This is one of my favourite restaurants, really, it is but I was very disappointed with this visit. The service was lackluster, friendly but really laid-back, didn't feel special or particularly welcome.
And the food really wasn't what I've come to expect from Cafe St Honoré - just mediocre. To be absolutely honest I could have been eating at Cafe Rouge. Just not spectacular and that's what I'm used too. Nothing memorable compared to the Summer when I had several dishes, including a spearmint ice-cream that I still can't stop talking about. Please bring that feeling and quality of dishes back?
My husband and I went for Sunday lunch and were very disappointed by the quality of the food. We both ordered the turkey dinner and it was edible but didn’t taste memorable at all. The turkey was dry and over cooked and luke warm, the vegetables were again, luke warm and mediocre. Considering the meal cost us just under £80, we left feeling ripped off and will not be returning.
Took friends there fir lunch fir first time. We all loved the food & wine.
We’ve been here a number of times & the food & service have always been excellent.
Very limited menu, but this is not necessarily a bad thing, smoked salmon (mild, not heavily oak smoked) starter and Hake main course in particular, outstandingly perfect. Corner table which we were allocated next to entrance porch subject to cold drafts whenever outside door opened. Cake and ice cream dessert a bit mediocre, my wife enjoyed Christmas pudding. The all female serving staff were delightful and competent, service with a smile. Wine list overpriced.

Really like this restaurant however on night we went there was only one other occupied table so pretty atmosphere less I’m
Afraid. Food and staff very nice just lacked ambiance due to lack of other diners.
One the the tastiest meals I’ve had. An absolute gem & was recommended to us. Perfect on all ways.
Excellent food and good food really enjoyed it he evening there! The Sicillian red was the xcellent and good value! We will be back!
The food was delicious and great as usual, except the dessert was nothing special. Seating was horribly cold in the lower part of the restaurant and the toilet was a desaster!
This was my first visit due to a voucher given by a friend. Food choice for lunch was good and adequate choice for lunch. Portions just right to manage three courses and a glass of wine, followed by coffee. No dinner required after that feast.
Ambience was lovely and staff very attentive. Would happily come back and recommend to friends.
Great service, good selection of food sand wine...we have a quick lunch on the way to the rugby, we’ll be back for a leisurely dinner not.. good selection of fine wine by the glass too
lovely intimate birthday meal.
looked after beautifully.
GEM. Can’t believe we stumbled on this lovely wee romantic French restaurant. I really felt I was in a Parisian suburb.
Beautiful atmosphere, not overly fussy menu or wine list. Perfectly happy to serve us beer with our meal, & good to see local breweries represented.
We were horrendously late because of traffic but the staff were very accommodating.
Very busy when I arrived on time for our booking and after nearly 10 minutes I had to find a waiter to order a drink (my companions had been served already as I was the last to arrive). We ordered scallops which at £18 for 3 were a bit pricey and unfortunately gritty...we just left the unpalatable bits as the rest of it was very tasty. My companion declared the beef bourgignon to be one of the best she had ever had - high praise indeed to match the cost at £23. I should however have chosen it instead of the semi raw underwhelming beetroot tarte tatin. £10 for a single slice of 1 cheese and some oatcakes and frugal bits (even though it was very nice) is just not value for money. On the whole the food was good but service was slow and it's overpriced.
Very enjoyable lunch. Great food. Nice ambience. Good service. Would recommend.
My girlfriend and I had a table booked for our second anniversary. The moment we walked in, it felt like we were in a cosy restaurant in France. The waiting staff were all very nice and helpful, always asking if we needed refills and how our food was. The food was amazing.
We both had the chicken parfait to start which I now prefer over pate. The plate size was perfect and it filled a hole. I got the bed stew for my main while my gf had the steak. We shared of course. Both were delicious. We then both for the chocolate dessert which melted in the mouth.
The atmosphere was great and we were not rushed after we finished our food. We rolled home afterwards and were very happy with our visit :) will definitely be back.
Amazing food and lovely environment!! Loved the starter, desert and lovely wine! Very good value for the price. Would definitely recommend!!
Wonderful meal to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. My husband chose from the a la carte menu, I chose from the cafe classics (excellent value!). Both our meals were delicious and the service was very good. If ever we return to Edingburgh, we will certainly return to taste more of the locally sourced produce. Perfect.
Our experience here was fantastic in everyway! The atmosphere was quiet, cozy and authentic of a French bistro. The food was exquisitely prepared and so very delicious! We had smoked salmon, chicken terrine, roast beef, Duck leg confit, pumpkin risotto, , dark chocolate fondant, crème brulee with French wine.
Found this little hidden gem in Edinburgh. Great food & great ambiance. This will be our no. 1 choice for all future visits to Edinburgh.
Unfailingly good, very good food/value/attentive staff - good choice for central location or for special occasions
My partner and I had a date at Cafe At Honore whilst visiting Edinburgh and totally loved it. This was one of the best meals we had in town and are really happy that we found this place. The attentive service was a great addition to their amazing daily menu. I definitely recommend it
Perfect meal in a perfect restaurant. Only one quibble - we would have liked a little more time between courses to fully savour the great food
This is a hidden Gem! Romantic with delicious food. The lamb, pork belly, and starters we tried were all fantastic.
I highly recommend for a foodie on a date.
A spur of the moment trip to Edinburgh, and there's only one place to eat. As fantastic a place as ever. Lovely setting, amazing food, and staff who are attentive and we'll versed in there positions. Congratulations on a Resturant like no other.
Staff were uninterested and amateurish. For a place that is supposed to be sustainable, tap water was offered as a third choice, after still and sparkling bottled water. Menu was not the same as advertised on the website for that night. Cooking was uninspiring.
It looks nice from the outside.
A lovely romantic night out, great food & wine, excellent service - we will definitely be back. Thank you.
Menu is based on fresh, seasonal ingredients and expertly cooked and presented
We had a great dinner on Saturday night, perfect food and service.
Feels like a French restaurant from the 1970s but with perfectly cooked Scottish produce.
Simply, an excellent meal.
Well done. We will be back.
Sea buckthorn posset with pears and shortbread was divine
Excellent ambience; food and wine. Very attentive service.
Lovely French bistro serving local Scottish produce. Excellent value lunch menu. Wine is on the pricier side. Food was well executed however, the service was a bit lack-lustre and the server spilled the food around the plate on the way to us. Was very quiet for a Sunday afternoon.
Great food and ambience. We loved the wine list and the seasonal and carefully sourced ingredients were amazing.
I am a regular but always look forward to my next visit.
This was my second visit to Cafe St. Honorè, and I will be looking for a reason to return any time I'm lucky enough to be in Edinburgh. The restaurant has the feel of something secret and special - tucked at the bend of a quiet lane in the shadow of the castle, clearly there for ages, small but not too small. What a great surprise to find fantastic modern bistro food served inside, full of classic dishes with just the right amount of creativity, made with fresh, local ingredients. Don't miss this!
We were only able to get an early table as it was "day of" so it was a little quiet but the set menu was great value and suitable for vegetarians. The food was excellent & the wine choice thoughtful.
I was visiting from New York & when we do so again in December, we have made a reservation at a more civilized time. Recommend.
As wonderful and reliable as ever, with great ambience. Supporting independent restaurants is important.
Great ambience and good food at reasonable cost. An excellent place to take friends old and new.
The food was excellent and the service friendly and professional.
Outstanding bistro. Hitting on every cylinder from service to food to ambiance. Highest accolades!
