Food options were decent. Service was abysmal. Would not go back again.
I love the decor and the atmosphere is a great Latin influence. The appetizer we ordered was the pulpo which was okay not the best, chewy but what do you except for octopus. The food was okay the flavors were good but I feel the quality could be better made. We ordered a skirt steak which was more of a brisket and the chicken was dry but the yuca and curtido sides were good. For dessert the flan was ok, I’ve had better, felt store bought. Overall the drinks and atmosphere was what makes it a nice place.
The service was slow and very non-attentive regarding food and refilling water. They came by for ordering more drinks several times. We waited for the ordering food, bringing it to us and asked for a check twice. Before the dinner I asked two different people about celebrating my friend’s birthday with a candle and they said they would. That did NOT occur. Very disappointing.
We love to visit Calle Ocho regularly as a pre theatre dinner for performances at the Delacorte in Central Park. Our early dinner is always prompt, quiet and delicious with just the right Latin flair. We both opted for the surf and turf and while the beef was perfection, presentation lovely, and plate filled bountifully, the lobster tail was an empty shell filled with lobster "stuffing"-- dry and tasteless, which kept this review from 5 stars. There was enough else on the plate that no one was left hungry but if I ordered it again i'd opt to simply skip the "surf" and thoroughly enjoy the "turf".
My second time here, and would definitely come back again!!
A favorite of ours: wonderful location, great food, great sangria and cocktails, friendly service, and a fun but tasteful atmosphere.
My wife and I had a wonderful time and it was the perfect birthday celebration
Food was good.ambiance was energetic,loud...the staff were somewhat attentive, were busy.had to call a staff that passed by to get what we wanted several times.drinks could be better.
Very enjoyable dining experience. The service was very attentive and the food matched a previous dining experience at this restaurant. We tried the tapas and they were as good as we have had in NYC>
This is my go-to brunch spot! I love the food and the vibe. I’ve been here several times and it never disappoints. Brunch menu has new dishes added and i tried two which were really good. My reservation was at 2pm, so the atmosphere was really energetic and lively because of the music playing. I personally like going earlier so it’s a little more quiet.
Drinks used to come in wine glasses and now they come in regular glasses so presentation looks like a soda. Also the server was not attentive, we pretty much had to flag him down.
Calle Ocho was one of the hottest brunch spots, you would have to book 3 or 4 weeks in advance to get a reservation, so I was surprised when I was able to get a brunch reservation a few days before the weekend.
However, it soon became apparent why it's no longer as popular - the menu has changed, they've removed their best dish (the latin benedict), the bread and strawberry butter (one of our favorites) took 30 mins to come out, and when it did there was far less of it than in the past, and it was never topped up. The sangria, that was once topped up constantly is now 90% ice, with your server maybe coming every 20-25mins. All in all, it's very disappointing to see a restaurant we once loved go so down hill.
I hope they take on board the feedback and fix these things, as Calle Ocho was great in the past and one of the best brunch spots in the city.
Amazing service and even more amazing food! Will absolutely go back again. And this time with a group
Loved it, will come back agajn
Good food. Loved the Choclo Dulce app. Mains are large portions. The Sea bass is exquisite. Service a bit slow. the one downside - the sangrias are smooth but wicked. so go easy on the drinks - and check your bill for honest mistakes
It’s near The museum of natural history, so it’s quite convenient after a visit. The service is good and love the bread here!
Amazing brunch! Unlimited sangrias and great food!!
Amazing! So worth the price. Waiters always make sure your glass is full and bread and muffins to start off with strawberry butter is delicious. Latin American cuisine was great- definitely would recommend the Shrimp and Grits!! Sangrias are amazing. Great for a boozy brunch at any time, just make sure to book your reservation as soon as possible.
Great food, strong drinks, and friendly service.
Very energetic main dining area.
-Consistently delicious food
-Friendly and courteous staff
-Child friendly and accommodating
-Hands down our favorite place
Just a few minor things in my opinion:
-Great ambiance but the music is played a little too loudly. It’s obnoxious especially if you’re seated near the speakers
-Some of the cushions in the booths are worn down
Over priceed glorified fake Latin food. Place was warm. Our bottle of sparkling water was warm. We had to ask for ice twice. No flavor lobster. Oh by the way, bit on a 3mm stone in my so-called paella, and manager offer me dessert?! Don't waste your $.
This is place you would go for a nice ambiance but food was just ok. Drinks were better. Also, more effort can be made as far as birthdays.. they failed greatly in that area.
$30 for bottomless brunch with 8 different kinds of sangria. One of the best brunch deals in NYC. Very loud though. Make sure you make a reservation.
We love calle ocho - great apps, drink menu and the grilled calamari is divine.
Second time at Calle Ocho and I have nothing but positive reviews :) . The staff were friendly and professional. Had a lot of fun at brunch. Will be back!
Wait staff have absolutely no interest in proper service. They basically deliver your food and never look back.
Good food. Good service. We were tucked into a nice booth and found the place quite yet quite busy. We would certainly return! Sangria and authentic food!
Excellent food, with a wide variety to choose from. The wait staff is friendly and efficient. The restaurant is spacious, so even when they are at full capacity, you never feel that you are crowded in - a big plus!!
The appetizers were really good. Wish the arepas had atleast one more pancake for all the brisket. Entrées were good, but the mojitos were better. I love the mojitos! Server was attentive, but sort of unnecessarily loud. He was still cool. My family was pleased and would go back for appetizers and drinks.
One of the better UWS restaurants, I thought their Paella was better than ones I had in Spain.
I went for my birthday celebration with my friend’s and my son. I enjoyed myself. I had the Duck which was seasoned very well. Also, the Havana sangria was great! I will go again.
Food is really delicious and creative. The paella is so good and authentic, and the ribs are huge and juicy! Drinks are great, too. This restaurant never fails. Service is always attentive and welcoming. Atmosphere is very attractive & fun and ambiance is not too loud, so it's easy to converse with friends. I love this restaurant!
The bar area was incredibly loud and although the dining room area was better, it is still pretty noisy. That said, the food and service were good. We were there early, pre-theatre and the wait staff was attentive and offered good recommendations.
Went there last weekend with my small daughter for lunch because on their website says it’s child friendly which is NOT!! As soon as we walked in the noise level was 100, my daughter wanted to leave right away. Then, the food came and we had to pack it to go because the noise was unbearable for a child. We ordered the vaca frita And something for my daughter from children’s menu. The vaca frita was very bland not good at all. Very disappointing when you pay $45 for a meal. Never going back
Good restaurant! The calamari appetizer was definitely the best part of the meal. Super delicious!
Very good place our 2nd time. The food and service spot on and the sangria is worth the trip.
Pleasant enough but not worth the tab. Their focus is on exotic drinks - and I don't drink.
I would recommend it to a friend only if they are in the neighborhood in search of q quick bite, and an exotic cocktail. Bar area looked nice.
Lobster and steak wasn’t very good. Steak was rough and lobster was barely there.
No signs on the street that I could see, it's tucked away in a hotel. As soon as you walk in you will love the vibe and the music playing. Great service, friendly and everyone smiles. They have ceviche dishes that are amazing! Fabulous guacamole and various apps. My friend had the paella and I had a pan roasted bass. The sangria was perfect! Everything was fantastic! Loved the ambiance. Would certainly go back!
I was highly disappointed with the food choices. It was my sons 16th birthday we love Cuban food but this was a fusion w/Asian and it sucked. I will not come back you recommend anyone and for the 700.00 we spent I'm disgusted!
