Caravan Exmouth Market
Great food and good value prices in a nice area of London. Really handy for Sadler's Wells theatre pre dinner
Great fresh flavours in the dishes with some classics as well as new recipes. All was served quickly and by friendly staff.
Overall a great experience. Eggs on avo tasted great but the sourdough was a bit under toasted/tough to cut
Main course was delicious the nicest main course I have had in ages - I booked again immediately !!!! 😀
Love this place! Delicious, creative cuisine served by friendly waiters. I loved some of the dishes so much, I bought the cookbook.
Paid £20 for cod (!) and it was the most boring dish I ever had. Cod with mushrooms that was still sitting in dirty water that the mushrooms had been cooked in. COD was fine in itself but nothing special and to charge £20 seemed insane. Definitely wouldn’t recommend. My friend had the cod too and hers was the same. Juice was nice but they stopped making blended juices at 4pm for some reason.
I had one of their bowls, it was really delicious but the portion was quite small.
Very nice food and helpful staff in terms of allergies.
First time trying this location - big fan of other locations. Although ambiance, venue and service are great, food missed the mark. Food was generally underwhelming, and some dishes had ingredients that did not compliment eachother. Would go back for cocktails and drinks, but would skip out on eating with so many other options on the strip.
Friday 9.20pm. The food - especially the halloumi and mushroom bowl and the cauliflower ‘small plate’ - was exceptional. The ‘cheesecake’ dessert - despite the absence of a cake base - was delicious. Food arrived promptly, but frequency of service dropped as the time passed. Not giving 5 stars because loud music and loud conversations of two parties bouncing off the polished concrete floors reduced our ability to hear each other (over a small table for 2) steadily to next to nothing. The food maybe looked good but it’s far too dark to see it. The place tried to cater both to cocktail parties and to diners. Got to have a look at the food in normal light on the pass in the basement, was n the way to the loos - it did look very nice under normal lighting.
Friendly staff and positioned in a nice spot alone exmouth market. We did have to wait quite some time for our drinks, arriving after our food came out, even though we ordered this almost as soon as we arrived.
Great food as always. Was disappointed however, to be told here on OpenTable that our preferred time was unavailable when the restaurant was, in fact, totally deserted.
I felt compelled to write this review - a near first for me - because of just how awful Caravan's food was. My boyfriend and I wanted a restaurant for a Saturday night date night with ambience and charm. From the exterior, Caravan seemed a fit and we felt fortunate to find a table. While the ambience didn't disappoint too much - the music and general 'vibe' were solid - the food was abysmal. The fries were frozen inside. The cauliflower was frozen outside. And the lamb meat balls tasted so strange we would have preferred if they had been frozen. Then they may have numbed the effect of the other two plates. The croquettes were passable, but likely pale in comparison to Waitrose' finest frozen assortment. Drinks - margaritas - went down okay, but unfortunately we couldn't gulp them fast enough to wash down the food - because getting a waiter's attention was as difficult has a taxi in a snow storm. All in all, a real bust, with a nice exterior.
Poached eggs were cold. Sent back, received 2 more cold poached eggs. Awful. Wanted to send back again although was with client and didn't want to make a fuss. Seriously bad. Like they'd been in a fridge.
The food and the service was good but the space was too noisy. The value for money is also not the best. We’ve been to better restaurants with better ambience for more value.
Good diner experience. All plates were very nice and tasty with real research in the combination.
The corn bread is a very nice surprise. Don't underestimate it. And so are the desserts. The ginger cake and the chocolate delice don't disappoint. I always judge the quality of a cuisine by the dessert and Caravan ticks the mark.
The service however could just slightly be improved (we received dishes even before we had our drinks and waited a while to order the dessert and pay the bill)
Really tasty and great atmosphere on a busy, sunny evening. Great service, pretty loud!
Food is always excellent, attentive but not over-attentive service, great atmosphere. More antipodean wines on the list would make it perfect.
Awesome and very creative
Food is amazing but service/price isn't the best possible
Four of us went for dinner on a Friday night. All the food was sooooo tasty and the atmosphere was great. Service was efficient and friendly enough I guess.
Smaller than the Kings Cross one but food equally good. Would recommend.
Amazing food! GET THE BURRATA YOU WILL BE SO GLAD YOU DID!!!!
