Calle Ocho's brunch is amazing. The ropa vieja is to die for and their sangrias are amazing!
Pretty nice place. Food is good not great. I had the Sunday brunch bottomless sangrias which they have a variety of individual glasses. They say us at a booth that the seats were stained, torn, and worn. So they could definitely use a facelift on the seating.
We have gone to Cale Ocho for many years and the experience was mostly very positive. After about two years ago we went again and it was really sub par. The noise level was very high and the food quality which was what we really liked went down significantly.
I went for brunch. Loved the food, but the sangrias could probably qualify as virgin drinks. I had 3 and didn’t even feel the slightest buzz. Just different varieties of sugar drinks.
My server JP was amazing. We weren't seated for 5 minutes before he introduced himself. He was very attentive to when our drinks were low and didnt pressure us to make a decision on ordering our food.
Calle Ocho has long been a favorite of mine (been there over 30 times) and has never disappointed. The service is always top, top and the food is so tasty!0
From start to finish, our dining experience was wonderful. My mouth was doing the “happy dance” enjoying marvelous and unexpected flavors. Service was excellent and accommodating.
Made the mistake to go for brunch, of which the only appeal is the unlimited sangrias. The food was middling, and not worth the $30 flat rate. For those that are interested in drinking a lot (at least 3 sangrias), it's a great deal. I can't judge the regular menu, but am wary of trying now. Our waiter indicated that brunches are an ordeal for staff, as most patrons have 3-4 drinks, and some have as many as 10+.
First time I came here it was on an invite from a coworker. The location, inside the Excelsior Hotel, was unexpected. However the minute we were greeted by the kind eyes of the hostess I knew brunch was going to be exceptional. Following my first experience, I decided to treat my family to brunch here for my 2nd visit. Needless to say other than the noise level (some members were over 60) everyone not only appreciated the accommodating decor but also loved the cuisine. The menu wasn't over bearing with overly excessive food options. The menu was spot on with choice options for all types of food lovers. Definitely recommend this place for the food, the sangrias, the ambiance and the solid service.
We have eaten here before and we were very disappointed with the food and service last night. The timing of the courses was not great, the waiter disappeared for long stretches of,time. But most surprisingly, the food was not up,to its usual standards. Very bland and not well prepared. There were 4 of us dining and we all had the same reaction.
I realize that perhaps over Labor Day weekend the chef and head of the house might be on vacation.
I took some folks out to dinner tonight at this restaurant the food and the service for absolutely fantastic. Highly recommended!
Good food to eat, better drinks to drink, best time to have
Very good the waiter was very personable, his suggestions were right on.
Great brunch as always!!
The food and sangria were great!
Cant beat the unlimited sangria brunch- so much to choose from!
Absolute best brunch in all of NYC! Go-to for anyone looking for the best boozy / bottomless brunch in town. The food was amazing and every single one of the sangria options (which are complementary with an entrée) were fantastic. Fun music, great people watching, and excellent service. This is the #1 place I bring my friends to when visiting Manhattan. If you have one place to eat / drink at in NYC, this is it! Great location right by Central Park and the American Museum of Natural History. Another thing to note is they had one of the cleanest, nicest bathrooms I've seen in Manhattan so it definitely made me trust in the hygiene of the place!
A really nice place where upscale mixtures of Cuban food delights. This was free Sangria with the meal night. And the red was not overly sweet, and in a tall glass.
Perfect for my rum basted shrimp appetizer, and my great salmon done to order , medium. With lobster mashed potatoes. The rolls are incredible cool.on the outside and hot inside served with a sweet potato spread. The service was wonderful. This has been there new location and its spacious, with nice booths.
Yummy sangria and delicious food. Service was also wonderful. Always a great brunch experience!
Although this restaurant has been in NYC for many years (now located in the Excelsior Hotel), it was the first time we tried it. We went there for the convenience (near the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park); We will be going back because it was excellent! Great service, wonderful food, perfect location. Kudos for the mojitos, margaritas, Camarones (Puerto Rican rum glazed shrimp, avocado salad in a crispy onion - WOW!), Pulpo a la Planta (grilled octopus - WOW x 2), salmon entree (spice-rubbed salmon, lobster mashed potatoes, cucumber relish, mango chutney _ WOW x 3!) and Pato Chaufa (pan-seared duck breast, Peruvian style stir fried rice, soy-bacon vinaigrette - WOW x 4). Even if you're not seeing a show at the Delacorte, you can walk off the calories in Central Park after.
Had to flag the waiter down a few times to get bread but otherwise good.
Four of us for a birthday dinner. Food and service was exceptional. Great time!
Haven’t been here in a while because I felt rushed the last time we dined here.
This time it was relaxing. We were able to converse and enjoy with friends. We had a lovely and attentive server. The food is always outstandingly delicious! Calle Ocho has won me back.
The food was great. The Ambiance was perfect. The service was great until they over charged us twice. It took me and two managers to fix it. This caused us to be late for our play. It took an extra 20min to straighten it out. Everything else was perfect. I will go back an play very close attention to my bill.
We went to Calle Ocho during Restaurant Week and the prix fixe menu was excellent. The service was prompt and efficient and the sangria was fantastic!
Always a good time here! Be sure to get a reservation in advance, walk-ins are tough
It was an awesome experience!! Our server John was outstanding!
The main courses (Chilean sea bass for one, steak and lobster for the other) and drinks (pisco sours) were excellent, as are the little sweet cheese rolls and bean dip they serve with every meal. But we were disappointed in the ceviches this time—both were too salty and too sauced. We’ve eaten here often before, and this was the first time this had happened. But ceviches should be fresh and light, and this time they weren’t.
Good night. Fun place.
Food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Price and portions were on point and well served. One entree is good enogh to share for three. Bottomless Sangrias for happy hour were delish!!
Been wanting to try this place for a while and finally came here for restaurant week. So glad we did. The restaurant has a great feel to it, friendly staff, and delicious food! Also, unique cocktail menu. I had a spin off of something similar to a spicy margarita and would go back to this place just to have that drink again! Highly recommend Calle Ocho!
We were inspired to go to this restaurant because this restaurant in conjunction with GROUPON offered a fifty percent off coupon under Groupon's select+ program. The deal on Groupon site showed only a 50% off deal. I had used the select+ before where the restaurant offered 25% and received that off a $200.00+ bill so I had no compunctions about using it for this dinner and expected 50%. It seems that Groupon then changed same to be a discount of only a maximum of $10.00 which was absurd as there was nothing on the menu where one could spend an amount that would serve a reasonable 50% discount. When I found out and asked the manager for the $52.00 fifty percent discount which would be applicable to my expected and claimed discount, he smirked and said something inane. I hate to be scammed, so I emailed Groupon who answered with many lies. I have never had this experience and the restaurant clearly knew it was a bait and switch and they are disgusting.
Fun place for brunch with great value on drinks. The sangria options are very strong, be warned!
The food was delicious and came out fast. We had a very nice romantic booth. Our waitress Cindia was knowledgeable, friendly and very attentive. It was a wonderful experience. Thank you!
Great meal. Great service. Really enjoyed every aspect of dinner.
Staff service was really on top of their game. Big portions of food, so be prepared to have some leftovers. Ambiance was "tipico" spanish cuisine. Tried "Hatuey" (Cuban-Ale Inspired Beer).
As always the staff at Calle Ocho is in point. Always there to assist. Food was delish. We always stop by when in NYC. ¡Hasta pronto!
The only thing is that they should expand the menu a little bit more.
Brunch was great. The food was really good and the unlimited sangrias were very good as well. Def a place I would recommend!
