Bull on Bell Street Ratings and Reviews
This is now the fourth time that we have met with friends and family and had a meal and drinks at the Bull on Bell Street.
We have always had good service and great food, the restaurant is always clean and staff very attentive
Well done to all and would recommend to friends to book
Good selection of cocktails and gins for a pre meal drink. Menu had a lot of tasty dishes making it difficult to choose one. Food was delicious and will have to go back and work my way through the menu. Enjoyed the ambience which felt cosy and friendly. Staff were helpful and friendly.
This was a first time trying the food at The Bull but I have previously visited the pub for drinks. The staff were quick to seat us and provided us with complementary Brakespear bread while we ordered which was lovely. I order the cheese soufflé as a main and my mother order the duck which was presented beautifully. It was my first time trying cheese soufflé and I would definitely have it again after visiting The Bull! We also ordered the hot chocolate pudding which was rich and chocolatly! Definitely would recommend this pub to anyone!
Great food and atmosphere for dinner with friends or as a couple. Loved the crab gratin & braised beef, there were clean plates all round. It was a bonus that there was live music in the bar area that did not disturb the dining area.
Would definately recommend! Great service too!
We came here for Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. My husband and son shared the roast platter, which was huge with plenty of meat and vegetables, in fact it would probably have been enough for three normal sized appetites! I had the roast beef, which was very good. Everything was cooked really well, with crispy roast potatoes and vegetables with a slight bite to them. The service started off really well, but tailed off after we finished our main courses and we had to wait quite a while to get someone for our bill.
We will definitely be back, either for another Sunday roast or to try the weekday menu.
I have lunch at the Bull quite often during the week and I am very happy with the service and food. staff are always very pleasant and efficient. I had Sunday lunch last week with my daughter and we were impressed with the size of portion and speed of service. I like the décor and the tables are very comfortable. I shall continue to use the Bull on a regular basis.
On arriving at 9pm the Bull was quite quiet, but this didn't matter as we were sitting down to eat...within an hour or so the atmosphere had completely changed thanks to a couple of guys filling the live music spot - thanks to them we danced off some of the food calories.
The food was good and all 3 of us changed something on our order which was accommodated without issue, I swapped chips for courgette fries and did think the portion was a bit frugal to be honest - not a major issue though, the burger made up for it in spades!!!
Buzzy atmosphere in the Bull restaurant, partly due to background pub noisyon a Friday night. Excellent service from charming French restaurant manager. My starter of asparagus a bit on the small side with only 3 spears but with aoili, toast and Parma ham was surprisingly filling. Agai. The main of sea bass also quite small and slightly overwhelmed by the generous portion of new potatoes that it is served with. All the food was well cooked and carefully presented.
I took my husband to The Bull for his birthday last night and we had a lovely time. The menu is rich in diverse choices, something my husband likes very much. The Parsnip food is the best we've had, and that includes my own, simple, rich and not over herbed like too many places, it was thich and smooth and disappeared very quickly. We both chose the Sea Bass, which was another lovely treat. Perfectly done fillets with an unusual but well executed bed of very lightly curried mussels and aubergine, zuchini, and other vegetables, but the curry ws like a chiffon veil and did not overwhelm the luscious mussels. This was accompanied by onion Bajat, which were very dark fried onions I think, but they did not taste burnrt, just added a bit of crunch and a delicious flavor - my first experience eating this. He also ordered a side of Parmesan Chips, which were the only thing not perfect, not enough Parmesan, and the chips were too thick for this kind of speciality potato side. We had a lovely bottle of wine which was quite reasonable. Over all, a lovely time, we will return again soon.
We had a great, relaxed meal pre-cinema on Thursday evening. A lovely sunny summer's evening so drinks outside first of all. The specials were all explained well and in detail. The staff had clearly been well briefed by the chef and they sounded like they'd actually tried the meals themselves which is always good. We ordered the Asparagus with Parmesan custard and the Chicken Liver parfait which were both excellent. For mains we had the Chicken Supreme and the Mixed Grill from the specials board again both perfectly cooked and oozing flavours. All in all thoroughly recommended. Keep up the good work.
A lovely pub but we were very disappointed with the food. The staff were all lovely and couldn't have been more helpful. Lovely atmosphere too. We were there at a weekend for lunch and the food really wasn't very good. Would probably go again if we were local just to see if we were unlucky the first time as it was otherwise such a nice place.
I would recommend 'The Bull' to anyone for food, service, ambiance and an all round 'great' place to go and eat, drink and watch the live entertainment on selected evenings ! A 'fantastic' place for families to go also as they are made to feel very welcome, sadly a rare thing with other establishments these days !
Sad that two things on the menu were no longer available especially on a Saturday night. The lemon sole ( replacing the halibut steak) was presented with the ' frilly bones' (sorry don't know the correct name) and I think they should have been removed but was delicious. The Eton mess was mainly cream and not much fruit or meringue. Lastly, the listed NZ Sauvignon Blanc was no longer available - why was it on the wine list?
However, great service and despite these niggles, all the dishes were delicious and the service was attentive, prompt and apologetic where necessary. I will return!
We nearly very much enjoyed are meal,
The spoiler was the chips, the recipe was fine ( but for 3 large black I think slug holes ! )
in general the atmosphere & service good,
I can only think maybe they were really busy at the time,
yours sincerely John Britten
