly, meals came promptly and were very tasty. Service was good - available when needed. We were aware of background music but it was not unobtrusive. Few tables occupied so maybe ambience not typical but we ere happy. Found cost reasonable value for money. We have been before, and will return.
I really enjoyed this restaurant.. buzzy, great food and fab atmosphere.
I have been to Buckle & Vaughan many times and I have always had a great experience. Weekends are lively and great to go to if you're a large group. Equally good if you're a small group. Food is consistently good and the service is amazing. Highly recommend.
Delicious food and great service, lovely sitting there in the evening with the front windows open.
Food and service excellent but the noise in the restaurant was unacceptable.
Previous experiences very good. On this particular occasion mediocre. Barman and cocktails very good. Given the table we requested very good. Service this time not friendly, staff seemed disinterested and tired. We were told there were potatoes with the dish we ordered but turned out to be small mash under meat which seemed like a sauce. We ordered sauté potatoes which turned up when meal almost eaten and they weren't even sauté they were new potatoes. Then to top that, one dessert of sorbet with vodka was served 10 minutes before the other 3 desserts. Lost its professionalism.
Had a lovely reunion with some old friends, came last year and enjoyed it so decided to come again
Would recommend that restaurant offer a bit more food for the money it costs - thought it over priced for a local brunch menu a couple of our guests were still hungry after. Service not brilliant as it wasn’t busy felt like staff weren’t on the ball. Would like to see the offer of unlimited tea and coffee and some pastries to start or finish would be a nice touch even if they were mini! Should be included in price think you might get more people through the door.
Vegetarian risotto was dry and tasteless. New menu was a bit limited and not sure I will rush back to this place
Can’t wait to go back, every aspect nothing less short than perfect 👌🏽
We went for the brunch menu, this was excellent value for money and each of the dishes we had were cooked perfectly. Eggs Benedict with delicious off the bone ham hollandaise and perfectly poached eggs. The full breakfast is also fantastic.
This was a recommendation from a friend for a family get together with overseas relatives.
Excellent service made the lunch perfect.
I had roast salmon which was cooked to perfection. The staff were professional and friendly. The overall ambience was good.
As always the staff were lovely and on hand with prompt service and a smile. I really love it here.
Just about the best restaurant in N21, the varied menu caters for all and the quality of the meat and fish is outstanding!
We noticed some new staff and little changes to some of the dishes on this visit but it's still our favourite by a long way.
I tried the sea bream with cockles and tempura samphire this time - gorgeous!
Great local restaurant with a brilliant lunch menu :o)
We have eaten there many times as a family and as a couple.
Always excellent food and service and a lovely bright and open room
Great brunch menu. Delicious food, perfectly poached eggs. Also excellent coffee. Very happy with everything, they also managed allergy concerns very well.
Great service. It was quiet though as it was a Monday evening. The food was wonderful and cocktails are real good. If not happy with cocktail they’ll happily make another till you’re satisfied
Great service with a smile, made to feel welcome and accommodating. Food is at a good standard.
The food was not as good as it used to be. No bread served, not a lot of flavour in the prawn starter. The service was brilliant.
One of the meals were overcooked mixed grill. The other one I asked to add cheese and I came up with no cheese. The starter which was brie had the end bit of bread the crust. For the price we paid £82.00 for two of us was not worth it.
THIS RESTAURANT DOES NOT TAKE ALLERGIES SERIOUSLY
It's also overpriced for what it is.
I have dined here several times before and they make the same mistake over and over again. I tell them about my food allergy, they write it down and comment on it. We ordered shared starters, they arrive - with the food I am allergic to on the plate. I can't eat one of the dishes as a result.
Our mains arrive. Mine is an overpriced chicken kebab (£15.90) quite literally 6 pieces of (overcooked) chicken with a tiny salad on the side. I had asked for them to check the salad due to my allergy. Guess what, they hadn't bothered. So they took the place away and returned my food on a clean plate - minus the piece of chicken that has touched the allergy food. So I basically paid £15.90 for 5 cubes of chicken. Rice was an extra.
Honestly, this place used to be good. It just seems to be charging a fortune for below average food so it can call itself a destination venue. I'd say it's a nice place for a drink but if it's a great meal you are after, then Buckle and Vaughan need to pull their sock ups and stop resting on their laurels. There are more and more better dining places popping up in the area and people will start voting with their feet if you don't offer something worth the price with the service and care to match.
Try Ambrosia, further down the road. They've just had a refit and it's great.
We chose B it was easy to hold a conversation across the whole table. We will definitely be going back to try other dishes and I am happy to recommend B&V to all and sundry 😀
A nice restaurant, service is good with the food delicious!
Buckle & Vaughan is tired. You are given your starters in 5 minutes after ordering. The main course comes 30 seconds after the main is taken away. My salad had come out of the fridge and was freezing cold. The tomatoes were slushy and tasted of nothing. As walking down the stairs to the toilet the glass balustrade is loose and wobbled. Incredibly unsafe, so much so that I would not allow my children to use the toilet downstairs. I feel the restaurant is trading on a reputation it gained a long time ago......
Please give it a facelift and stop bringing food out so quickly.
The best restaurant in Winchmore Hill, a favourite we keep coming back to. Great for British classics, seafood starters and Greek/Turkish style grilled meats. Very good wine list, service and ambience.
Friendly local restaurant with attentive staff and consistently good food. A
place for a casual good value lunch and an evening special event.
Apparently the management have changed - this was noticeable as there was no front of house presence, no hello or a greeting.
The staff were a bit meek and mild or were chatting to each other and the service suffered as a result, for example, the place was virtually empty but it took 10 minutes to get a G&T!
Then the food - I had pasta which was okay - not hot and very messy and a production to eat, my partner had chicken (they forgot the rice).
Based on this experience, I wouldn't rush back nor would I recommend it but we have had some lovely evenings there previously. Hopefully the staff and management can tweak to get it back on track, it would be shame for B&V to go off radar.
My vegetable side didn't arrive until i was halfway through my steak. Wait staff were advised my me that i was still waiting for them. Wait staff shpuld have come over more often to see if we wanted drinks, we had 2 rounds and would have had more had we been able to get the attention of wait staff.
Nice touch to give complimentary birthday desert with a candle
I have eaten at B & V several times and have never been disappointed. The food is well cooked and presented. Staff are friendly and attentive without being a nuisance. A lovely lunch menu which is good value.
Service- nobody knew what they were doing. Drinks- were not worth the very long wait time , despite not being busy. Food- largely cold and the food- bacon so unbelievably salty it was disgusting, overall tasted like the value range you’d buy in a supermarket.
Very slow service is the only downfall to be honest. Great food and cocktail menu
