Bringing 1940s Paris to modern-day Edinburgh, Café St Honoré restaurant is a charming bistro serving up traditional French cuisine (with a few Scottish favourites thrown in) to a loyal clientele. Tucked away on a picturesque cobbled lane in the New Town, the cosy dining room at Café St Honore, with mirrored walls and black-and-white tiled floors, provides an atmospheric retreat. The team here are passionate about local, organic produce, so the menu changes daily. There are prix fixe menus on offer at lunch and dinner if you’re after a bargain, or just need an excuse to indulge in dessert. In the evening, a seasonal menu du jour is available alongside the full a la carte, which features dishes like roast pheasant with red cabbage and pancetta; Shetland salmon with leek and herb risotto; and vanilla crème brûlée. The wine list features some excellent French wines – a real treat for novices and connoisseurs alike.

I had keen to try this restaurant for a while and booked a table for a leisurely Sunday lunch.
I really enjoyed the food, intimate setting and surroundings.
I’d like to try it for dinner.
The wine prices were on the pricey side which was a bit off putting.
Overall - worth seeking out.

We had the Pre theatre menu. The quality of the ingredients and cooking were superb. My only slight criticism would be that the main course (pork belly) could have had a bit more vegetable with it, it really wasn't much more than a forkful. However we loved the cooking and would go back for sure.

Busy, but service very good. Coley was only fish main. It’s a cheap fish. £22 pricey for that- should have been cod! But all else good.

Excellent! Stress-free dining - even GF/DF.
A charming restaurant tucked away off the beaten track but right in the heart of Edinburgh. Decor inspired by classic Parisian cafes of old.
First class service. Inspiring menu.

Never been to York before and booked last minute - we had a really enjoyable evening at Cafe St Honore - food was really delicious and service excellent. We really liked to the quite, gentle atmosphere after a long journey.

As intended, it is just like being in a Parisian restaurant (except the service is polite). The food is not trying to be complicated, it is just a great mixture of tastes cooked to perfection.

Main menu was expensive and set meal had limited choice of only 2 items. I expected more than 1 cheese for the cheese board. Would be more suited to couples rather than a group of girls.

Had not been here for about ten years so thought it was about time for another visit. We went at lunchtime, and given the price of the somewhat limited dishes on the main menu (more expensive than places like The Ivy), opted for the fixed price option. This in itself was no bad thing, albeit the food was pretty average. What was of greater concern was the speed the dishes arrived at - it states it is an Express Menu but this was verging on ridiculous. The first course arrived less than 5 minutes from ordering and we had not even finished the aperitifs., with the second and third courses arriving within minutes of the previous plates being cleared. People at other tables using the Express menu did not seem to be under the pressure we felt. The wine list is very expensive for some pretty average wines and not much for under £30. All in all, pretty disappointing but we maybe picked the wrong day.

Honestly the best food I’ve had in a while! It was all delicious. The gluten free menu was just as varied as the normal menu (for once!) and all incredible. The staff were lovely and attentive. Would really recommend visiting!

Never recommend as tastes vary. As so often happens service becomes less attentive as meal progresses! Restaurant IS good but cant say it is "outstanding". Wines mostly expensive

My first visit (but on the recommendation of my wife who had been previously for lunch) and the whole experience was excellent. We chose from the a la carte menu, and it is not cheap but well worth it for a taste of French style. The wine choice was also excellent (and also not that cheap). I'd highly recommend it.

Excellent service and ambience , quiet initially but as room filled up , and wine consumed , noise level quite high

Food very good . Set lunch good value and excellent for one guest , but others needed to get what they wanted from a la Carte which is a bit pricey .

Food was good however the dessert was a disappointment with the topping burnt and tasting as such. As a diary free option it was not interesting or worth the money paid.
The service was okay but the staff weren't particularly warm or engaging.
We'd visited for our anniversary. Would perhaps visit again for a lunch or evening meal deal but not for a special occasion as lacked lustre.

I have not been to this restaurant for 30 years; it was a favourite of mine in the late 1980's.
The service and ambience were excellent.
The food was good, although one of my guests complained theirs was cold.
Nice choice of wines.
Uncomfortable chairs!
Very enjoyable lunch . Could hear what people were saying. Not too noisy.

Excellent service - food was first rate , haven’t had better duck confit anywhere , including here in Paris.
The cheese plate is a gold-standard and should be taught in culinary schools as to how to present and plate .
Thank you

An ambiance is achieved by the intimacy of the restaurant with hints towards the French influences, tables are quite close can be drafty near the door seating.
Portions size are French cuisine style, choice is limited but varied. Good wine list. Reasonably priced.
Overall a pleasant experience, well cooked and served.

This place did not disappoint. I was looking for a romantic venue for an anniversary meal for a husband with a penchant for French cuisine. The dishes were all perfect for him and wide ranging enough to suit all tastes. The atmosphere and decor made the night feel like we were genuinely in France. I’d highly recommend to anyone looking for a similar experience.
