With this in mind, make sure to speak to one of our team on-site when booking to ensure you get an area on your preferred floor.
Under 18s are welcome in the venue up until 7pm.
Great food and atmosphere. Service a little slow but very friendly. A great time had as always!
Great ribs, love the music, fine service, good drinks all at a reasonable price. Just what I wanted
Went on a Sunday night, with no clue what to expect. We were taken upstairs where there were bands playing 3 songs each and rotating, providing a vibrant, dynamic atmosphere. The food came swiftly and was amazing! (They ran out of prawns though which was heartbreaking). Overall a 5⭐️ Night!
Very good American food. Portions not huge but when having a mix there is enough. Good selection of American beers. Lack of spoons as in they don't have any? made pudding interesting. The decor may be a bit industrial for some but was in keeping with the theme. Enjoyed it immensely and will definitely visit again👍😎
Good atmosphere and food. The service wasn't great, but it was a busy Friday night. Overall pretty good
I had been looking forward to visiting from Huddersfield for some time and we were also celebrating a birthday. Unfortunately our experience wasn't great. Initially we had to wait for our table to be ready when we arrived and after eventually ordering we were told half an hour later that there were no more beef ribs left bearing in mind we weren't dining late and there were only 3 sorts of ribs available was a little disappointing especially when this is a rib joint. We managed to decide on something else but I found the pork ribs to be quite tough when they came. Eaten in few of these types of places in my time and it wasn't the greatest experience in comparison. Was just glad we had 50% off vouchers.
Good and attentive service & the food was delicious but I think our dining experience was ruined by the fact that it was two days before Christmas and the place was filled of drunken large groups of men which was quite intimidating when we were just looking for a bite to eat after shopping. Overall we felt quite uncomfortable and felt that we had to rush our food and leave. Not sure I'd return again.
can't fault the food and cocktails here!
Absolutely love coming back to Cane & Grain time and time again as you just can't go wrong.
Great place, went primarily for the cocktails however the food is excellent! If you're eating go to the first floor :)
The food was fantastic as always , the chef was more than accommodating with our order
Good all round. Friendly staff. Tasty, value for money food
Tried to call to let them we were running late but no one answered and when we got there our table was given away. I would have appreciated someone answering the phone to let me know they couldn't hold on to the table, which I would have understood
Cocktails were cracking. Had to wait for an hour for food and half of it came up cold. Still really nice food. Staff were very helpful and looked after us.
Food was good when it arrived, but unfortunately the service was quite poor. Starters came with first 6 main meals, then had to wait 15 minutes before the last 2 arrived at the table.
Waiter tried his upmost to rectify the issue but the damage was done I'm afraid.
So dark we couldn't see the menu properly, no draft beer in the dining room. However the food was excellent and very tasty. Service was good but there were only six other people in so not sure what it would be like if its was busy. Few things I'm concerned with - the lighting is so low its impossible to see the menu's properly. The refusal to serve draft beer because the bar and the dining room are separate businesses is clearly nonsense and frustrating as it smacks as forcing people to buy higher priced bottles. Also when we arrived we were seated right outside the kitchen on a high table with stools. We asked to moved and were told no as it was busy there were only 6 people in the restaurant when we arrived and only 10 when we left.
Having said all that the food came quickly and was delicious and for Manchester relatively cheap. Would I go again probably not but that is nothing to do with the food.
Style over substance, great concept and great atmosphere but the ribs were awful. If you are going to be a rib joint you can't serve chewy ribs, and the service was so slow couldn't get a beer to wash them down. Real shame as the place has a great vibe!
Fantastic food, great beers and cocktails. Great music and funky as hell place. The is good value but the drinks are very expensive, but it is the quarter so what do you expect?
Good food served from a fairly limited menu of ribs, burgers plus some veggie options & salads. The place is vibrant though the ground floor is really loud and probably not the place to eat a meal and chat with friends. On the first floor things are much quieter but still lively and cocktails are dispensed at a quick rate. Draft beers only available on ground floor though and the bottled beers upstairs are limited in range. Would definitely go again but I'll choose the first floor
Great atmosphere but food took a while to arrive and everything was just a little too spicy.
I would come again but perhaps just for drinks next time.
Delicious ribs with a variety of unique sauces.
The new menu is so much better. Buffalo wings are so good! My partner and I both ordered double cheeseburgers, they tasted lovely but were very pink.
Received incorrect starters and then the ribs we're charcoaled, very disappointing
Good service and good food and portion size. Very nice inside ambience of restaurant, very creative.
Really nice place to eat and drink, great relaxing atmosphere, nice staff, tasty menu and food at a reasonable price, really enjoyed our visit only negative was that we mostly came to go to the hidden bar however we came in the afternoon on a weekday and it was apparently closed which we weren't aware of, bit disappointing but a reason for another visit haha!
The waitress was brilliant and good for a laugh. Honestly the best meal Iv had in Manchester so far. The Dino rib was incredible.
