A special occasion and we had high hopes, having had good meals here in the past. Should have been warned when they stopped me on the door and said "cash only". So I had to go find a cashpoint Then they said that the wine list wasn't available. They offered cheap supermarket wine at £25 per bottle instead! Not much choice to go elsewhere with a party of 6 at 8.30 on a Saturday night, so I swallowed hard and pretended to have a good time. My guests were embarrassed for me I think! A glass of fizz with dessert helped, but damage done. Meal was fine, pricey, but fine. Not again I'm afraid. Was once very good, but I'd not go back again now. I'd not expect a restaurant to be sustainable like this for very long...

Always love the atmosphere in the restaurant. The service was quick and friendly. Although we seemed to be waited on by several different members of staff rather than having one person assigned to our table. The food was delicious and there was a good range available.

Basically a bar with tables, and not particularly comfortable with them packed in too close. On asking what the house wine was I was told it was a French Merlot, what turned up was an Argentinian Malbec; and on questioning, the staff were unable to comprehend the diffidence! The food was ok, but only when on a 50% deal which brings the cost down to what the meal should be worth - over priced when paying the full al a cart cost! Overall uninspiring.

The food was good but the service was terrible. It was July and very hot outside AND inside the restaurant. They said they had air conditioning but they had the windows open and it did nothing to cool the room. We had to ask for water multiple times and the wait staff seemed to avoid our table. The food was good and I'm not sure if the inattentive wait staff was due to the unseasonably hot weather so I'd give them one more try on a cooler day.

i read many good reviews, but unfortunately, it didn't work for us. between the each table space didn't have enough space, also waitresses didn't speak well english so it was difficult to understand what they said. food was OK, but it wasn't real french dish.

Had a great meal with friends at Cafe des Amis. Don't hesitate making a reservation at this restaurant, tips key away in a side street near the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. We had the 50% off total bill deal which meant that the price per head for 3 course and a bottle of wine per person (yes I know- it was one of those evenings!) came to just over £40 per head including service charge. The restaurant is lovely. The only reason I didn't score the ambiance as 5 stars was because we chose to sit outside in the pavement as it was a lovely evening. There isn't much of a view out there, but we didn't mind. The service, food and wine were excellent. Our party enjoyed olive and almond nibbles, starters including perfect calamari and tuna tartare; delicious mains courses of home made papperdelle with salmon, prawn and mussels and lamb with fondant potatoes; and delicious deserts like individual cheesecakes and the must have chocolate soup with black pepper ice cream! All washed down with a perfectly nice Australian Sauvignon bland and a Merlot that I'm told was very good. All in all a winner, the food was perfect including the portion size which was generous and the service friendly and attentive. I'd challenge anyone not to have a great night out at this restaurant, a real find in Covent Garden and now that I've found it... I will most definitely be back.

We arrived at the resturant and were shown to our tabe then ignored for about 15 mins when a waiter came to take our order then half way through he disappeared then after about 10 mins a waitress came over with a dirty unironed shirt on who was quite rude she took our order. the food came which was nice then when the bill arrived they tried to overcharge up by about £40 for drinks we didnt have and I could see the same thing happening on another table close by. Overall it is a shame as the food was nice but shocking service bad attitude and I will never return.

Wouldn't have gone here if open table didn't give the 50% discount offer. However even with the offer it was still pretty expensive and honestly food was only really worth the amount after the 50% discount. Staff were lovely and atmosphere was okay for central London location. With so much choice around the area this restaurant isn't really the best option price wise (the cheapest bottle of red was about £27!) you might as well pay this much to go somewhere more fancy.

We went for a pre-theatre meal. The cafe is difficult to find, being situated in a small alley-way. Better information on locating it would have helped. Service was pleasant and the ambiance was good. The food was OK, although containing rather more oil than I would have wanted. The bill was high for some fairly average offerings.

Generally very good and attentive service albeit with a couple of quirky moments such as being advised that our Taxi had arrived, this before we had finished or paid for our meal, and even more surprising since we had not ordered said transport. Could be very awkward with patrons limited in thier English abilities.

We enjoyed the entree's and mains but the Creme brulee for dessert was cold and very disappointing. The service was slow and when our waitress finally did take our order she then disappeared! We had to ask other service staff to attend to us therefore were seen to by many different people over the course of the night. We were seated right up next to the bar so had all the service staff walking to and fro behind us all evening, this was a bit distracting. The toilets could do with a pampering.

