Overall, we quite enjoyed our meal at Cafe St. Honore. The appetizers were absolutely delicious spins on classic dishes. They were both light and fresh with diverse flavors and textures. Our entrees were quite palatable, however, lacked some inspiration. Our two vastly different meals (sea hake and lamb) were both placed atop identical potato mashes. These pairings left us feeling satisfied, albeit slightly deflated, as we each hoped for a more diverse culinary experience associated with the hefty price tag.
Excellent service and really imaginative food - Scotland meets France. Had dinner there to celebrate a significant wedding anniversary. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle, but still a central location. Good choice of wine. A meal to remember.
Odd location but worth it! Delicious, imaginative food! Love the use of local Scottish ingredients with a slight French flair. Good wine list. Would definately return if in Edinburgh! A superb meal!
Last minute booking. Food good. Service very accommodating and pleasant. Will definitely be back.
When we came on Friday night it was not busy and a quiet atmosphere which was nice. We (4 persons) were ready to order from the main menu when the servant offered us a special menu for this evening which we accepted. But we did not realise that this must have been ready made because the food was not at all good and was served in such a hurry. The starter was supposed to be lobster but was mostly a very spicy sausage, the main course was a quail which was not warm and tasted and looked like it was raw. And all of us had the feeling that we must eat in a hurry, so they could shovel us out! The servants were always checking if we had finished. We all had an apéritif which we could not enjoy because the food came in such a hurry and both the white and the red wine together and as we had not had time to finish our drink and so the table was stacked with glasses and bottles. Sorry to say it was not at all a good experience and much below our expectations.
The meal was great. It was recommended byba friend and did not disappoint.
Cafe St Honoré has been our go-to place for special occasions for many years. It's like a little piece of Paris in the middle of Edinburgh. Fantastic atmosphere, low-key, professional service, and simple, beautifully cooked dishes, with many ingredients locally sourced. The 'cafe classic' menu option (~£20 for 3 courses) is great value if you are happy with a limited choice of menu. I would absolutely recommend for couples and small parties.
We were there on vacation from Canada and found this restaurant to have a cozy atmosphere. The meal was superb and was greatly enjoyed by both of us. I would highly recommend it for any occasion. You will not be disappointed.
Excellent value had classic lunch menu. Good service. Very relaxed.
Best meal in Scotland at the end of a 3 week visit.
Have been eating here for almost 15 years
Maintains high standard and never disappoints. Have recommended to many friends and colleagues visiting Edinburgh over the years. All now try to impress their friends by stating "Cafe St Honore was their find" !
Excellent atmosphere and food with friendly and efficiant staff.
This restaurant can be difficult to find if you are not familiar with the area, but it’s worth the effort. The welcome is warm, the service is attentive, and the food is delicious.
We dined at The Dome on Friday night and here on the Thursday night, Cafe St Honore was by far the better of the two! The ambiance is great, the service timely and friendly and the food was really really good. Well worth a visit.
Been to the fabulous Cafe St Honore numerous times and always leave knowing that we have eaten fantastic organic-locally scoured food, drank delicious wine, had amazing service, whats not to love.
Excellent friendly service and outstanding local sourced ingredients in a lovely bistro style atmosphere.
Absolutely outstanding food. Clearly well thought out with great attention to detail. Excellent wine list and we were looked after impeccably by the staff.
Very good real French style restaurant tucked into a quiet cul de sac in Edinburgh . The service is very efficient and friendly and well organised . The lunch menu was not extensive ( four or five choices of starter / mains and dessert ) but there was enough choice to satisfy most diners . Each of the dishes were well crafted and cooked perfectly. We enjoyed our lunch in this beautiful restaurant.
It was the first time my wife and I dined in this lovely restaurant and won’t be the last. The food was first class and the service very professional and polite.
This is a gem of a restaurant...I wish I had watched Rebus years ago!
Lovely afternoon- perfect ambience in middle of festival madness!!
