Absolutely excellent food. Superb in fact.
The only problem was that the area we were seated in near the front window was extremely cold.
Even though there were many electric heaters dotted around.
My partner and I enjoyed our meal at Cau but overall we weren't awed by the experience. We felt that the waiters/waitresses weren't very attentive and the staff didn't look very happy being there! The steak was good, not amazing and we thought the food was good value for money.
Enjoyed our meal- lovely food, good portions, attentive service. Only downside is the loos are up 6 flights of stairs!
Great steak, nice sauce and the thick cut chips are gorgeous. Don't skip dessert ;)
Never been a fan of options service charges
Always worth it! Steak is just sublime, onion rings are the best I've ever tasted in light tempura batter and the causlaw don't even get me started, between that and the thick cut chips we all rolled out of there very happy!
The waiter couldn’t be bothered, only realised a service charge was added when I got home, would not have tipped if I knew
They were entirely full, presumably for Mother's Day, so those who arrived needed to wait until their table was free. For us that was 15-20 minutes, which didn't really suit my Mum who can't really sit on the stools and otherwise uses a stick.
It was at least another hour from there before we received our food, which was not as good as we had experienced on a previous visit.
All told we were there for about three hours to have 2 courses and two drinks, hence slower than I prefer.
Went with my wife and son for a Mothers Day treat. It was very busy but the service and food were still fine. We all enjoyed all the courses and the Malbec wine was excellent. My wife has been before and it was great on a weekday evening too.
I wasn't very impressed with the food. The steak was extremely fatty and could not be eaten. I had a bottle of water and there was something like glass floating in the water.
Was recommended to visit Cau so was disappointed when we got there because it was so cold, other diners were eating in there coats. i did mention it to the waiter who indicated that the A/C was faulty. however i believe this should have been recognised prior to us eating! The food was good and the service was professional. however it was difficult to enjoy due to the uncomfortable temperatures. What should have been an evening entertainment, resulted in us leaving early to find somewhere more comfortable.
Birthday Sunday dinner for my brother. Great meal. Just would have liked some green veg as standard rather than extra
Kitchen seemed to over rely on microwave oven. The meat was disappointing
When the food came it was as good as it always is. Flavoursome, good portions, nice ambience. However, nearly spoiled by a bizarre waiter with very different service techniques.
Gorgeous steak and great service - can’t wait to visit again
Came to CAU for a late valentines meal, I really enjoyed this place and just enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was great!
We've walked past the restaurant a couple of times in the past and said we must go in there and we finally did last Saturday - and we weren't disappointed at all. Good hearty food and drinks and mesmerized by watching the chefs prepare the food. Good anniversary experience.
I have been eating at cau bristol for the last few years. Almost always the food was exceptional and when it was less exceptionally cooked I had been provided with the opportunity to change my initial order or plate has been made it again.
Welcoming staff. Pleasant and comfortable atmosphere. Deff would recommend and absolutely be coming back.
The food was amazing I would recommend having the thick/chunky chips they are like roast potatoes
Expensive but great good
Best steak had in a long time
Nice experience xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I had an amazing experience at CAU my partner and I went for valentines date and we throurogly enjoyed it. Amazing food, my steak was perfect. The wine was great, good friendly service and we had great seats, just overal we had a great time.
Fantastic evening out for Valentine's Day with my husband. Had the Wednesday night £15 deal with additional free prosecco each which was gorgeous and excellent value. Food great, wine great and staff great. Will keep going back!
We went in early evening for a family meal. The service was atrocious. We couldn’t get a second round of drinks. Had to go and ask the greeter to help get sauces because our waiter was nowhere to be found. The steaks were really tough. The child’s meal actually too tough for her to eat. I don’t know why it was so bad on this occasion we’ve had other better meals there but won’t be going back.
Upon arrival we were greeted straight away and had the option to choose where we wanted to sit. Staff were very attentive and were very understanding of the fact we were 15minutes late due to bristiol traffic! The £15 each deal was still valid on Valentine's and we even got a free glass of prosecco each. Very good value for money. The steak was cooked perfectly and the portions were just right.
Wonderful food, the steak was cooked perfectly, and the service was great
As always, the food was great (coffee too). Considering the quality of the meat, prices aren't too bad; however, it would be lovely to see better exhaust fans installed.
Steak was cooked to perfection and a wonderful cut. Sides were good servings and menu had a great selection. Service was magic, chap who was our waiter was great all round. Only gripe was small selection of beers and wine £10 a glass. That aside would definitely return.
Been here twice for dinner. Amazing food. Friendly staff. Would recommend to family & friends.
We totally enjoyed our food and the staff were friendly and helpful
Amazing steak, probably the best in Bristol. Would definitely recommend if you haven't tried it yet
Very good food, probably the best steak I've eaten (and I've eaten a lot!) Staff very friendly, very efficient and the flavours were sensational!
Visited during a weekend stay in Bristol and met my children who both live fairly close to the restaurant.
The decor is modern and trendy but the food was very well prepared, the service friendly and efficient and the ambience good.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would have no hesitation in recommending.
Would suggest making a reservation before hand especially during the weekend as this is a popular venue
We have been firm loyal customers of Cau at various locations, so we're very excited to come here for a birthday. The food was delicious, but unfortunately the chef was suffering from the stereotypical 'I cannot cook steak more than medium rare'. I specifically asked for a steak which would suit well done- which is just my preference. And it came bloody. The waiter was fantastic and got it re-fired. And the food was unquestionably delicious when it later came back. Unfortunately my other half orderered his steak medium and it was somewhat purple in the middle. Not wanting to cause another issue he didn't want to call the waiter back again.
A lovely restaurant, and gorgeous food. But disappointing in not actually cooking what was requested on order, since it did detract from our initial excitement at eating at this usually-fantastic restaurant.
Too expensive for not much food. Service good and food tasted good but could go elsewhere for better price
Lovely relaxed evening for my son’s 18th.
Great food and lovely service.
Though a traditional beef restaurant so other great alternatives so don't let it put you off if you don't eat beef like me.
That said, I had the chicken and my mate had a sirloin - both were cooked superbly.
Service was super quick too.
Recommended for a good meaty meal without paying through the roof.
The first table we were given was in a freezing draft from the front door. The overworked staff seemed unaware, or just grateful to cool down.
The food was OK (particularly the steak) but portions small.
Waiter rude and too busy chatting with another table (of what appeared to be personal friends) to even get our bill.
There are plenty of other steak restaurants in Bristol that I would rather go to.
Unlikely to go back.
After coming to the restaurant early and having some drinks first we were then sat on a table right by the door. We waited for 30 minutes for the waiter to actually come and see us to take our order. However we then became fed up and decided to leave as nobody actually spoke to us after sitting at the table.
Pieter our waiter was very helpful, service was good