Set in a side lane off Long Acre in Covent Garden, this little gem is a haven in a mad world. If the weather is good, as it has been, it's lovely to sit outside and watch the world go by. Some of whom are thevRoyal Ballet dancers and assorted theatre artistes. The staff are very pleasant and the food is good. If you're able to ge one of the many special offers that this restaurant offers, then it's really good value. The only mutter, is not of their making, but the insistence that liver can only be well done due to health and safety, is very annoying, We try to go for late lunch or very early dinner when the place is less busy. The restaurant can be manic at the height of evening dinner service, particularly on Saturdays.

We had a table booked for 7. Sat down at 7. Waiter arrived at 7.10 with menu. So I asked for the special menu. He said "That's only available before 7". I argued. I won. I shouldn't have had to argue. My steak was excellent. My friends duck wasn't.

Very warm welcome from lovely staff. Our starters were OK. We ordered 'mussels with a baguette' as main course. Lovely bowls of mussels in a creamy sauce were served with three tiny slices of garlic bread. As we started to eat it became apparent that nearly half the mussels had failed to open on cooking. We spoke to the manageress who was deeply apologetic, took them away and promised replacements. When these arrived many of the mussels were still closed but the open ones were overcooked! (a minute in the microwave?) Dessert was again a bit hit and miss - don't order the chocolate fondant it's rather unpleasant. We felt so sorry for the delightful staff who had to serve food from an inadequate kitchen!

Thank god for the discount as it would have been frankly overpriced without it. Also, instead of applying the 50% to the entire bill, they just removed one of each item we had ordered in pairs, leaving the most expensive on the bill of course. Not good value at all without the discount.

You may need to assert yourself to place your dinner order! They were very busy (even at 5.30pm) and although we had booked, and were given a table, we waited 25 minutes before a request finally prompted a waiter to visit our table. After that service was quick and the food fine.

Let's be honest - there's so much garbage in Covent Garden - but Cafe des Amis isn't among them! Enjoyed the soup of the day - simple but delicious - the fried calamari - tasty and went down very well with the crisp sauvignon blanc - and the waiter was kind enough to serve me the chicken caesar wrap from the @Cellar des Amis menu! I was one happy camper!

Disappointed to be presented with terms and conditions of the fifty percent deal before we even got to our table, only then to be presented with a menu that made The Ritz look cheap. No one would pay full price for the dishes, a deal should be just that... And sadly it wasn't. I've been several times to cafe des amis, but I won't be back.

Venue is well placed down a small side road next to Covent Garden station. The decor is fine and tables well spaced apart. Really enjoyed our starters, however we ordered two steaks for our mains and they were burnt and all fat. Very poor for £27 each. Won't be returning.

My husband and I enjoyed our Cafe Des Amis pre -theatre meal last Saturday. We arrived a little early for our booking but that wasn't a problem as they weren't too busy. Our waiting staff were friendly and attentive despite the fact that the restaurant filled up fast. Our food was hot and nicely presented and tasty. With 50% discount we paid an average West End price for above average food. Better than the play we saw after!

I have been with my boyfriend to this restaurant last Friday. We have been very good: good food, good service. It has been more expensive than we expected; we have been there with the Tastecard offer 2 for 1 and we paid average 70£ and we got just two medium glasses of wine out of our bill, which was, we thought, not very exorbitant. After all, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere inside (I do not think it is the same outside and it is not the restaurant fault but it is because of the position), custom-made for couple who would like to have a romantic dinner.

Beware of the half price and free wine offers. Myself and my guest took up this offer but still managed to rack up an £80 bill for 3 courses and no wine. The food here is very good, but be warned this is a very expensive restaurant (£26 for a main course!), and there are many better value ones of equal quality in the covent garden area.

Booked a 50% of total bill deal. The prices in this restaurant are extremely high for what it offers, so even with the discount it is only average value. However getting the discount calculated right took 3 separate embarrassing discussions with the waiter and then with the manager; each time they tried to offer us some lesser discount and not apply the discount to certain items. The food was OK, but the whole experience was highly unsatisfactory. Would never go back,

I had heard good reviews about this place and was recommended to it by a friend, personally I have been to far nicer places for the same price, the service was great and I could not fault that, but the food was a little lacking in taste although the portions were a good size, both my sister and I weren't wowed by the food and we both left saying it was all a little tasteless... Such a shame as it could have the potential to "wow" we had a 50% offer through open table, I'm personally pleased I did not pay full price.