Caravan is one of my fav places to meet friendsor go on a first date :)
Great space and lovely ambience. Really enjoyed the food and service. Would definitely go again.
I had the Caravan fry up which was excellent. Good service in a relaxed environment. Excellent for brunch.
Every time I go to this Caravan I remember why I have not been for a while. The place is just to noisy and its almost impossible to have any form of conversation.
Besides that the food is always amazing but it would be great if they were to do some sonic insulation work.
Excellent creative food in small sharing plate format. Particular favourite was braised oxtail on polenta mash. Only let down was wine list which was too focused on old world wines.
Great coffee, espresso martinis, ambience and service. Top date place
Too loud to hold a conversation without shouting across the table.
Disappointed by the lamb ribs, which was served as fat on bone without any meat and luke warm, and the corn bread which had lovely flavours but was cold.
Service was great and dealt with the situation well
Everything was delicious. We shared lots of small plates - seasoned well and attentive staff.
Lovely food. Good place to meet. Tasty food suitable for vegetarians.
Food was great, service a bit slow when it got busy, but a lovely buzz about the place.
Great food and great service. I would highly recommend Caravan to any of my friends
Really lovely atmosphere, lovely staff and lots of delicious small plates with interesting ingredients, lots of vegetarian options. Really good value too, our bill came to about £30 each which included small plates, bread, wine and dessert and we were full. The jalapeño cornbread is the best thing ever! We went on 23 Dec and they had run out of a lot of dishes - but think that just proves everything is brought in fresh and actually had the effect of pushing us to order guns we wouldn’t normally have tried. Will definitely be going back - and attempting to recreate some of the dishes at home in the meantime.
A group of 5 of us ate here on a Friday evening before going to watch the ballet at Sadlers Wells. It's a lovely atmosphere and fantastic food but service was pretty shoddy. It took us a very long time to get anyone's attention to order. We were limited on time so all chose items off the large plates section of the menu with a couple of the smaller plates alongside. Two of the party ordered a carafe of white wine, one ordered a beer and then two of us wanted a dry rose so asked the waitress to recommend which was dryer. She had no clue and seemed to be making up her answers on the spot so we asked for a taste of two before deciding. This took what felt like a very long time and then when we had decided between the two she couldn't remember which was which! Eventually it was worked out and a carafe of rose was delivered to the table but no other drinks. We asked about the white and the beer and the waiter went away to find them. He came back a few minutes later to say they had no carafes left! The restaurant wasn't particularly busy at this time so we were confused by this and suggested that they use a water jug instead to which he looked very confused and said he'd go and see if he could. Eventually the white appeared in a large water jug but still no beer but the waiter had disappeared before we could even ask. Managed to get another waiters attention who eventually delivered the beer. The food came quickly, it was all very delicious and I would definitely recommend the duck confit, the lamb meatballs, the burrata and the chorizo and sweet potato croquettes. I would recommend Caravan for the food, but when you add service charge on to a bill you expect good service and the shoddy service we received really affected our experience.
Unfortunately the restaurant called 3hours before to say they had a problem with the electrics and so no hot food available! We were booked in the Exmouth market venue. They did offer to transfer us to the City venue, so all was okay - but it was a much more corporate feel.
Also they advertise a fantastic Festive Feast platter - but this is only for groups or 8+ and needs to be ordered 24hrs in advance. This is not clear on their website.
Otherwise great meal!
Good attempts to spice up some traditional british dishes. Friendly staff. Noisy (as are most places in London)
Lovely atmosphere, good service but very very disappointing food. I ordered Secreto Iberico and the dish was cold and extremely spicy. The cheese board wasn't great either(poor quality of the cheese)...
I wouldn't recommend it for a drink/cocktail but definitely not for food.
I like Caravan and the food is excellent. However, the portion sizes are unpredictable and you never know whether you will leave hungry. The staff are lovely and all very trendy - but not particularly adept at being in the service industry. Our hate glasses were filled up at 5 minute intervals but we had to ask for everything else. Maybe put down the water jug and actually get on with serving people things they are actually paying for! That said, the food is great and if the service was a bit better and the portion sizes a little more generous it could be really excellent.
Amazing food and wine. Oxtail, quinoa and croquettes are musts. Next time I wouldn't share the quinoa as it was too good and the perfect side more than a starter. The chocolate dessert was really good too.
