I was hoping to have the beef shin pie but it must have been on last weeks menu, but the pork cheeks were meltingly delicious and the chantey carrots sublime.
The treacle tart could have been a trifle larger but it was more caramel than syrup based to my mind but delightful all the same,
The no alcohol rule is a bore a nice Beaujolais would have made this an an even more pleasant experience.
Great meal, great restaurant, we were well looked after in a safe environment.
A trip to Cafe St Honore is always a treat- if feels like a true escape as if one is actually in Paris. The food is always wonderful, without exception. Diners have the choice of a more expensive a la carte, or a very agreeable ‘Cafe Classics’ menu. Ingredients are seasonal, high quality and locally sourced.
Given the current restrictions on hospitality we missed the opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine and the atmosphere was slightly muted- not the restaurants fault however and we will certainly look forward to returning in future.
Been here twice — once for dinner and once for lunch. Thoroughly enjoyed both experiences. it’s a great restaurant with a relaxed, informal feel.
I really enjoyed my meal at Café St Honoré even without alcohol. I had a delicious smoked trout pâté followed by a fennel Tarte tatin which was really delicious.
Classic french cooking - ambience like a left bank bistro - cheerful knowledgeable service - first class
Great restaurant, still a lovely lunch even in mid lockdown.
An excellent meal - as ever. We chose the Café Classics and enjoyed all three courses. Good value. Only thing missing was a glass or two of wine!
Looking forward to our next visit.
Even when you can only look at the wine - since alcoholic drinks are off the menu at present - Cafe St Honore gives you the pleasing sense of stepping out of the modern world and into a more glamorous era: Paris of the 1920s, perhaps. Beetroot salad with crowdie, apple, radish and candied walnuts is a joy. Hake was done to perfection, arriving in a pool of finely cut leek, potato, bacon & broth. Lunching alone as a birthday treat has never felt more soothing. Can I go back tomorrow please?
Unique French atmosphere and appropriate menu in these difficult times
Went for lunch for my friend’s birthday. The food was amazing, service was brilliant and the waitresses were lovely.
Would visit again!
Excellent place to have Saturday lunch on a grey November day. Food was delicious.
You have a lovely place and the food was excellent, however your staff who worked on Friday 13, November 2020 were not. I enjoy eating in top quality restaurants and I never mind spending extra money. However sadly your staff were a complete let down. I took my family for a birthday celebration and it was a joy killer. I totally understand that it's a weird time with masks and distancing and it's really horrible and exhausting for staff having to wear a mask all day. However with this in mind the staff were so abrupt, lacked basic manners and could not wait for us to leave and we felt most unwelcomed. I can assure you we are not rude or demanding clients, as we have all worked in the restaurant industry.
This is coming from a fellow business owner whose businesses completly depends on customer service. I would want client's to tell me and not simply not say and never come back.
Really wish you well through the current crisis we are all facing in business.
Excellent 3 course lunch, brilliant confit suck, red cabbage and the best apple creme brûlée - didn’t miss not having wine
Café St Honoré has been one of my favourite restaurants for many years.
Not only is the food exquisite, the care and attention to provenance, the commitment to sustainability make the Café much more than just a good place to eat.
The staff are great, too, you can sense they buy in to the vision and values of the place.
The menu options were more restricted than I believe they were the previous time I looked, but our overall experience was good. We were pleased to find that one of us had a gluten-free menu from which to choose.
The restaurant was pleasantly quiet, and felt safe. Full-length plastic screens were unobtrusive, and made for relaxed conversation.
Lovely little place and gorgeous food. Me and my partner are vegetarians and do worry that our dishes won’t live up to the meat dishes in terms of creativity and quality, but this Cafe’s veggie dishes were amazing.
Visited for my birthday, been before but only for lunch. Had an absolutely amazing meal, had a ribeye steak which was fantastic, nice atmosphere too. Cant wait to visit again.
Really lovely evening, all felt very safe and delicious food
An Edinburgh institution that's provided consistently good food through the years. Food & Drink were excellent for this family lunch.
A friendly welcome, unstuffy ambience, unfussy table, refreshing drinks and a wonderful menu, especially the tasty grouse. Also enhanced by the fact that none of us had been anywhere special since I had received my St Honore voucher last Christmas. Thank you.
Excellent menu - changed daily - the venison was delicious, and loved the scallops. Gluten free was covered very well - and marvellous service. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hope to be back soon!
Loveky lunch, good to get out even with all restrictions and screens.
Nice bistro style food with excellent specials. Good choice of wines by the glass. Friendly and engaging staff and good value for money
Great food and wine at this typical French diner. Not cheap but good value.
Food was delicious!
One of our favourite restaurants in Edinburgh, it did not fail to please.
The meal was really excellent and the staff very attentive- it’s just difficult with the COVID restrictions in a small restaurant to get the same ambience
Inevitably the COVID restrictions dampened the atmosphere but the quality of food and excellence of service was as good as ever.
Possibly my favourite place to eat, definitely one of the best restaurants in Edinburgh.
The Staff were very helpful and explained the Covid regulations succinctly
The food was absolutely delicious a really enjoyable evening out
Lovely relaxed weekend lunch. Nice buzz about the place even without background music. Food and service top notch as always, with covid measures in place without feeling stifled. Gold stars all round :)
Excellent food. Great ingredients carefully and skilfully prepared, flavour combinations that work.
We were their worst nightmare. Didn’t look at menu before booking and sat down only to realise we don’t eat any of the mains and felt terrible. We’re really struggling. And we couldn’t leave becos with Covid you’ve put down a deposit. Felt v awkward and told waiter, who immediately offered to make us something off menu. A ribeye steak with pepper sauce and chips. Perfect. The scallop starter was delicious, the mains exactly what we were after and lovely creme brulee dessert. The service just fantastic. He made us feel totally comfortable. The ambience was lovely, intimate but we felt v safe. All in all, thanks to the adaptable staff and kitchen we had a lovely evening.
We went for some fancier food and as vegetarians we felt the menu choice was delicious.
A little pricey, depending on your budget, delicious food, great ambience and lovely staff.
I have been here several times and through the challenging times all restaurants face they not only have been the best food but so far the best Covid safety I have seen. Well done
2nd visit for lunch, not disappointed at all, food was lovely. However if I remember, their was a choice of each course last time, but given the existing economic climate, understand the change. Will definitely return, thank you
Edinburgh institution with lovely ambience, great food and great value
The food was absolutely superb with excellent flavours throughout. Service was also very good. Highly recommended. We will be returning on our next visit to Edinburgh.
The evening was made even more memorable by the very generous Mastercard/Open Table Dine Local promotion which meant that we only had to pay for our alcoholic drinks as our food and soft drinks were paid for by Mastercard. Thank you very much Mastercard, this was a lovely surprise.
Delicious food which is all locally sourced in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