I like the location and vibe of Cafe St. Honore, but honestly I've had better food elsewhere. The food was good, just not up to par to some of the other places I've been in Scotland. I started with a scallop app special. The scallops were cooked perfectly, but were lacking seasoning. My entree of pork belly was falling apart tender, but missing the nice crisp exterior that I love so much.
So again, very good food, just lacking in the finishing touches.
As this was our first visit, finding the restuarant was a bit of a challenge. Once we had tracked it down, we were impressed by the menu although no help was given by the waiting staff when asked about various items. The food was excellently prepared and the meal was generally of a high standard and good value in this busy restaurant.
The one major downside was the wine list in which all the wines and drinks were eye-wateringly expensive even common supermarket wines. You would struggle to find a restaurant in central London exploiting their clients these mark ups.
Verdict: enjoy the good value food and stick to tap water.
Excellent cooking, lovely atmosphere, pleasant waiting staff. Perfect for lunch when lots of talk is the order of the day.
Had a lovely evening to mark the end of our festival fortnight. Was initially disappointed that there was a shortened menu...not as comprehensive as on the website ...but there was enough to choose from and it was freshly made, well presented and tasted delicious. Lovely ambience lovely staff good service. This was not my first visit and I will certainly be back! Highly recommended.
Wonderful bistro with excellent food have visited many times and never disappoints, our favourite in Edinburgh
We had a lovely dinner and look forward to our next booking with you
Visited twice in one week. Lunch and dinner with friends. Excellent each time in every way! Highly recommended.
I'd read a few good reviews about Cafe St Honore and wasn't disappointed on a recent trip to Edinburgh. Everything about it was exquisite. It's tucked away down a side street and oozes gallic charm. The service and food are totally top notch and the bill wasn't outrageous. I'd love to come here again - book it!
Lovely small-scale place
Genuine food well cooked reasonable prices. The fixed menu is especially good value
Assiduously sourced ingredients are deftly assembled here in this cosy spot in the grandiose New Town. The notable French cuisine is paired with the memorable ambience of the decoration (that of a lively French bistro), to the extent that Cafe St Honoré has quickly become my favourite Scottish slice of la vie Parisienne.
We were delighted to find a pretty french bistro tucked away in the New Town part of Edinburgh. The very gallic atmosphere, good service and imaginative food made for a very enjoyable meal. If I lived in Edinburgh, I would make this a regular place to dine.
Still my favourite Edinburgh restaurant with a true French bistro atmosphere and great cooking with locally-sourced ingredients with great provenance.
My partner, who’s a real foodie, declared that her main of confit duck was the best plate of food she’s ever had.
Great service fronts a great menu in a great environment.
Here on the recommendation of a friend. What a delightful find.
Cafe in the style of a French bistro but serving the best local and organic foods.
Service friendly, relaxed and delightful.
Food was prepared, cooked and presented wonderfully.
This is about the 8 th time we have dined here, it never fails to impress
Excellent food in a lovely atmosphere, and a special mention for the chocolate fondant dessert which was perfection.
Wonderful food and ambiance in New Town. Weeere especially appreciative of our server who took extra care to investigate the status of the cheeses (pasteurized vs unpasteurized) as my wife has sensitivity and health concerns.
Also, the place has great wines at a decent price.
Have been here many times over the years and the cooking is still spot on. Lovely cod dish with perfect amount of potato, leeks and smoked haddock in the sauce plus delicious reaspberry parfait both from the a la Carter menu. Also other good choices on the daily £20 menu.
A most enjoyable meal once more at Cafe St Honore. A good selection of courses, well presented and tasty. A great place for lunch when visiting Edinburgh.
This french restaurant is tucked away just off Thistle Lane. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The menu is sebsibly short, with an a lacarte and cafe classics. I had ham hock terraine with salad leaves and piccalilli then meat balls with greens and mash. Excellent . I didn’t try the deserts as I didn’t have room! The wine list is very good. I will definately return if I’m in Edinburgh.