Ordered some of the smaller plates as starters:
Hot as F**k Wings - these were pretty mild. Relatively tasty though
Bacon wrapped Jalepenos - Not much flavour in these at all
Spam fries - something different, bit plain on their own, ordered some sauce to dip which made them nicer, surprised they don't come with a dip
Then I had the beef ribs which were HUGE. Although they were caked in a very strong flavoured seasoning so could barely taste the ribs. I was expecting them to have a sauce all over and to be quite juicy, unfortunately the seasoning overpowered everything. The fries were good! The sauce was supposed to be bourbon but it wasn't as rich and smokey as some others I've had over the years.
We had a 50% off voucher so at £20 for 2 mains and a few little bites you can't complain. I wouldn't go back at full price however
Nice place, nice food, nice staff.
The ribs and burger were fantastic, don't get me wrong, however the Mac & cheese and cheesy chips were my worst nightmare and just tasted like chemicals by my standard. My girlfriend loved them. The drinks were OK, but over priced, the service was also OK.
Overall, it was a nice meal, but we won't be returning.
You will never have meat so tender in all your life. The meat feast was incredible, definitely for 5 rather than 4 though.
Her attitude towards deaf people is extremely beautiful attitude. We came for second time because of her. We will book again soon.
Service was excellent and the staff couldn't be more attentive
Great menu - probably not a good choice for vegetarians - and an excellent drinks menu
Amazing value for money for the quality of food
The first floor dining area is lovely with a great atmosphere but my first impression was clouded by the very busy, very loud downstairs bar. Don't let that put you off.
They don't offer desserts but the mains are excellent
We keep coming back because we can't get enough! The staff are brilliant, very helpful and friendly. The food is great, always high quality and always perfect.
Great food with a lively atmosphere. A must go to restaurant when in Manchester. Excellent service from Melissa
Had a fantastic goats cheese and beetroot salad with a side of macaroni which came in a metal camping mug (quirky) also had a side of coleslaw which had a lovely smokey taste.
I would definitely use this restaurant again. It had a cool, buzzy vibe and suitable for all ages. I would recommend when booking to ask if you can eat upstairs as it has a more relaxing feel.
My kids would live off ribs given half a chance! So I figured where better to take them and my wife for something a bit different.
It's in a far from salubrious area of Manchester, but once you negotiate the one-way system, parking nearby is far easier than many places - which is a plus.
Walking in I thought "Oh my god!" Even "only" being early 40's I felt I was about 20 years too late - though my teenage kids for once thought I was "cool" - for picking somewhere with walls covered in skateboarders and music I barely understood!
However, overcoming that initial shock I was thoroughly bowled over. The ribs are AWESOME. We all picked something different and then swapped and shared without worrying someone would look down there nose at such behavior - just how ribs should be! The service was excellent and, after the initial shock, it was a truly enjoyable family meal.
Food tip - the short ribs are unbelievably good.
Special tip - THE most unusual bathroom decor ever - on the ceiling. you'll know when you go....
In short, if you're wanting somewhere "posh" - with candles on the table, piano music in the background, and an instruction book for the cutlery, go somewhere else.
But if you want a cracking plateful of quality ribs, feel like you don't really have grey hair and wrinkles, and your kids/partner to think you're not such a dinosaur then it's a must!
Only one down side - As Manchester City Council's licencing committee clearly employ the same swivel-eyed loonies that frequent many councils, despite most restaurant licences allowing under 18's until 9pm, you have to be out (not just seated - done, paid and back out the door) by 7pm if you have someone under 18 with you. On Sundays the upstairs dining area (where it's probably a bit quieter - I don't know) is shut until 6, so you have to sit downstairs in the bar to ensure you have enough time to choose, order, and enjoy the food.
If you like meat, then you need to try the ribs in this place.
Great place, with cool style and quirky features to give you plenty to look at and soak up throughout your meal. Food was fantastic, its pretty straight forward fare, but done really well, and heck if that full rack wasn't the biggest single piece of food I have ever had set before me! On top of all this, the service was friendly and unhurried, and all round great. Highly recommend.
Only complaint is that twice we ordered Southern Comfort and diet coke and was bought out Jack Daniels. The second time we remarked on this and was told they had run out of Southern Comfort.
We ate upstairs and had a very good (and very filling) meal. Service was excellent And food was good. Downstairs is a noisy bar but the first floor restaurant was quite pleasent. Smaller than i expected but still very good. It gets budy though so book ahead as said, it isnt a huge place.
Waitresses were very unwelcoming and moody, no sign of a smile. Had to ask for bill three times. Totally miserable.
Delicious, tender ribs, fantastic variety of marinades, the most amazingly good flavours in the truffle cheese fries and super cocktails, all at reasonable prices. The downstairs bar got busy and a bit noisy during our meal, but it only added to the atmosphere. The staff were very helpful, friendly and knowledgable . After our good they found a spot near the bar on the first floor for us. A more chilled atmosphere and a different cocktail list, really fab choices. Dinner and several cocktails came to £70! Much less than we would have paid elsewhere. It was a special occasion so was willing to have a few extras.
